I don’t think you can determine whether I’m in the minority or the majority and I don’t ever recall suggesting it wasn’t his natural position. In fact I liked him playing in that role in that team two years ago.ClaretAL wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 7:48 pmTo be fair CT i think you was in the minority in thinking Hendrick played well as a number 10, and i think you also said something around it was not his natural position and therefore should not be judged on it? However I do think the team is better when Hendrick is in it, and i think its the second ball retention.

Hendrick at the 10 worked out well because we had a magnificent midfield pairing of a fit Steven Defour and Cork from two years ago, who has only regressed since then. It wouldn’t work now. Once Defour was injured the 4-5-1 went away.

It's a good question because I doubt anyone better would be affordable/come here.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 7:51 pmJust out of interest if/when you get rid of Vydra and Rodriguez who are you looking at to replace them? I'm just taking a more pragmatic view on the situation you might create.

I thought we played better football with Hendrick in that advanced position, admittedly it was always better when Defour played.KefkaClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 7:55 pmHendrick at the 10 worked out well because we had a magnificent midfield pairing of a fit Steven Defour and Cork from two years ago, who has only regressed since then. Re: Villa want Jay Rod
I think players recognise that they all can't start, that's why we have subs each week.
There must be 5 threads on here about players who must want to leave as they don't play each week. It never really seemed to be a problem before, now it's the hot topic. I'd imagine Jay as a professional is quite happy at Burnley.
I just waiting for the Kevin Long one they we will have a full set.

We had Defour playing well at that time & Brady.......that was our heyday.WestMidsClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 6:32 pmIf he Hendrick did such a good job why isn't he still playing there? If he was that good then why has Dyche dropped him from that role?
Pretty much ended with Brady's injury at Leicester, but we were playing some really good football.

Totally agree, if Barnes is carrying an injury, he shouldn't be playing - it doesn't help his recovery, and he's definitely not helping the team.
And it really does look like he is carrying an injury.

Wouldn’t blame JR for being a bit frustrated but he is getting some game time and this could be a good chance to win the shirt. He adds a little extra to the forward line . Tricky if no Wood or Barnes as surely Jeff behind JR and Lennon out wide will be the only real option and Jeff ain’t no no 10 unless cushioned with Defour like quality

Sorry CT much as I respect your opinion, it's not pretty obvious to me why JayRod doesn't play every week. Potentially, given time, the best pairing up front, should Dyche insist on playing 4-4-2 is Wood and JayRod. Makes us less predictable, and JR runs the channels better than Barnes and lets be frank he's a far better footballer. JR can also come deep and if needs be he'd be a far better no10 than heaven forbid Hendrick ever was likely to be.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 5:52 pmPretty obvious why he doesn't start every week. The partnership with Barnes and Wood has been very, very effective. We've struggled a bit recently and I think that's down to the injury Barnes has.

It's obvious because until recently the Barnes/Wood partnership has been fantastic for us, averaging just about a goal per game.ashtonlongsider wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 10:06 amSorry CT much as I respect your opinion, it's not pretty obvious to me why JayRod doesn't play every week.
