Not seen by the referee but the reason it was disallowed was because of the new handball law brought in by IFAB. Had that law not been introduced, it would have been a goal VAR or no VAR.
Totally agree with you though, that should have been a goal.

you notice Wilder when Sheff Utd scored, hands in his pockets, shrugged his shoulders and walked back to the bench, game is dead
