You just know for Vydra to prove SD wrong, it'll be a forced start due to injuries. He'll then do well and SD will have little option to keep starting him.

And 4-6-0 if he was the only forward available.

Missed a near open goal. Had time to control and place it into the net.

He'll be ok when he is fully Dyche-fit and understands the physicality of the framework. It's all fine margins.

Surely can be forgiven a bit of ring-rust?

He did okay, I like his vision, some lovely through balls and cut backs.

Not sure he fits into the formula when we start hammering long balls though.

No axe to grind and i appreciate how hard it must be for him but just don’t think he’s good enough.

Id cash in now while we still have a chance. Its never going to work here. Which is a real shame. But selling him or using as a makeweight elsewhere would make sense.

Same goes for Gibson.

Any player needs a handful of games. Or even 2-3 with a couple of half hour sub appearances. He’s been getting scraps at best. It’s not been fair on him really, especially as we’ve been struggling.

Looked ok today....nothing more.

I think some supporters are getting a little carried away and are desperately looking for anything which suggests Dyche is wrong for not playing him.

Fair play to him for even coming on. Not even getting a run out at half time when we were coasting against a league one side shows Dyche doesn't like him.
A lot of players would of just said don't bother, get me on that transfer list.

I think that sums it up perfectly. The reception he received had nothing to do with him. He didn't offer much, probably should have scored at the end, but wasn't really on long enough to be fair.

I think all people are asking for is for him to be given a fair chance? He couldn't be any worse than Barnes has been the last weeks.

Scored against Bournemouth, had an assist at Cardiff the following game in a victory then gets dropped, then gets selected as a one up front away at City there must be other issues or that is totally unjustified especially as he was our only viable alternative to a battering ram forward line set up.

Should defo be starting in the next couple of games as were not expected to get anything plus all our strikers are pretty much useless at the moment so why not give him a consistent run and give the opposition something else to think about. He's clearly a goalscorer and given an opportunity and game time im sure he will bang for us as his confidence starts to grow

He scored 21 in 40 as a number 10 in the 17/18 season for Derby...

His one start @#10 for us in the league was against Bournemouth where we won 4-0 at home & his movement caused Bournemouth a real problem, then was benched & never started in the league again.

Odd cameo roles he has also looked lively & useful albeit usually on when we're chasing the game by a significant margin (Liverpool away).

How he wasn't preferred to lumping it long to Crouch at the end of last season was imo, disgraceful.

Sean Dyche has done wonders with us but there are some questions about some of the decisions he has made.

He's given other players umpteen chances but non really to Vydra- oh other than a 'go and proove yourself' playing as a lone striker vs City away in the FA Cup which is harsh - in contrast how many has Brady has & flattered to deceive?

He is now 4th choice striker behind Wood, Rodriguez and Barnes. He is not going to get any real opportunities, we may as well try and sell him to try and recoup some cash, get a body off the wage bill and use that to get a good midfielder. Shame for him but it's not going to work for him at Burnley.

Just with Ben Mee moving central and McNeil getting his chance, it will take a forced start with little other options for Vydra to get enough of a chance.

So who do we drop?

Leading goalscorer Wood or most experienced forward Jay Rod?

Its easy to say give him a game, but if you then a better player doesnt start.

If Vydra was putting Mee and Tarks on their bum and smashing the ball into the top corner everyday in training he would be playing.

Same goes for Gibson.

Well you never know until he's given a chance. Clearly our next games we will get nothing from so give Vydra a few games and lets actually make a more accurate decision based on a good run of games. Its hardly like our other 3 strikers are doing much at all

With Barnes not in form, it depends on Wood. If he's "touch and go", then this could be a chance for him.

Yeah cos Dyche has shown a real willingness to drop his favourites in his time with us. If certain players are fit they play no matter what, irrespective of form.

Some players turn up in games more than training.

I know numerous boxers/Thai boxers/MMA guys that are absolute world beaters on the pads & in the gym, then under the spotlights crumble...

Some people step up during gametime

That sort of area. No defender within 5 foot and rather than chest it down and place it he goes for a volley, kicks it into the ground and hits the defender that’s blocking the goal. However I accept he’s rusty and probably to eager and just panicked

I wouldnt be surprised if signing one player at 5 million on 20 k week who will never play and one at 15 million at 25 k week who will fits the boards framework more than signing one player at 20 million on 30k week who is far better than both.

By Dyche’s favourites you mean Dyche’s best players don’t you. I think there may be a reason why Dyche is reluctant to drop his best players and I doubt very much that some kind of imagined and fabricated favouritism is it.

So it wouldn’t surprise you if the board were intentionally signing poorer players instead of better players at the same cost? Really? Do you really think that?

Well the fact that he won't even drop Ashley Barnes who is currently injured and playing like a Sunday league hacker would suggest he very much has his favourites.

Short memories some. Barnes started the season fantastically. He’s had a short dip in form and I expect he will make way for Rodriguez next week. But on his day he is one of our two best forwards, which is why Dyche favours him. Managers often persist with out of form strikers because it often only takes a goal to end the poor run.

Still, if you’d prefer to believe that Dyche has his ‘favourites’ for reasons other than ability and application then by all means carry on in your miserable fantasy world.

Not been given enough chances it’s pretty simple really. There has been many many opportunities where we’ve needed to change our approach in a game and he has just been left on the bench. Saying that we’ve also done petty well without him featuring, although I would have liked him to be a success as most of us would, it looks as if this has almost run its course now

Barnes has scored twice since August, and one of those was a penalty. It's clear Dyche favours Barnes because he suits our long ball, percentage, let's try and win some cheap free kicks gameplan.
Personally I'd rather watch Jay Rod, someone who is actually capable of controlling a football and passing to a teammate, rather than spending 90% of the game on his arse and the other 10% shouting at the ref.

Jesus. You’re such a bore. You don’t think Barnes is capable of controlling a football and passing to a team mate? Why the need to be so disrespectful for such a good servant of the club. Barnes has been, and continues to be a fantastic player for us. The fact that you can make such snide remarks about him after a short dip in form says a lot about you.

He's had way way more chances than Wells who is universally written off. He's too lightweight for me in the prem. He's easily outmuscled and whilst he does have a decent touch he does need others around him to be creating space for him for him to operate effectively. He can't get the ball in a congested space and conjure something up. It's not him.

Standard Derby lightweight

Barnes is definitely capable of controlling a ball, but his passing is awful. Truly awful.

Think how many times he's been in a position to lay the ball off to a team mate to either shoot or run through on goal. The think how many times its actually happened.
