How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
We know the next 3 games are tough and we seem to be really struggling to change our fortunes, we still have time to save ourselves, so...
If you were Dyche, what would you do?

Surely replacing Dyche would be the worst of all options right now?

Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
Here are the options
A: stop picking the same players and give the likes of Vydra and Gibson a chance
B: sign new players
C: replace the manager
D: Rinse and repeat the same old crap
My money is on D

I'm just putting it out there? More for the discussion..burnleymik wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 4:39 pmSurely replacing Dyche would be the worst of all options right now?
We need 3 players that'll walk into the starting 11
Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
By making a signing good enough for the first team.

Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
A Sean Dyche side is hardworking, organised and has 100% work rate & commitment week in week out. This side HE has assembled is lacking all these attributes. These attributes need to return or Dyche’s football style/philosophy doesn’t work.

We ain't gonna sign anybody now. We missed the boat in the last few windows. When we finished 7th that was the time and the jan. before when we , and more importantly everyone, knew we were staying up.
We will just have to dig in somehow and then beat those around us. Your team needs you now more then ever.

We have turned bad runs around before though? Will a signing really make enough of a difference to change this?

What would you change it to?
Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
We desperately need investment or we are finished at this level, if we don’t invest this window the only hope is to sack Dyche and pray for a small “new manager bounce”.
Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
It's the tactics, dont think SD is alone in the planning of this...something Has to change. I really want him to turn it around, but the issue with no money and players out of form is very toxic. No idea what he does....

For the people suggesting we spend money, who would you buy and what areas of the team do you prioritise, remembering we are in a relegation battle and we don't want to over-commit?

Freshen up with a new signing or two.
Keep the faith, there are more then enough chances to get the the points.

Haha. love the optimism, but the championship looks bloody tough and many of the top teams already have larger wage budgets than we do in the Prem. I worry that if we fall coming back up is not a given, by any means.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 10:57 pmDrop down .

Can someone tell SD that its a WINNING team you don't change. When you lose 6 in 8 then its often a good decision to review your weakest players. After all he keeps telling us he now has a competitive squad

Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
There is only one option and that is to fight our way out.
It shocks me how fans can turn on a manager, but at Burnley of all clubs, I thought a little more sense might prevail.
Who got us here ?
He is restricted by what his employers are prepared to give him , and he has to get on with it.
How anyone can slate him for team selections and substitutions is a joke, he is the one who made all the right moves that enabled us to be playing football in this division in the first place.

Make them watch the video of how Southampton beat Leicester today. Their energy and desire will shame the tepid displays we've served up in recent months.
If all the money has genuinely ran out and we can't afford a signing, our best hope of survival now is to get the players back to giving 100% each and every game. The coaching must improve too in order to get us playing without fear again, because our players look absolutely terrified and fearful when they have the ball at their feet and they panic, resulting in a shocking amount of needless turn-overs and mistakes.

What position do you prioritise and suggestions for players? I suppose it's easy for us to say "new signings", but where are players that we can afford and are good enough to improve our starting 11?Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 10:59 pmFreshen up with a new signing or two.

Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
Effort and attitude, this is one thing that can change and best of all it doesn't cost any money.
I think our good start to the season gave us a false sense of security and lead to some complacency,
Week 13 we were 7th with 18 points on the board and several teams who looked an utter shambles. Easy to see how players and maybe manager though 'we've got this' and collectively took the foot of the gas a little, be in effort, tactically preparing for teams etc.

Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
If I had to choose I’d say right back and centre mid.burnleymik wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 11:01 pmWhat position do you prioritise and suggestions for players? I suppose it's easy for us to say "new signings", but where are players that we can afford and are good enough to improve our starting 11?
Obviously other areas need addressing but I’d prioritise those.
I’d take anything at moment to be fair, we seem very stale and need shaking up.
Although depending on Barnes fitness I’d maybe change the second one.
In terms of who do we sign and for how much, we are paying people a lot of money for that. Over to them.

Just as the previous decade or two, regardless of division.
Still moaning about that "off side", still grumpy after a tubbing, still disproportionately giddy after a win.
I'll still be a claret.
Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
The current squad couldn’t get promoted from the Championship. They’ve no character whatsoever. Over a 46 game Championship season the likes of Taylor, Tarks, Cork, Lennon, JBG, McNeill wont have the ******** to do what Keane, Duff, Arfield, Boyd, Marney, Jones did. There’s also the complete lack of pace both Ings and Gray gave us.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 10:57 pmDrop down .

Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
Spot on I said the same at the time. We were definitely staying up let's spend some money in Jan and get some players in so they would.be ready for the next season . Instead we got lennon and nukudo. Missed opportunity . We finished 7th which was amazing we could of finished higher with a few new signingssummitclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 4:49 pmWe ain't gonna sign anybody now. For the few people that think sacking Dyche is the solution the majority know we will be in our natural position in league 1 in 2 years

We can’t.
It’s been fun, up until the last 6-12 months, but there you go.

Watched the match today, it was like every other game we've played this season.
Remember when we were renowned for running and movement? I doubt we did 10k between the ******* team today.
Dyche needs to go, his negativity is holding what is a half decent set of players back.

Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
Need some fresh faces and fast. To stay up we need goals. We have 3 strikers-Vydra is just not in SD's plans. Then take out Barnes with his groin op, and Wood if he has broken his nose is a doubt v Leicester and no guarantee Jay 's virus will have gone
Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
Keep on playing the most awful tedious style of football ever seen at the Turf and eventualy bore the opposition into submission?

You're making an assumption that we would start next season with the "current" squad.
Why not wait and see how things pan out?
You never know, we may still be in the premier league.....
Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
30 million in transfer fees alone on Gibson, Vydra and Wells, before you even get started on the wages. Hart and Drinkwater probably on 50 grand a week each, to say he's not had any backing is simply not true.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 11:00 pmThere is only one option and that is to fight our way out.

Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
I have a theory that the club had saved up all the money from all prowler league seasons and put it into Thomas cook and mothercare shares. It’s the only to explain how we now don’t have a pot to **** in and can’t even afford to reduce fa cup prices by £2.50. We must be deep in our overdraft Shocking mismanagement of the club either way to have apparently no money left to sign even one player. The current board and chairmen really are hopeless and are destroying all of Kilbys previous good hard work.
Take a good look at Bolton now because I think that’s the way we will be heading i this next decade and that isn’t even a joke. I genuinely do fear it.

Take Leeds, Fulham and WBA out of the Championship (I expect at least Leeds and WBA will go up), and I don't think it looks tough at all, to be fair.burnleymik wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 10:59 pmHaha. love the optimism, but the championship looks bloody tough and many of the top teams already have larger wage budgets than we do in the Prem. The side we have now, with no new investment I think would be more than capable of bouncing back up.
I guess the question would be who we can keep hold of.
Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
Going to be difficult to bring people in now
With the Championship wide open it's highly unlikely any decent team will let players go
Loans from top Prem clubs may be an option but, given SD's record of not playing them, that's also a tough ask
Still 16 games left, 9 against teams we can beat with the right attitude/tactics/desire

Re: How can we stop this downward spiral and survive this season?
The side we have now are too old for the marathon which is the Championship. Aging squads lead to niggles and injury, look how many niggles we have in our squad on a weekly basis, and that when they're not asked to play 46 games.
