Makeweights (player + cash)
I have seen a few other posters mention this and I couldn't agree more.....
I would suggest that we currently have 3 players that would be very sought after by Championship clubs currently chasing promotion and, as these players are not contributing to our starting XI, we should be looking to use these players in player + cash deals to bring players in who will contribute.
Wells - currently the Championship's top goalscorer. Surely a bid of £10m + Wells gets us a very decent player.
Vydra - Again, his record in the Championship should mean there is a queue for his services. £5/10m + Vydra should get you a very decent player.
Gibson - would easily be the best centre half in the Championship should he end up back at that level. £5/10 + Gibson would get you a very decent player.
Wages might be an issue for our players dropping down a level but many Championship clubs have rich financial benefactors and you would think that whichever player we were trying to bring in would be a top earner at their current club so their wages may well cancel each other out.
We should be actively using these players to get more quality in. 2 out of the 3 are good Championship goal scorers which are worth their weight in gold - especially for clubs looking for someone to help with that final push over the line.
It's time to wheel and deal.

Mitrovic at Fulham is the top scorer.

You're right. I read somewhere that Wells went top scorer with his hat-trick...maybe it was top scorer for QPR. Either way, point stands that he's a goalscorer at that level and is putting himself nicely in the shop window.

Re: Makeweights (player + cash)
Why would a team chasing promotion damage their chances mid season by losing a player who's working well for them in exchange for a minor sum and a gamble on another player who might work out but equally might not.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2020 9:09 pmI have seen a few other posters mention this and I couldn't agree more.....

10th and below that might appeal to but it's not going to help us land a Jared Bowen or Ollie Watkins type. Those lads will go for a big fee and a wage can't compete with.

Re: Makeweights (player + cash)
Fair point but it's up to BFC to target the right player and offer the right deal. Only 3 teams can go up so there's going to be a lot of disappointed, talented players left in the Championship come the end of the season. And equally there will be clubs who will consider these types of offers.CombatClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2020 11:40 pmWhy would a team chasing promotion damage their chances mid season by losing a player who's working well for them in exchange for a minor sum and a gamble on another player who might work out but equally might not.

I'm just saying that we have players with value who don't play and are unlikely to play and if we are saying we haven't got a load of money then we have to think outside the box with deals.
Vydra - would Derby have him back in exchange for Bogle?
Wells - would QPR donate deal with Eze?
Gibson - been linked with Newcastle. Do they have any players that might interest us?
Derby and QPR are struggling (relatively speaking) financially. Why wouldn't they consider such deals?
Just speculating, of course, but we have to be inventive and proactive with recruitment if we can't throw money at it.

Re: Makeweights (player + cash)
All this hinges upon both clubs & more importantly both players willing to agree to move & also the extra cash, so much could go wrong if 1 in the 6 factors doesn't agree, it might happen in 1 window with 1 deal being completed, it's really pushing the luck expecting 3 to happen, with such deals the negotiations are far more time consuming & intensive.

Cash plus Wells or Jimmy Dunne for Ivan Toney
He looked a good prospect yesterday

Are we saying we can't afford a cash purchase from the mighty Peterborough
Re: Makeweights (player + cash)
I did wonder because he wasn't in the squad yesterday if Gibson is being lined up for a move in this window. Both him and Vydra definately need regular football, this month will perhaps see that. As for Wells I imagine there will be interest but no doubt its down to our valuation.

Re: Makeweights (player + cash)
Nahki Wells's contract is up in the Summer, he can go anywhere with no fee, but get himself a nice signing on fee or enhanced wages ... If we can get a fee for him in this window, then all well and good, but I suspect it'll be negligible.
Joe Hart is again out of contract in the Summer ..... If we can get £1m from Villa, with an established International like Bailey Peacock-Farrell in reserve, then it's good business ...

Re: Makeweights (player + cash)
Wells will go in the summer,he may even already have his agent talking to potential suitors, and he can sign a pre-contract agreement as of now,i'll be surprised if we can command a fee for him, perhaps if QPR had the readies, and a realistic shot at a play-off place they'd be prepared to offer a small fee, however he's there on loan till the end of the season anyway,so i don't see what advantage they'd gain from making his signing premanent, when he's available on a free in a few months,i suppose if there's other Championship clubs interested, which there apparently is,he'd be wise to weigh up his options, and decide at the end of the season.Clarets4me wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2020 8:52 pmNahki Wells's contract is up in the Summer, he can go anywhere with no fee, but get himself a nice signing on fee or enhanced wages ... On Joe Hart, firstly how severe is Pope's injury,if he's facing a spell on the sidelines, and we let Hart leave for Villa,we are down to BPF who hasn't yet made his PL debut, and Adam Legzdins who i don't think has any top-flight experience either.that would be a hell of a risk during a relegation battle.
Secondly why should we aid Villa a fellow relegation rival by selling them Hart for a nominal fee,if we're relegated it'll cost a lot more than £1m that's for sure.
