Our new RB
We could do far worse than slot Jeff Hendrick in there.
Every time he plays the wide position he defends well in 1on1s. He has fast feet. He also has the energy for getting up and down the pitch and can pass.
I know some will moan that we are losing our best number 10 but it’s a price worth paying.
For those that don’t get sarcasm ignore the last sentence.

I think hes off TT,he reads this board 90% of our support hates him,he wont sign a new contract, look s like there will be more chance Lowton will be tried in the no10 role than the other way round.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 9:19 amWe could do far worse than slot Jeff Hendrick in there.

Kieran must be getting fed up of foreign food by now so can I suggest SD gets on the phone straight away.

Re: Our new RB
Has anyone got football manager who can sim that for us?
Re: Our new RB
Holy sh-it - I know everyone is entitled to an opinion but you have got to wonder where some of this stuff comes from.
Jeff will often over run the ball trying to take on too many men - he has plenty of attributes but I have never seen anything from him which suggests these are defensive. To add to that he’s neither got pace and rarely seen him cross a ball either - other than that he’d make a perfect right back !!
Lennon might be a “last resort” option with the way he plays now - he’s a decent tackler, tough and would be use to the overlap - he’s not as quick as he used to be but still probably our quickest player. Whether he could do as good a job as Bardsley I’m not so sure but he could not be worse than Lowts right now.
Either way it’s probably a moot debate as could not see Dyche doing anything like this

Re: Our new RB
Mee started as a right back move him across and play Long as CH.

Re: Our new RB
In fairness to the opening post I had the same thought but not brave enough to post. I think Bardsley is our best defensive right back and is vocal at the back (which we lack if he is out), but Jeff I think has the attributes to step in
I am assuming he is not extending his contract though

Re: Our new RB
What attributes do you think he has to play right back ?

Re: Our new RB
Nah i like Hendrick on the right, tucking in to a midfield 3 to let Mcneill roam on the left
Re: Our new RB
Do right back's still tackle?
Re: Our new RB
So does a kangaroo - good in the air I accept !
Re: Our new RB
I think hendrick has done a good job on the right but I think we need someone who will take on the full back and get the ball in the box, with having only one outlet in mcneil it's easy for the opposition to double up on him so two wingers might just stop us playing hoof ball
Re: Our new RB
Time for 3 at the back with Wing Backs for me.

I understand the words 'Hendrick' and 'right back' but can't for the life of me imagine them in the same sentence.

Re: Our new RB
I too have wondered about the (otherwise pretty much useless) Lennon going to right back, but fear he's too small and would be constantly targeted and out jumped with high balls to the back stick. (This used to happen to Trips too tbh)
Re: Our new RB
Apparently that's more than some of our midfield supposedly have

Re: Our new RB
Can Bikey still do a job in midfield? Or Elliott in centre mid?
Re: Our new RB
If we had a overlapping full back it might be worth leaving hendrick on the right side of midfield but hendrick to play full back i don't think would work, that lad bogle from Derby could be the answer
Re: Our new RB
Hendrick is lucky he plays mid never mind RB
Re: Our new RB
I’d play Rocky there rather than the bloke who played there on Saturday

Re: Our new RB
Crazy the way some people believe players can suddenly learn how to play a specialised position they've never played before whilst playing against some of the best wide men in the world.
RB (as well as having to learn to hold pattern with the other back3 outfield players) has to cope with the likes of Willian, Sterling, Mane, Martial, Zaha etc.
Lowton is struggling at the moment but Hendrick would struggle more, the bloke is willing and has played a few roles for us but RB is a step (or two) too far.

Well Ashley Young switched from winger to full back and it worked well for him.TVC15 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 9:58 amHoly sh-it - I know everyone is entitled to an opinion but you have got to wonder where some of this stuff comes from.

Re: Our new RB
Yep but Hendrick isn’t a winger either...he sometimes plays out wide but do you see him crossing a ball or combining with his full back / overlapping etc ?
There are a few full backs who started off as wingers and they can adapt because often they are one footed and also they have a bit of pace and can cross a ball. In this day and age especially many teams play with full backs pushing up like wingers...look at the lad who is playing for Young now - Brandon Williams - he gets to the bi-line more times than most wingers.

Re: Our new RB
Neco Williams young Liverpool RB who was in the team that beat Everton, has impressed me. Difficult to see him getting past Alexander-Arnold in the short term.
Is there a possibility he could be available on loan. Perhaps a bit young and could he adapt to our style of play?
