How to measure 10 yards

Post by Ashingtonclaret46 » Thu Jan 02, 2020 5:48 pm

Sebastian Stockbridge was the referee at Doncaster v Oxford yesterday --he certainly didn't endear himself to the Oxford contingent!

There are some things that a referee should be able to do with no problems whatsoever - that's either appalling or he's about 8ft tall with a long stride.

Perfectly plausible that his stride is 1.25 yards. I’ve seen loads of referees take 9 steps to measure 10 yards, this one takes 8. Pretty sure all professional referees will know how many of their steps make up 10 yards.

Yeah but it's still clearly not 10 yards no matter how long his strides are.

No way was that step bigger than a yard however.

Should be able to measure it with VAR. that would stop any controversy .. :D

Given that the defence had to step forward a distance, 7 truly was 7....or less, as they were not very long strides either!

It verifies my thoughts on refs - at best 7/10!

He would probably reverse the decision and give offside!

10 yards = 9.14m

Say the average player is 1.82m (and they won't be), you wouldn't get 5 of them lying down between the ball and the line would you.

Hard to be sure. The distance from the edge of the box to the furthest point of the D is 4 yards. Therefore the ball appears to be approximately 12 yards outside of the box and 30 yards from goal. The wall should therefore be stood 2 yards outside the box. They’re stood 1 yard out so looking at the picture I wouldn’t say it’s unreasonable to say that the ball is 29 yards from goal.
