Re: Best away performance of the season vote
Despite only scoring the one goal I've gone for Preston.
We created 15 odd chances that night and really should have stuffed them. Brentford first half was the best 45 minutes by a long way but we only sustained it for half the game that night.
Isn't brilliant to have so many to choose from?

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
Brentford is the obvious one but the four second half goals at MK Dons were sensational.

I went for Brentford but was so tempted to go for the MK game - best birthday I've had in years.Royboyclaret wrote:Brentford is the obvious one but the four second half goals at MK Dons were sensational.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
McDons were made to look like amateurs in the second half but I didn't think we actually played well at all in the first.
What a result though and another marvellous evening of football we were treated to.
I'll never forget the moment when Vokes turned into Lionel Messi for a minute.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
Brentford first half was this seasons best performance, in my opinion of course, but the win at Preston takes my vote, a really important 3 points in a "must win" situation.
As Rowls says, we created many chances in a game that we dominated, looked far too strong for them and never looked in trouble.
The mere fact that I live in Preston has had no influence, at all, in my thoughts.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
I went for Fulham. Brentford we played really well, but were always in control. The comeback against Fulham having conceded the lead clinched it. The never say die spirit never showed more.
Re: Best away performance of the season vote
Got to be MK, went to that and Brentford and atmosphere at Griffin Park was pretty good v MK it was dire!
MK because biggest away win in a million years and it was my birthday too!

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
Brentford was easiest on the eye for the first half but for me Preston was the best all round performance.
To go there, play the way we did and win under extreme pressure was fantastic.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
I voted for Brentford as the game was won by half time. Brentford came back at us, but that was partly down to us knowing the game was won. However, I can understand why people have voted for Preston.

I went for Brentford but if the MK Dons game had been screened on Sky too I'm sure it would have got a few more votes

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
I went Preston due to the pressure of a Lancashire derby against a team with nothing to play for who had beaten us earlier in the season.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
Charlton was by far the best away performance of the season and to do it to win the title was special.
Maybe people haven't voted for it because of the opposition but they played a lot better than Preston and Brentford first half.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
Middlesbrough second half FA cup I think that game set the tone (Middlesbrough had hardly conceded a goal at home let a lone two)
Brentford first half for obvious reasons (brentford were up there at the time and playing well we simply gave them no answer to that first half performance)
But my vote is Preston we played very well with a must win game and all the pressure that came into this match and Deep Dale is not a particularly kind place to get anything from but we bossed it from start to finish and needed to

That's right.
It should have been 4-0 by half time but it wasn't, and that is probably the reason it doesn't have more votes.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
the only things missing from the preston game were the extra goals we deserved.
excellent as brentford was, preston was the consummate away performance, controlled from start to finish; and to produce it at that stage of the season against a side who are no mugs was a real measure of how good a team we had. that was the game that won us the championship.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
I went for Fulham. Having gone a goal down to come back in such emphatic fashion sent a clear message to our rivals at the top that we were there to stay. It was the moment I really thought we would go up.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
As a London based Claret I had the pleasure in seeing five of those live (inc B'Ham), but those first 45 mins at Brentford were outstanding - especially building on the game three days earlier at MK. I can hardly recall the ball even being down our end first half - does anyone know how many times Heaton touched it? Yes we eased up, but the game was won. The latter games at Preston and St Andrews were certainly more pressured, but we were a well-oiled winning machine at Griffin Park.

Preston away. You could see every Brighton and 'Boro fan going "oh ****, look at how good this lot are when it really, really counts"
Re: Best away performance of the season vote
I picked from the 4 away games I attended. Brentford edged it over MK.

Do you know, that's absolutely bang on - it was a big game that night and we'd have been under immense pressure had we not won it. Thought we were superb in the first half.
Re: Best away performance of the season vote
In terms of outright performance, I've gone for Brentford. Some of the stuff (well actually most) we played particularly in the first half was sensational. Could have voted for other games too though - a sign of how well we've performed throughout the majority of the season.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
The first half at Brentford was like that first half against Forest a couple of years ago, but with better goals. That's enough to win it for me.
Huddersfield was the classic ruthless, efficient away performance from a side on its way up, I bet Dyche enjoyed that one.

Aye, I voted Huddersfield.
Exactly the right performance at the right time. Nailed it dead.

Correct Huddersfield for me too.
I believed after that game.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
Not on the "list" but for me - Brighton.
Not one of our best performances (I was there) but sheer bloody mindlessness and the determination to not give in!
After that match I needed no further proof that we would succeed.

Re: Best away performance of the season vote
Just voted for Preston.
Brentford was more enjoyable as Burnley were out of sight at half time and those first 45 minutes were superb.
But Preston was the biggest banana skin on the run-in - a local derby and they would have loved to derail Burnley's promotion hopes. The team handled it superbly and if the winning margin had been bigger as they deserved that game would have won this poll.
