Mike Rigg

Post by claretcarrot93 » Fri Jan 03, 2020 3:18 pm

Can we ask questions yet? Its been two years and it was promised to help Dyche in the transfer market.

In that time we have signed

Peter Crouch
J-Rod
Pieters
Drinkwater
Peacock - Farrell

4 from the championship and a failed Chelsea loanee.

Maybe Dyche just isn't willing to budge on his rigid requirements for new players?

Starting to think that SD is starting to realise the challenge ahead, but if it goes tits up he can always say "well of course we were not allowed to do what the other PL clubs have done- ie spend money"

Or maybe players better than what we have already just don't want to come to Burnley! Certainly if I was a player who had been approached by Burnley and thought, I'll just have a look on their messageboard to see what their fans think of the club and their manager, I would definitely not get a good impression!

Yeah course, theres no midfielders in world football better than Cork or Westwood who'd like to come and play in the Prem for 40-50k a week!

Care to name them and tell me what their wages demands are? In fact never mind world football, care to name me some Premier League ones who would be attracted by Burnley?

I think it was Mr Barton the other week that called Dyche "tight" when it comes to money - no idea if it was tongue in cheek to be fair but.......

Highly unlikely that a player would use a fans messageboard to decide whether to sign.
More loikely (in order):
Wages and length and terms of contract
Geography
Manager and style of play.

It will always be difficult for us to attract real top end of the market players.

Wasn’t Rigg at Stoke at some point ? Or at least he was instrumental in bringing Pieters to Stoke. On that evidence don’t expect us to stray too far from type in our transfer dealings.

I’ve seen a lot of posts suggesting first team recruitment isn’t his main role or really his remit.

But as has been mentioned above, recruitment was mentioned pretty heavily when he joined. He then had a series of pieces with the one of the local papers essentially laying out his vision. Since then we’ve heard nothing from him.

Think it’s fair now to start questioning what he’s actually doing. The club stated the his recruitment was carried out by Garlick and Dyche so everyone must surely have been on board with the move.

If you look at who we’ve brought in or even the players we’ve been linked with over the last 2 years, most people on this board could have identified them as potential targets.

I'm Surprised Sam Allardyce did so well at Bolton and Blackburn, them extra 9-25 miles must make all the difference to them overseas players.

I've heard some guff in my time but location of Burnley and supporters on message boards for players possibly not signing trumps the lot.

Most players want to
A. Get paid the best they can
B. Play regularly

I doubt who they play for or where the ground/training ground is based makes a jot of difference for 99% of players.

Zero, but he said world football. Not sure why you had to restrict it to the premier league, we can’t afford to buy players, decent ones anyway, from premier league clubs.

There are players out there.

Just to be clear, the point I was making is that many of our fans think we play hoofball, rubbish football, have no pace, can't score, are going to be relegated, the manager needs sacking etc etc. How are those views going to attract players to take a risk coming to Burnley! That clear enough for you to comprehend! :D

Its not all like that, there are fans that want something in the middle. We have spent nothing for two windows and would like to see a signing to go into the first team and a slightly improved watch of football on the eye. Nobody wants us to sign a 50 million player but we are in trouble(relegation wise) make no mistake about it and some people have their head in the sands.

Who are they and if they are that good that they would go straight into our starting lineup what would attract them to come to Burnley, as opposed to other PL clubs, who presumably would also be after them if they are that good?

It’s not up to me to educate you on who some of the most in form players in the championship are.

And, by your logic, we will never sign anyone as there’s no point given we can’t either afford or attract decent players to Burnley.

"we can't afford to buy players, decent one's anyway, from Premier League clubs"

We can, however, waste millions by signing players like DD on loan and leave them sitting on the bench twiddling their thumbs, even though our own midfielders are getting outplayed whatever the opposition put in front of them.

We can't afford to buy decent players from Championship clubs let alone PL clubs.

There's always an excuse isn't there.

Won't come because of the weather, doesn't want to live in the North West, not good enough because they're currently playing the championship, not good enough because they're not currently getting a game for their PL team, not good enough because they're from a foreign league which is easier, won't come because of the money, the pens have ran out again, other clubs are after him so won't want to come here, other clubs aren't after him to mustn't be good enough

I'm amazed we've ever been able to sign a player, let alone a squad

Anybody with any pace. When we counter attack by the time we make our second pass the opposition have 11 players back behind the ball. McNeil has to run off on his own

I would certainly like us to sign some players to go straight into the team but it's obviously difficult to attract them. In the current form we are in, our league position, the fact that we don't pay massive wages etc, we are not a very attractive proposition.

The top 2 clubs in the country by a mile are a 45 minute drive away, players dont care where the club is based, the generally live out of time.

And as mentioned, Blackburn and Bolton managed to attract some cracking local and foreign talent on a regular bases. Some top names weren't too bothered about playing in them small northern towns

Would love to know if there is anything going on behind the scenes with regards to improving our international scouting network as stated in the arrival piece above.

Unfortunately I fear that had we made any major strides in this area the club would have let us know so it's likely we'll continue to plod on with our disappointing last few windows.

Mike Rigg and Sean Dyche are coming in for some stick, some justified.

But there's only 1 man that wants to keep hold of the premier league money, anyone would think it's his own money the way he keeps a tight hold of it.

Mr Garlick seems to be last one in line to get stick, and he's the main culprit who deserves to shoulder most of the blame

I’m sure if players actually decided whether to join a club or not based on what that teams fans say on the internet then they would all pack it in and head down the job centre due to not being able to find a club.

Not sure, seems he loves posting profits and less so in strengthening the first 11.

I've my opinions on what he's upto but it's only my opinion.

Location will always be a factor.
It can of course be negated by paying people enough money to bankrupt the club, which of course, bolton and blackburn did

Not being used as example of how to buy players, just that it can be done.
People saying it cant due to location, those 2 clubs show it can.
Yes it may take more money, but the amount we waste in fees and wages on garbage would allow us to stretch the wages for 1 or 2 quality players

Somebody prefers looking at the Balance Sheet instead of the Team Sheet it appears.

Location will always be a factor.
It can of course be negated by paying people enough money to bankrupt the club, which of course, bolton and blackburn did
Ah the old "if we want to stretch the money on wages, we go bankrupt"

There's a happy medium you know?

It's clear that Dyche is unhappy with the current situation and has tried to raise it publically (bringing Long on up front at Everton, having 2 youngsters on the bench at Spurs, comments about offering some pies for Harry Kane on loan back in the day). We are not willing (rightly so) to pay silly money for bigger names who won't accept 50% less salary clauses in their contract if we went down.
Lets hope for a rabbit out of the hat this Jan. We should be in for Bowen. Cairney at Fulham ?
We'll pull off a shock win soon. I'm sure the players will be thinking, hang on a mo, we could go down here, we need to get our act together...

Not sure, seems he loves posting profits and less so in strengthening the first 11.

I've my opinions on what he's upto but it's only my opinion.
Would love to hear your opinion.

Not being used as example of how to buy players, just that it can be done.
People saying it cant due to location, those 2 clubs show it can.
Yes it may take more money, but the amount we waste in fees and wages on garbage would allow us to stretch the wages for 1 or 2 quality players
Macca, I'm not sure anyone is saying it can't be done, just that it is less likely.
