Why are Liverpool performing so well
Is it confidence?
Is it the manager?
Is it fitness?
Is it the team being stronger than individuals?
Pace?
Partnerships through the team?
Focus?
Intensity?
Really is remarkable how well they are playing. Man for man there are a good few who wouldn't start in one of two other sides - never mind historical premier league winners. They don't have a midfielder anywhere near the level of Gerrard. They don't have an out and out striker (but all three bag plenty) and their captain isn't renowned for any one trait and he plays alongside an ageing but committed, limited but hard working partner in Milner.
Yet they are the most dominant and fearsome side I think I have ever seen.
Its unbelievable to watch them. Just so quick out of the traps every game.

Re: Why are Liverpool performing so well
Man for man, probably not. But they did what City couldn't (and Pep rarely does) in winning the European Cup - in style as well. And are absolutely dominant. And are on course to destroy what City did that season. Obviously the second half of the season could change. But to go a year unbeaten and only drop 2 points this season is incredible.
Its very similar to The Arsenal invincibles in that it wasn't even Arsenals best team. But they were relentless.

Re: Why are Liverpool performing so well
A team with a lot of absolutely top players. Not sure where to start, they've got a top goalkeeper, outstanding defenders, a formidable midfield and then the front three.
This is a side beaten only once in the Premier League since the start of LAST season - that's 58 games. It's incredible but they are by now, for me, the best all round team by a country mile.

Re: Why are Liverpool performing so well
Owen has probably just nailed it. He said the centre halves are THAT good that the remaining 8 players outfield can attack at will because they know that those two are bigger, stronger, faster and better than anything that can be thrown at them.

All of the above added to the fact they have improved and strengthened every window. More importantly it’s about the whole team, they have had some great individuals over the years, but this a team and a very good one at that.

Re: Why are Liverpool performing so well
James Milner may be ageing, but limited? Limited to what exactly?
Easily, and by some considerable margin, the most versatile and consistent footballers of the last ten years. Still doing it consistently now.
A wonderful footballer, and a wonderful athlete.
As for Liverpool? Scarily brilliant. Sad thing is, their fans are going to be feckin ENDLESS, after winning the league.

Milner is a very solid, dependable player. And I admire how much he has gotten from his career.bobinho wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 10:29 pmJames Milner may be ageing, but limited? Limited to what exactly?

But does he score many? Not really. Does he set many up? Again not loads. Is he particularly skillful, or quick? No.
But he is a very hardworking player who gets the most. Limited wasn't a criticism. He has had a solid career. Reminds me of a much higher standard Alexander.

Everything just clicked there, getting rid of Suarez and Coutinho was the beginning, Klopp isn't the greatest manager but his enthusiasm is his biggest asset. .

Re: Why are Liverpool performing so well
Lots of good points and can't dispute any
For me the chemistry between Klopp and the team is exceptional. Always felt with Pep that he tries to portray it but it does not look so genuine
I reckon another club could offer the Liverpool players a better contract and wages but all they want to do is play for Liverpool and Klopp. They must have some great coaching too as they seem to be getting better individually. What I like is the way they can develop players-Robertson, Henderson, Mane to mention a few, and we all thought Milner was finished a few years ago but he is still an immense squad player

Re: Why are Liverpool performing so well
They spend to get the best ie Van Dijk and Allison
But they have made some incredible signings-Coutinho for £8.5m, Robertson £10m, Milner free, Henderson £13m. Vydra and Gibson each cost more than any of these
They have just bought a Japanese Striker for £7.5m -no doubt he will be developed to become a top striker

simplicity - football is a game of triangles, if you have players who can pass and move quickly you will win most games at any level.

Re: Why are Liverpool performing so well
I think it's because they always pass the ball to a team mate.

Exactly. They do the simple things to an astonishing level.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 3:20 amsimplicity - football is a game of triangles, if you have players who can pass and move quickly you will win most games at any level.
Passes are so quick and precise. The ball zips along the surface with each pass. Switching play between the full backs is the best I’ve seen. TAA will become the greatest ever full back. He’ll do what Messi and Ronaldo have done to the great other forwards to the greatest full backs.
Re: Why are Liverpool performing so well
I think it's everything in the O/P and confidence is an enormous plus, players wanting the ball and not shying away for fear of making a mistake.

Re: Why are Liverpool performing so well
I was reading this morning that if Liverpool beat Spurs , they can afford to drop a point a game and they'll still win the League even if City and Media Darlings win all the rest of theirs. That's pretty impressive.
Re: Why are Liverpool performing so well
Unless TAA learns to defend, he'll never be as good as Philip Lahm.Dyched wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 1:03 pmExactly. They do the simple things to an astonishing level.

Maybe not but he’s only 20 odd PL assists behind the so called “greatest midfielder ever” Paul Scholes.

A startling amount of money and eventually finding a competent goalkeeper.
