Burnley and surrounding Areas recommendations
Burnley and surrounding Areas recommendations
Hi Folks, I am coming down for the Arsenal game with my fiancée for my Birthday weekend, whilst I have stayed at Holiday Inn and Premier Inn Previously I am looking for something more cultured and typically English, I have heard good reviews on Skipton and some other areas around?
Can anyone recommend a nice Hotel/village type place in the Burnley area?
Thanks

Fence gate lodge. Not cheap but very nice.

Fence gate just on the out skirts and ideal for walks to Pendle etc.

Fence gate a good shout. Very good all round when I stayed there in the summer.
Crow Wood Hotel and Spa another excellent option.

Calf’s Head at Worston or the new hotel at Crow Wood (think this is the place the opposition now stay rather than the Dunk - well it was in the case of Chelsea)

I believe Fence Gate Lodge is impressive but maybe worth looking at some in the Pendle villages such as the Assheton Arms at Downham & Pendle Inn at Barley.
I’ve no idea on quality and prices though.

A bit further afield than Skipton but would highly recommend Ilkley. Great restaurants, lovely places to stay, a great river and park and of course, Ilkley Moor and it’s Cow and Calf rocks. I love living in these parts.

Guest house in Worsthorne if it’s available is a good option.
Billet pre match and mini bus to ground.

I think the Assheton Arms has just won gastro pub of the year or some such. I used to call for a beer after walking Pendle but they gradually became more and more resistant to that as they morphed into a 'gastro pub'.

Many years since I was in there. I was just plucking potential names out of my head.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2020 9:58 pmI think the Assheton Arms has just won gastro pub of the year or some such. Barley Mow is in a great spot, decent food, nice pub and fairly priced. Nice walks and pubs on the doorstep and not too far from the turf. Id definitely recommend it.

Excellent food and reasonably priced rooms, at the " Higher Buck ", in the lovely village of Waddington, near Clitheroe. Less than a 30 minute drive to the Turf ....

Re: Burnley and surrounding Areas recommendations
Now i must say having tried a good few places to stay in Burnley i am still a fan of the Holiday Inn . As close to town friendly staff and good rooms , the only down side would be breakfast for me .
Hey staying there again this year and love the walk into town by the canal
