Pope - 5 - Mistake for goal, kicking poor again.
Lowton - 4 - Not good enough anymore. We need a right back desperately
Taylor - 6 - Did ok. Not as much diving around as usual.
Tarks - 6 - Some good tackles but also some sloppy stuff.
Mee - 6 - OK
Lennon - 5 - Potential, but end product lacking. Are his boots too tight?
Cork - 3 - The treacle is getting thicker, and his balance has clearly gone. Needs an air bag for when he falls.
Westwood - 4 - Huffed around, but he lacked composure today.
Mcneil - 7 - Some bright sparks at times, our only creative outlet, again.
Hendrick - 5 - He's just not quite up to it.
Wood -4 - Hooter issues might have effected his touch, but he hasn't got one.

Brilliant summation, particularly the Wood quip - nearly spit my brew out when I got to it. :D

Totally agree with Hendrick. I was stunned when he came off other than it was his position we were changing. Westwood or Cork would have come off for me.

First half was better than we have seen recently. Why VAR didn't count Abraham's leg baffles me or we would have gone 1 up. And Willian manufactures contact for the penalty but Lowton is a dick for diving in. That aside, another poor display and we got what we deserved. A big fat nowt.

Pope - 5 - some fair saves but the 2nd goal is the killer

Lowton - 4 - bereft of confidence and whether we got screwed by VAR or not, he had no reason whatsoever to go to ground for the penalty.
Tarks - 6
Mee -7 - towering header for Hendrick’s “goal” and generally did ok.
Taylor - 5

Lennon -3 - should be nowhere near the starting XI
Cork - 4 - if he starts in Feb we’re in trouble
Westwood -4
Hendrick -6
McNeil -7 - without him our creativity falls to zero.

Wood - 5 - clearly hurt and a thankless task

As again, it’s not the defeat it’s the manner of it. Other teams have recently given Chelsea problems. Not us. We roll over and seem to accept defeat I don’t see anyone on the field leading and demanding more. Just go thru the motions submission.

Re the bench - 2 back up centre-halves and 2 back up full backs. There is our attacking intent. If Wells could not be recalled than one of the U23 strikers should have been called up.

Re the subs - 3 down and he brings Vydra on at 73 mins. I just don’t get it. I would have started Vydra and put Hendrick in for the pedestrian Cork - at least have some desire to attack.

We’re in trouble and I don’t see this rot stopping soon. It is imperative that we stop shipping goals from right back and that the seasons-old issue of central midfield is finally addressed.

Hendrick looked like our only chance of scoring. He had an early sighter which he should have done better with and had the ball in the back of the net only for it to be ruled out for marginal offside (not his fault). I don’t always like Hendrick but thought he was the pick of the midfield today, albeit the bar wasn’t set particularly high by his teammates.

That early sighter was a lot more difficult than I thought when I saw it again.

Some very harsh Mark's here. Yes they got the better of us but it could have been so different, had the officialdom not conspired against us and Pope not gifted one.

Pope 6 He made a couple of excellent stops other than his howler.
Lowton 5 silly lunge but he stopped and the rest is a cheat which should have been overruled for deliberately pushing his leg into Lowton. Until officials and pundits get their heads in gear for right and wrong, football is doomed.
Tarkowski 6
Mee 6
Taylor 6
Lennon 6
Westwood 6
Cork 6
McNeil 7
Hendrick 7
Wood 6

Good goal disallowed.
Pope error.
Cheat pen
Offside for 3rd.

Pope 5 his better saves came after the damage was dine
Lowton 4 really poor from him, the game was gone in that moment of madness
Tarkowski 5 for such a big lad he's quite weak in the air
Mee 7
Taylor 6
Lennon 5
Westwood 4
Cork 4 him being undroppable is a major issue
McNeil 6 cant remember his last decent game
Hendrick 6
Wood 5

Didnt expect anything different in terms of result, but doubt Chelsea will cruise to an easier victory.

Results again gone against us, it's starting to turn into a 6 team mini league, and theres a few teams getting their act together.

Pope 6 some good saves and 2nd goal just fractionally wrong footed looked worse than it was .
Lowton 4 unlucky with pen but dead man walking
Mee 6 does what he does
Tarks 6 steady but I thought sloppy in the air
Taylor 6 steady in the face of a rampaging left side
Lennon 6 odd hints of former glories
Hendrick 6 + 1 for var “goal “ awful passing but he never gives up
Cork 4 pains me but he’s shot at this level
Westwood 6 limited but great corner and did what he could
McNeill 7 as ever almost our own creative outlet
Wood 5 took a nasty knock on the snout and always seemed a yard off .

We weren’t THAT bad and the var and the pen hammered us after a really positive spell when Tarky was blatantly elbowed and nowt given

Results again gone against us,
Which?
Generally a very good weekend for us so far as rivals results are concerned.
Norwich, Bournemouth and Villa all lost heavily, and WHU also lost, and Brighton and Newcastle only got a point apiece.
Don't think we could have hoped for much better than that.
(Very rare that all 6 of your rivals only pick up 2 points out of 18)

Pope 5 couple of decent saves and catches but faulty for Abraham goal & distribution in the first half hour was poor (two kicks straight out to the left.
Lowton 4 did some steady work in the 90 but started the rot with the foolish slide tackle inside the area- brought the house crashing down.
Mee 6 generally did Ok with headers/positioning/blocks etc.
Tarks 5 shoul've done better v Abraham; Abraham is a tall awkward customer but Tarks is a big strong lad and should've provided him with a harder task in aerial duels.
Taylor 6 just about held his head above water defensively but couldnt get forward much.
Lennon 7 not in line with other opinion but I thought he did some of our best work in attack re stretching their defenders a bit & also helped out well in defence on many occasions.
Cork 5 a few decent things and tried hard as usual but a bit overwhelmed.
Westwood 6 just about held his own against a good opposition midfield.
McNeil 6 posed a threat but his one-footedness was problematic + he was a bit slack covering for their 3rd.
Hendrick 7 Very busy and got onto a lot of 2nd balls (mostly from Wood) + got the "goal"
Wood 5 won a good number of headers/lay-offs for Hendrick and kept going but limited when the ball was on the ground.

We started off Ok (and unlucky not to get the 1st goal) but as soon as we conceded with that silly challenge from Lowton, it never looked like we'd get back in. Genuine confidence seeped away- although we kept at it for a long period against a decent team.
Just too many defensive errors in our game at the moment, we have to find a way to get back to the greater solidity that we've shown for much of the past few seasons.

Not on long enough to mark but Vydra (for all the crowd support when warming up and coming on) but showed nowt when he was the fresh-legs option.

Enjoyed my 90 minute tour of Brompton cemetery before the game more than the match.

Pope 4 - needs some time on the bench to get his head re-focused
Taylor 6
Mee 7
Tarks 6
Lowton 3 - why is 3 the lowest we can give ? Completely lost his way with us unfortunately
Cork 4
Westwood 5
Lennon 4
McNeil 6
Hendrick 6
Wood 6

Utterly desperate for some new faces in the starting 11

You also forgot to mention Southampton unexpectedly winning at Leicester or maybe you don't consider them to be 1 of the relegation candidates, I agree though other results weren't that bad for us considering.

Correct. Southampton are a much better team than us and playing well. Unless something goes badly wrong there, (e.g. Ings gets injured) then they should finish mid-table along with Watford. (if they were to beat Wolves at home this weekend then they could be up to 8th.)
Realistically (IMO), it's Norwich and one of 6 to go down. Of those 7 the only team to pick up a point at the weekend were Newcastle. (They have shocking injury list, and other than playing Norwich at home, their next month's fixtures are very tough).

Despite the improvement, any team that ships 9 goals in a single match must be considered, looking at the league table from Everton downwards, I think Newcastle, West ham & Southampton will be OK & any 2 from that section, I think Norwich are gone.

Burnley, Watford, Newcastle and Southampton ;)

Not a terrible weekend to be fair, fortunately a couple of those down there played some big teams, and/or were away next weekends fixtures should give a fairer reflection.

Just hope we can pull off a shock Sunday, Leicester arent in great form, a win would be massive.
This weekend its

Brighton v Villa
Norwich v Bournemouth
West Ham v Everton
Burnley v Leicester

It will all get very tight I think after this weekend, a win for us, and 2 draws in them 6 pointers would be great!

Despite the improvement, any team that ships 9 goals in a single match must be considered,
Depends how long ago. Arguably it was Southampton's most significant result of the season. They haven't really looked back since.
(Rather like our Everton Boxing day debacle last season)

Pope -4 - Second goal very disappointing. Who is he aiming the kicks at ?
Lowton - 3 - RB needed urgently
Tarkowski - 5
Mee 6
Taylor 5
Lennon 4 - Would rather have 47 year old Graham Branch
Westwood 5
Cork 5 - On the decline alarmingly
McNeil 7 - Only creative spark
Hendrick 7
Wood 6

Vydra 5 - Really didn't look interested

There’s probably 40,000 to 50,000 reasons a week why he should be though !

I wouldn't be particularly interested if I was Vydra.

What I do find hard to understand is why he only gets a chance when we are absolutely forced. I have always been impressed when I have seen glimpses.
