Just reading the excellent Bob Lord book and up to the 70s and when there was only 3 sides to the ground then the stand was constructed.I know it was officially opened against Leeds in the 74_75 season but my memory it was first used the season before in the cup game against Wrexham was that the first time or was it another game thanks in advance

Cheers memory must be going was on both games can't remember it open against Villa

First game the Bob Lord stand was open was the 5th Round FA Cup tie against Villa on 16th Feb.'74.

An excellent book, readable, fair and well researched with sources listed.
I was never a Bob Lord fan but the book nearly made me change my mind and I even felt sorry for him towards the end. Selling McIlroy and Dobson were major turning points but th'owd butcher made his contributions to the club in many ways.

It was the Villa game but I think it was only partially opened that day. You are correct that the official opening was in 1974/75 season, the home game against Leeds.

I'm sure I remember the Wrexham game as being 3 sides still.

It sits proudly on display right at the entrance to WHS in Blackburn. It made my weekend.

Four sides open for Wrexham game. Recall seeing a photo in the paper of the whole Wrexham team sat in the Bob Lord watching us in a League game prior to the cup tie. Their star player was David Smallman and he was sat at the front of the team group with Alan Whittle, the former Everton youth team player.

No. Had definitely opened three weeks earlier for the Villa game.

That was a remarkable day winning 1-0 in front of a packed Turf of 35,500 fans, including 12,000 from Wrexham.

The day that Bob Lord banned the cameras and for many years there seemed to be no footage from the game. Then on 15th January 2017 someone started a thread on this messageboard which included a couple of minutes of coverage, including for dougcollins, shots of the inside of the Bob Lord Stand.

Perhaps someone can link the thread, it was titled "Film footage of Burnley v Wrexham, FA Cup 1974.

To a honest was pretty young at the time. I recall a scuffed shot from a hobbling Frank Casper in something like the 80th minute?

I was 16 at the time and I remember the game being pretty dire overall. Casper's scoring shot was heavily deflected and we were very fortunate tbh. It was all pay on the day on the terraces and when I got there there were huge queues. A relative of mine wasn't on the match and was in town and told me the next day that the roar when the ball went in reverberated all through the town and everyone just looked at each other and knew we'd scored.

Another game where both sides wore their 'change' strips that day. No idea why. Frank Casper scored in the 2nd half down at the Beehole End a few minutes after the re-start. It was a poor game,as I recall with the visitors looking for a replay. The pitch,too was very bobbly. Nottm. Forest lost to Newcastle in the same round after three games.....,........... none of which was played at the City Ground!!

From my position in JHL there were more people in there last Saturday V Peterborough than in any other part of the ground.admittedly couldn't see upstairs JH..Despite the bad press on here they are hardcore.

Funny all i can remember of that day is sitting on the top of the wall at the back of the longside where the exits were . I got a push up to get on top then dragged a couple of mates up with me . Not sure how long it lasted as the police used to take us down .
At the end of the game i remember seeing Len Fairclough from Corrie in a Pacer car ( some american import ) on the way out I think he was a Wrexham fan then chaged to the Clarets but cold be wrong .

Peter Adamson, who played the role of Len Fairclough in Coronation St. was a regular at Turf Moor in those days.

I remember Burnley scoring some cracking goals during period when we had newt but green boards on the Brunshaw road

So do I but then again we had some cracking players at the time.
