Can't be true, our resident doom mongers tell us we have no players (Dwight apart) that others would want

Strange one, but I suspect he is not happy one little bit about the lack of playing time he's had. Hopefully with Barnes not 100% he should get that game time, and hopefully keep hold of the shirt.

Their fans won't be happy, they gave him some right stick. Presumably for his West Brom links?

Or has he done something to upset them?

Didn’t he punch a last minute equaliser in against them last season?

He will be wanting to play more, as every player does, but he's very happy at Burnley.

Villa are also interested in signing Benteke and many others, according to the Telegraph.

I for one want him to stay, 6th highest scorer last season with 22 goals in the championship

Vydra got 21 season before top scorer.

Who we going to go and buy to replace these two.

Barnes has a groin injury, Wood went off with what looked like a Hamstring issue, think they said tight hamstring. If it goes he will be out for 8 weeks.

So Jay and Vydra could be playing a lot of games in the next few weeks.

Totally agree. Barnes has not hit last season's standards this year and isn't adding much to the team IMO. Maybe defenders have figured him out a little and he certainly doesn't seem to have the intelligence (that may be a little harsh) to outplay defenders when they are able to stand up to his bullying tactics (not an insult as I like him).

I'm sure half the teams in the PL, especially lower regions, would like JayRod. I can't for the life of me understand why he doesn't start every week for us.

Pretty obvious why he doesn't start every week. The partnership with Barnes and Wood has been very, very effective. We've struggled a bit recently and I think that's down to the injury Barnes has.

Not good enough imo, I’d get rid of Vydra and Rodriguez. I wouldn’t be confident in the funds being reinvested on better replacements though.

Hart, Vydra and Rodriguez are linked with moves away and Hendrick won't sign a contract. No incomings and we're skint.

Excellent news.

If both wood and Barnes aren't fit for Saturday which is very likely,it leaves just jay and vydra as our last 2 recognised strikers,I would still bet that dyche would play Hendrick behind jay , just to let the fans know who the boss is

I wish he would play Hendrick behind one striker because I still think we then look a better team. Alternatively, playing Jay as he did on Saturday would be similar.

Think Jay brings something different to the table so we'd be stupid to sell him especially to villa. But bringing something different to the table isn't really being used much atm.

Should be in our starting 11 every single week now. Either as a withdrawn number 10 or as a wide forward.

No way we sell him to Villa this month. If we do, we're more up the creek than I thought.

I really don’t get you Murger. All you ever do is complain. Every single post is negative. Incredible for me given this is the best you are ever likely to see us having four successive years in the Premier League. I really don’t get it, you can’t wait to make negative comments.

Hendrick did a terrific job in that role.

Jay should have been more involved from game one as he was great in pre-season. Barnes has had some brilliant performances since recovering fully from his cruciate, however he is carrying an injury/and or going through major loss of form.I dont think he has done anything special since the Watford game. His time is now spent complaining to the ref

Jay has got a lot in his locker and scored some great goals for us. Seems a great team player. Hopefully with a prolonged run SD will afford him his loyalty too

We are far better to play 5 in midfield until Barnes is fit/redicovers his form

I think the bottom clubs have targeted us to replace them in the bottom 3 looking at the next 4 games, and are trying to unsettle our players and turn a few heads. Norwich and Villa.

It certainly has been effective, albeit that there have always been sorts of games against sorts of opponents against which they've struggled. That effectiveness definitely continued into this season.

However, I do think that since about the beginning of November, that effectiveness has been severely reduced. Partly, that's down to the injury Barnes is carrying and form (Barnes isn't just carrying an injury, he's always been a streaky sort of player, and he's been going through a rut since roughly the end of the cricket season). It might also have been affected by the odd injury to Wood.

But the other factor here is that we had a string of games, starting with Palace at home, in which it was entirely predictable that they'd struggle, because those teams set up to congest the spaces Wood and in particular Barnes want to work in. Palace played a narrow back 4 with another bang in front to stop the direct ball into them, Newcastle and Villa went 3 at the back to block off the spaces and sat at least one midfielder bang in front, and even Man United brought the lesser-spotted Matic into the team to block the spaces. In those games, Wood can still stretch teams down the sides to an extent, but Barnes in particular is completely neutralised, because his game is about looking for and winning the scrap, and these tactics make it much harder for him to achieve either.

This was obvious at times even last season, and I assumed that the reason we wanted Rodriguez was because he gives us a different option in these games. He's much more comfortable dropping away from the centre backs into midfield to link the play and find space, has a better touch under pressure, and so is more able to find his way out of tight spaces, and has a vastly superior range of passing. In short, he'd give us more of the tools to play football in these games.

Against Villa and United we saw this when he came on. But a bit too often recently - notably at Everton - we've tried to use Rodriguez as we would Barnes, rather than playing into feet more.

So - Dyche definitely might have used Jay not only more frequently, but also more effectively this season - and particularly recently, we'd have been a better team for it.

With Barnes and Wood both carrying injuries not even we'd be daft enough to let Jay go this month. Get the feeling he's gonna be a key man for us till the end of the season. Last few games we've looked far better with him on the pitch.

Barnes hasn't been doing much for a while now really. He doesn't even bully the CB's like he used to. If he's injured then he shouldn't be playing, if he isn't being as effective as usual then he shouldn't be playing. Drop Barnes and let him rediscover himself and fight for his place back/recover from injury then whoever's comes in for him has to perform at maximum level. Which can only be good for us. We need real competition for places not just as cover.

It is true that we got more points the season when Hendrick played nr 10, but it was much more complicated than that. For example, Defour was in the team. Imo Hendrick did a decent job then and remains an important squad member. However he is not a proper nr 10. Jay is imo and we saw a difference against Villa when he went behind Wood.

We have been sussed at 442 and get overrun in cm.

I think Jeff has put in some terrific performances this season and if ever a player needed a reassuring arm its Jeff. Often played out of position, 1st one to be subbed, and mosts scapegoat. Our best midfielder for me when it comes to breaking forward, and those goals.

What’s a proper number 10? Dyche constantly explained the role Hendrick played. Jay fits the traditional number 10 role whereas Hendrick doesn’t but the role Hendrick played fit perfectly.

Good question, I'd love to hear Mr Dyche's reason for it. Barnes has been absolutely woeful the last few games.

Hendrick did play his role very well as the most advanced midfielder. With Defour sitting deeper and acting the as play maker, Hendrick's role was more about athleticism and getting around the pitch than technical skill.

When Defour was absent, which was a lot, it just didn't work. Neither Cork nor Westwood are capable of getting anywhere near replicating what Defour was for us. They are simply different types of players. Not surprisingly we appeared totally stunted and lacking in creativity when those 3 played together.

It led to Hendrick taking a lot of stick for his perceived inability to play the no 10 role. And to be fair, he can't play the no 10 role when the the responsibility for creating is given to him.

Totally agree that the dynamic changed when Defour dropped out of the side and we quickly changed then by partnering Wood & Barnes up top.

Dyche didn’t play Hendrick in that role though
To be fair CT i think you was in the minority in thinking Hendrick played well as a number 10, and i think you also said something around it was not his natural position and therefore should not be judged on it? However I do think the team is better when Hendrick is in it, and i think its the second ball retention.

That’s exactly why playing Hendrick as a number 10 won’t work now. Defour and Brady’s form made him look more effective in that role than he actually is.

Not good enough imo, I’d get rid of Vydra and Rodriguez. I wouldn’t be confident in the funds being reinvested on better replacements though.
Just out of interest if/when you get rid of Vydra and Rodriguez who are you looking at to replace them? I'm just taking a more pragmatic view on the situation you might create.
