They play the same system as last season whereas Wells would be switching to a completely different one coming back to us. And he hasn’t had all summer to prepare for it.

Re: Nahki Wells
Wells and Vydra both similar kind of players, and both couldn't get a game.
Do you think it's as simple as Dyche doesn't believe smaller strikers can fit into his system? Doubt he would buy them knowing this, which means maybe our style of play hasn't changed as much as he might have liked it to.

Re: Nahki Wells
There were definite signs of evolution with Defour in the team and one or both of Wells and Vydra could possibly have been effective with that quality of service from central midfield areas.blake's wand wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 8:56 pmWells and Vydra both similar kind of players, and both couldn't get a game.

As it is, without that quality and no sign of a similarly gifted replacement we are almost entirely reliant on crosses/set-plays, so for as long as that situation continues our strikers will need to be tall and powerful enough for the war of attrition in the air.

Re: Nahki Wells
The words I quoted came from the video, straight from the horses mouth so to speak so no misrepresentation on my part, which you implied. He might possibly not be referencing SD but the BBC show a picture of Crouch in a BFC shirt to perhaps suggest the link.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 7:47 pmNot sure why you'd have problem with the word misrepresented. It turns out it's very apposite here since the BBC video that you watched (and linked) is a misrepresentation of the BBC (written) article on the same page that gives a fuller account of what Crouch said and thinks about Dyche.
In the fuller account he is very complimentary about Dyche.
I agree, the sentiments that was written do seem at odds with what he said on the video. A confused chappy but nonetheless, not great press which was my point.

Re: Nahki Wells
No I didn't - in fact I did exactly the opposite. I didn't in any way imply that you had misrepresented what he said. (It's not even ambiguous).
Here:
The latter was the case, since the BBC video totally misrepresented what Crouch said by only including the first part of the interview in the video.“Did you read the article or has someone misrepresented it to you?”
It's a bit of an odd interview, but if we take it at face value, he was extremely complimentary abut Dyche.
Had a couple of us not drawn to your attention the full interview (in the text) then you would have been entirely misled by the BBC video - not your fault.

Re: Nahki Wells
Maybe you should have listened to it all because your interpretation is miles away from what he said.lakesider wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 12:36 pmOff topic in terms of the player but another worrying sign, anyone see the Peter Crouch Podcast? In it he reckoned he had another one maybe two years in him but felt degraded at his last club which was enough for him to retire, complaining he never got the opportunity to start a game yet he had 90 mins in him. Felt like he had been treated like a 'head on a stick' to be thrown on for the last twenty in the vain hope he might head something in. Obviously I recognise it's just his opinion and the manager doesn't have the opportunity to respond to his claims but a bad reflection on BFC. Add to that, having Liverpool fans commenting on the Ben tackle yesterday being just like Gomez incident, again opinions but it's not the same press we used to get as 'plucky little Burnley'. Our media Manager appearing very defensive at the moment also. Feeling the same vibe most of you seem to be feeling which is there's something not quite right going on but difficult to put your finger on it.
Re: Nahki Wells
Crouch: In dreamland. From the little I saw of him there didn't look to be any running in his knees. No way he could have done 90 mins at PL level let alone 2 more full seasons.
Wells: Doing a good job,(especially today ) might need to hang on to him.
Both of the above comments are just my opinion of course.

Re: Nahki Wells
If we are a striker down and we don’t bring in another one surely we’d have to recall him?
Re: Nahki Wells
It’s a shame we didn’t give Wells a chance instead of spunking a load of cash on daddy long legs’ wages.
Still, Nahki has never been to a Kasabian concert with Dyche unlike Crouch, so that explains that.

Therefore, I don't think we can.
Re: Nahki Wells
Sd has said there is always a recall clause, on all season loans. Protection for all parties.
Re: Nahki Wells
The only issue I have with him returning is that from what I've seen of QPR they play a completely different style to us and Wells suffers with long ball tactics.

Believe Dyche said the option is there.
We are (as we’d expect 9 times out of 10) in a relegation battle. If we are striker down on what we planned I can’t see the benefit of having a striker out at another club.

Re: Nahki Wells
Wells is a good player in the Championship. So are Juke and Bamford, Vydra also.
We play in the Premier League if any of them had been any good they would either still be at Burnley or playing regularly in the Premier league. Andre Gray has been mentioned elsewhere as well.
All good players but just not good enough for the Premier League.

Haven’t read the full thread but I thought Wells looked ok in the brief cameos I saw. More so than Vydra really. I may have missed any poor showing if away. Perhaps he should have had more of a chance.

I'd love nothing more than a striker to come in and fire the goals that keep us up.
Sadly, and with the best will in the world, I don't believe that the solution is Nahki Wells!
Hardly a controversial view.

Re: Nahki Wells
Wells is okay at Championship level but he just hasn't shown anything to suggest he is good enough to step up.
Re: Nahki Wells
He is rubbish, that’s why. I reckon people on here could score the odd goal for QPR with their style of play and the quality of Eberechi Eze behind them. It’s non-stop chance creation.
Re: Nahki Wells
For what it’s worth, Vydra isn’t adjudged to be good enough, and he’d have many many more in that QPR team than Wells does right now. Time to write that signing off for good.

Re: Nahki Wells
Flawed logic ha, ha. The perennial of every football fan.
Dyche did sign them all. Perhaps he thought they would be good enough, they were scouted watched and analysed before they signed. Then watched, trained and analysed on a daily basis. Sometimes signings work sometimes they don’t. Those didn’t, plenty of others have.
That’s football.

The fact is, for how good Dyche has been for us, his purchasing of strikers has been fairly suspect.

It’s been hit and miss, as are all manager’s signings but not exactly suspect. He signed Gray who finished the season the Championship’s Player of the Year and top scorer. He also signed Wood who has had a good return in his time with us.

Re: Nahki Wells
I don’t think anyone’s suggesting throwing Wells in but we seem to want a squad with four strikers, currently we have three.
We don’t appear to be able/want to sign another so perhaps one we already own could fill the gap.
I realise we don’t tend to just throw strikers on but who knows with injuries.

Re: Nahki Wells
I don’t think Wells was ever going to be good enough and it’s turned out he was a horrendous signing and spectacular waste of resources
BUT
would he really have been much worse than Barnes has been over the last 2 months?
I actually really like the way he’s been happy to drop a division and join a pretty average QPR side just to play games. The one biggest gripe for me though is we have spent £6-10M on this guy and not even given him a chance? Like what was the point? At least give him a run in the side and let’s see why we targeted him maybe he would do well for us.
I said in the summer I’d have been quite happy with Wells staying here to see what he’s got to offer. At least with Jutkiewicz and Sordell they had game time for us all to see they were sh**e, Vydra and Wells haven’t even had that.
With Barnes now out, I hope we have a recall option on the loan and bring him back to give him a chance.

How long is Barnes expected to be out Hernia is not a big deal these days but 3-4 weeks as a guess
