O/T Any pop gurus from around 2000?

Post by andyh » Fri Jan 10, 2020 11:43 pm

Sorry for something so off topic but I'm desperate.
I've got a part remembered song from around about 2000 and I can't remember the name or the artist.
The song was about a woman thinking a man was a complete ass.
In the video the female singer had short dark hair.
I think it was shot in black and white. It started with her getting into a car. She drives around a bit. Cuts to a carpark. Some thugs. Japanese school girls. All a bit seedy but stylish in a Quentin Tarantino sort of way.
I thought the song was by the Sneaker Pimps... but I cant find it in their back catalogue.
Also my mind just keeps switching to Bad Guy by Billie Eilish so I think there may be something in either the lyrics or the music that is similar.

Please if it rings any bells I would be very grateful for anyone identifying the song. At present it is like an itch I cant scratch.

This is probably a wild punt, but could it be NaNa? Can't find a music video from them but you mentioned Japanese school girls, and they're from Japan and released a few albums around that time. They're also not too dissimilar to Sneaker Pimps (downtempo, indie). Also, you mentioned Billie Eilish, ('bury a friend' is a banger) and like her they have some trip-hop/lo-fi vibes going on. It's probably a wild stab. Was this a popular song? Portishead would probably be too obvious from that realm. (We should probably all go listen to Portishead, anyhow). Subgenre? Country of origin? Was it on the radio, i.e. in the charts?
