Pretty sure Gunsmith Place didn't exist before the new bus station was built.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 10:37 pmjust found a photo of the lane, but no idea how to post it. looks to be top end of bus station , opposite the Atlantis cafe. croft street . shows it as gunsmith place, not lane. my mistake.
I've attached a copy of the area from the 1932 OS map of Burnley. Should get a few "I remember..........." and "When did.......? responses from some of us oldies on here

Tony, the tram tracks are still under the road surface I think. Football special teams stopping at Turf Moor would be brilliant.

I hadn't seen it like that on a map, although Gunsmith "place" was around before the present new bus station, saw a photo of the sign and it seemed to go from the opposite side of croft street across from farmfoods, towards where the subway is now under centenary way. it used to have a few shops on it, and the el grec.

I liked this because it puts meat on the bone in respect to history. I don't know Hanna, and I'm sure there are people who have more positive recollections, but adding a little more here and there builds such a great picture.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 4:52 pmSam Hanna - my old woodwork teacher and not the most pleasant of men, but he was very much into his cine photography.
I think we're now left to second hand memories of that great team that won the FA Cup, and the League seven years later, and if we can get a lot of people passing those memories on (before they do), we could have a very interesting history of the club and the people who followed it.
Record the memories and let's share them.

I would have thought most men would smell strongly of tobacco.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2020 9:47 pmthey usually had two three piece suits, one for sunday best. they were very hard to clean as well. might have looked dapper, but quite a smell
Notice also how grimy the buildings appear. That might be partly black and white photography but mostly from soot from coal fires and factories.
