The genius that was David Bowie
Hard to believe it is now four years since David Bowie passed away.
One of my favourite albums was Aladdin Sane so I've selected a track from there - hope you have TIME to listen to it.

Never really got into Bowie until I first heard Ziggy Stardust.
I can still play it over and over again and never tire, not a bad track on the whole album.

Re: The genius that was David Bowie
It was a tragic loss, without doubt, but in a strange way I rather enjoyed the fact that his music was everywhere.
They even Bowie when we went to Milton Keynes that week and we went a tonked them 5-0 away from home. Sam Vokes got possessed by Lionel Messi after Joey Barton had given them some half time wisdom.

Anyway, here's Oh! You Pretty Things from Hunky Dory

Creative genius. To change his persona and the music that emanated from that character so effortlessly was amazing.

One of the 8-tracks we used to play on the way down. With the cardboard stuck down the side to stop it slipping. Kids today have know idea how lucky they are.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 7:13 pmNever really got into Bowie until I first heard Ziggy Stardust.

Great album that CT - and I love that track.
He did so much good stuff that it’s hard to have a favourite album - mine “changes” (see what I did there) all the time depending on my mood.
There will never be anyone like Bowie again.
It would have been his birthday this week to on Wednesday.
Anyway something from left field from me - the Dutch are cool like this and they love Bowie and Bowie loved Amsterdam.

Preferred his 80's stuff to his earlier stuff.
A talented chap though, if a little weird.

Aladdin Sane is my fave Bowie album. Coincidentally, I'm in the middle of working out the lead guitar break to The Jean Genie, which I've been meaning to learn for years.

I think you are right that it is hard to have a favourite album (although I'll stick with Aladdin Sane) and there won't ever be anyone like him. I used the word genius in the thread title and that's how I think of him. Saw him twice live too.TVC15 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2020 11:15 pmGreat album that CT - and I love that track.

Milton Keynes Bowl - Serious Moonlight Tour - the best live concert I have ever seen to this day.
And Cardiff Arms Park for Glass Spider Tour.
Always thought I would see him one more time - where he would play all his best stuff...but feel lucky to have seen him at all.

My favourite ever Bowie song
I love the album too.
Luther Vandross was a backing singer on the album.
Showed the absolute genius of the man - making an album like this - completely different to anything he had ever done.
He brings out an album like Young Americans in between Diamond Dogs and Station to Station - another 2 brilliant albums in their own right

Re: The genius that was David Bowie
Bowie was about innovation....of trying something else, and not just the music. He wasn’t afraid of reinventing his image and never fell into the trap of “I can’t do that my fans won’t recognise me” (unlike Brian May who thinks his hair is hair trademark). May needs to realise his USP is guitar playing not hairstyle.
Bowie’s music is (mostly) still fresh and instantly recognisable as his.

Got Pin Ups on the original picture disc vinyl - it’s an album of cover versions and not one of my favourites to be honest with the exception of this track which I love and is one of the best cover versions ever made.

Re: The genius that was David Bowie
comparing bowie to brian may's hair in terms of image change is totally irrelevant.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 12:15 amBowie was about innovation....of trying something else, and not just the music. may isn't even remotely considered as a brand, Queen were, and as such he played his part admirably.
