George Boyd reveals Sean Dyche insight and his Burnley highlights ahead of Turf return
Former Claret to return to Turf Moor with Peterborough in FA Cup this weekend

George Boyd has hailed Sean Dyche's man management ahead of the midfielder's Burnley return.
The 34-year-old will be back at Turf Moor on Saturday with Peterborough United when the League One side face the Clarets in the FA Cup third round.
For Boyd it will be a memorable occasion with the Posh man set to feature against a side where he spent three years and made more than 120 appearances.
He joined the Clarets in a £3million deal in September 2014 and was a consistent performer in helping the club to the Championship title in 2016 and then securing their top flight status the following year.
He left for Sheffield Wednesday in 2017 and returned to Peterborough at the start of this season.
And Boyd, who was admired by the Clarets supporters for his energy and work-rate as well as his ability, has opened up on Dyche's management style and revealed the highlights of his Turf career.
Speaking to Peterborough Today, Boyd said: "Sean Dyche was a brilliant manager for me. He was a top man-manager. He used to make tough demands, but as long as you worked hard and gave everything he was a good man to work for".
"Every training session was intense. It was like playing a match. He only used to have 18-20 man squads so there was always a chance to play so every player put a shift in every day for him. It was one of the best team spirits I’ve ever known.
"And the fans responded to us. There was a real unity between the town and the football club. If you lived in Burnley you supported Burnley. It’s a working-class city and I loved it there."
Boyd found the net 12 times for the Clarets with his most memorable surely the strike that downed then champions Manchester City in March 2015.
"They were the reigning champions and we were fighting against the drop and needed points so that was satisfying," he added.
"I also scored in a 2-2 draw at City. They didn’t like playing against us because we used to play two up front against them and just get in their faces. They weren’t used to that.
"We didn’t stay up, but we won promotion the following season and then stayed up with a few games the next season to go which was a big achievement."

Re: George Boyd praises Mr Dyche and Burnley
He was good for us and I never had any problem with him being selected week in week out. Having said that I was ok with him moving on when he did because it seemed right for both parties. HOWEVER, looking at what we've got now and how we're performing it seems we haven't really upgraded since he (and Arfield and Jones and Ings and Vokes and Gray and Marney and Barton and...) moved on and are visibly slipping backwards.
Re: George Boyd praises Mr Dyche and Burnley
Reading that and watching us lately were nowhere near the same club on the pitch.

Brady should watch videos of this lad and Arfield every training session.
He has as much if not more talent than these two combined. But nowhere near the desire or workrate of one of them!

People said we had moved on from Boyd and Arfield and given their ages now we have. But if the comments meant this type of player then I can say I wish we had this type now in a good few games.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 8:52 pmBrady should watch videos of this lad and Arfield every training session.

When we had the likes of Boyd, Barton and Arfield in midfield their first job was to protect the defence and get the ball forward simply and effectively: a million miles from our current midfield.

Boyd and even more so Arfield played with pure passion.
Bradys goals and assists is abysmal. But its the lack of effort that annoys most.

Re: George Boyd praises Mr Dyche and Burnley
That's a good piece - he's also absolutely right about the togetherness between the club and the town/supporters - that was primarily as a result of the honesty of that squad which got us up the first time. There was never any doubt that any of them put in anything less than a full shift every week.
I guess it's an inevitable consequence of becoming - or trying to become - a more established PL club that we've seen a drift away from that type of player.
From a supporter's point of view it certainly doesn't feel the same as it did then.

As it happens though not convinced we have moved (progressively at least) away from that style.

I'd drive Arfield back from Glasgow tonight if I thought he'd want to make a backwards career move.

Re: George Boyd praises Mr Dyche and Burnley
I agree. It's almost the worst of both worlds at the moment. We've tried to buy players to improve the quality of the squad but because we're still the poor relations, relatively speaking, we've found we can't compete in purely footballing terms so we've reverted to type but we've lost the core of the squad that made that style so effective. In midfield - either individually or collectively - we can't play 'the press' to the anywhere near the same level that was possible with Marney, Arfield, Barton and Boyd - or even Kightly.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 9:27 pmIf we have its not been for the better.

I hope Robbe Brady and all the squad are participating in the "intense" training, as George Boyd describes and saves the watching of George Boyd's videos for his resting time.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 8:52 pmBrady should watch videos of this lad and Arfield every training session.

Now the real test: how will we feel if G Boyd scores the winner for Peterborough at the w/end? Applause for an ex-claret? or thanks that we have got the cup out of the way for another season?

Boydy is ones of those players who deserves a standing ovation on his return to the Turf. I understand that he's an opposition player, but that's not why he'd be getting applauded.

I liked him too, that ground covering he did was amazing, always looked committed, can't fault that. good luck to him.

We used to play with two full backs with two wing backs in front of them.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 8:52 pmBrady should watch videos of this lad and Arfield every training session.

Boyd and Arfield were excellent in stopping the opposition's wingers getting a clear run on our full backs.

Boyd was an amazing part of our recent history.
Although for many on hear he was the old Hendric.
For me, 2 very important players. Looking forward to giving him a warm welcome.

At last, our George is getting the recognition he deserved throughout his stay!
A wee story.
My new partner, came to watch the Clarets when George Boyd was playing. She suffered from anxiety.
About halfway through the season, she said, "Where's Boydy? He's the only one I recognise, without my glasses on!"
It turned out that because she was anxious, she did not watch with her glasses on!
She does now but did say on New Year's Day, "I think I am going to take my glasses off from now on!"

Re: George Boyd praises Mr Dyche and Burnley
Often wondered what Boyd brought to the game at times but then he would produce a pass or tackle or goal from nowhere. His endevour was beyond reproach though and he was the epitome of the 110% player.
Now we are in a dip history starts to repeat itself.
As we started to become successful under Dyche, Arfield and Boyd became targets for the moaners just as Hendrick and Cork are now and Marney was prior to them all.
A selection of our supporters would find something to moan about if we had the current squad and record of Liverpool.
I hope we beat Peterborough (hahaha) and Boydy has a good game. I'll certainly give him a clap.

Some very good posts regarding Boyd, Barton and Arfield we do miss the 100% intensity they gave to us. I read every Rangers report just to see how Scotty has done and he is doing a great job but then again he always did.
Re: George Boyd praises Mr Dyche and Burnley
Just read the interview with the Burnley Express, he said his kids are Claret obsessed.
