Michael Oliver does something positive with VAR!

Post by jdrobbo » Sun Jan 05, 2020 3:48 pm

Luka Milivojevic had just been sent off by Michael Oliver. Oliver consulted the monitors to come to the conclusion of a red card. More of this please!

They will maybe have different instructions for the FA Cup but at least the decision has been made by the referee

Exactly and let’s hope that it’s held up as an example to others, going forwards.

It’s a recommendation from PGMOL not to use it in the Premier League to avoid delays.

Just seen the incident. Oliver couldn’t have seen all that happened initially so well done for going over to the monitor.

One of our better refs, bit of common sense at last.

Good ref or bad ref, what he’s done is take responsibility for the decision.

Agree with all the above comments but wouldn't be surprised if Oliver is rebuked for using his initiative!

You couldn't make it up could you?

How long was the delay for the disallowed Villa goal? Seemed like an eternity... Reckon the ref would look at that and just give the goal after ten seconds.

Doubt the refs will use the monitor to judge offsides as the VAR has to draw the lines on the pitch.

i read an article the other day that stated FIFA are very unhappy with how the Premier League is using VAR and has in no uncertain terms told them to get in line with the other leagues and major championships in the way they use it

Fair point, but is the line absolutely necessary? If you need a line, in my opinion (which I realise matters not) it's already gone too far.

Definitely gone too far. The way it’s used for offsides needs massively rethinking.

they should take away the lines, if it's clear and obvious then fair enough - if you need to draw a line it isn't

Would have been quicker to have two men with paint pots to actually draw the lines on the pitch. :x
