JJs Diner

Post by Wilson » Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:29 pm

Is the rumour that it has been demolished true?

Used to be very good but some of the reviews recently say food is still decent but service dreadful. Havent been in a while as you couldn't pay on card and always found that inconvenient when you could go 197 down the road and do so.

I dont think it is as inexpensive as it used to be. The food is always good quality though. I believe the meat is all from the butchers on Lyndhurst Rd.

I also heard that JJ's is moving into the ground floor of the Dugdale Arms, after trying unsuccessfully trying to purchase their exsisting premises. Guy that owns it wants an extortionate price (apparently)
Great breakfasts I've always thought.

We sometimes call in before games and we heard that it had gone so just thought I’d ask. Always been happy with the breakfast and never found it too expensive for what you get.

Be a shame if it does go/has gone! Still not sure from the replies. Always been handy for us location wise so not to sure where the new premises might be but understandable if needs must.

The Park View would be a good spot for them. Don't think anyones gonna take on that dump now though unfortunately.

Park View would need a fortune spending on it, Dugdale was in an ok condition

Bistro 197 has moved into Townley golf club, slightly bigger , beer on draft and plenty of parking now.
It's a bit better of set up IMO too.

Im due another visit soon.

Just dont ask to change any items. Last time I went I wanted extra black pudding and no sausage. My mate wanted the opposite. 'Sorry we cant change items but you can add extras for extra cost'

Can you not just switch them round 'no we cant do that's.

Plates arrived and we just switched them ourselves. Bonkers. Good food. And I like Danny who runs it. But can never understand why the other staff get so prescious about changing items on a breakfast. Especially in the above scenario.

Danny is sound.

That's odd, as when we last went in around September/October time we got to swap an item or 2.
We did know the waitress, but dont think that would have had anything to do with it, unless we just got lucky that day.

Danny came and had a breif chat with us too.

Foods always good and Danny's a good lad. Known him for what I was going to say is about 10 years. Just realised it's about 25. Feel sicker then I did when I couldn't swap that black pudding.

Yep time flies, we used to live across from.each south as kids, so probably pushing 25 if not 30 years myself.

JJ’s definitely still there. Been for breakfast just this morning.

Always found the food brilliant. The breakfasts are really flexible as you can swap any items/create your own breakfast. Service is great too, really welcoming.

Sometimes busy but that’s a good sign.

I think cricketfield and MACCA are talking about Bistro 197 not JJ’s when they talk about Danny and not being able to swap items, just realised.

I made that mistake as well. Asked for a starter from JJ’s and main course from Bistro 197 and they said no.
Any wonder the casual dining sector is suffering...
