Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
Don't know if anyone caught the analytic view on Hendrick done in the commentary done $hit for brains Sheringham and i want to single him out his statement was in his words that for what Burnley paid for the lad Hendrick they certainly haven't had their money's worth from him
Now agree with him or not its very mix views in our camp to but i know what i think

He's right. We haven't. 13m is a big fee for Burnley to pay. He's an average player that we will lose for free.Longside4evr wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 3:08 pmDon't know if anyone caught the analytic view on Hendrick done in the commentary done $hit for brains Sheringham and i want to single him out his statement was in his words that for what Burnley paid for the lad Hendrick they certainly haven't had their money's worth from him

Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
Therein lays the problem when you have to pay £13m for an average player. Market forces dictated a huge uplift in his value, he wasn't any better than when he was valued at about £3.5m.
Now look at how many players some on here think we should be flinging £20m+ at in order to see if they are good enough...

115 apps...9 goals and many of them winners. He’s been worth every penny if he leaves for nowt. As he barely plays the same position for more than 5 games ont’trot he has been abused but never complains.

He's done well for us overall - still hoping we can do a deal to extend his stay.

Even if he was 13 million quid that's not much these days. I'd say we've got our money's worth out of him, 4 decent seasons covering a number of positions for us.

Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
I think he has done well for us. Played in several positions and scored important goals.
He never liked playing that no 10 role and said as much in an interview with the Irish media. I think that unfortunately tainted a lot of fans views on him which I don’t think is fair on Jeff as it’s not his game to be playing in that role and if you do not have the attributes you can end up looking like a chicken with no head as you are trying to get yourself into a game by picking up flick ons, finding pockets etc
When he has played the positions he’s preferred like most of our players he’s had very good spells and spells where his form has dipped.
He got sent off in one match in the first few minutes (was it Watford away ?)...in the lead up to that game for a number of games he was brilliant - by far our best player. He got a 3 game ban and when he came back he didn’t pick up that great form - but that is the same for all our players. If they were consistently great they would not cost £13m and they would not be playing for us for very long.
Our great form after the big Everton defeat last year - Jeff played a big part in that in his wide midfield role.
I think there are times when he should have played instead of Jack Cork or Westwood and he should have been given more of a chance to hold down a CM role.
He’s been a good signing - he’s definitely contributed to our success and he’s hardly ever been injured too which is a massive plus when we have had Defour, JBG, Brady and Lennon all injured a hell of a lot in last 3 years. To be able to bring in a player like Jeff to fill those places and still stay up in the Premier League I’m not sure how you anyone can say he has not been worth his price.
I hope he signs but don’t think he will...partly because he is often the scapegoat with the fans and the manager too when we hit poor runs of form.

Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
It's the same old rubbish that used to be spouted about Boyd and, quite a few years ago, Geoff Nulty.
I do wish those that can't actually be bothered to spend time studying the role of a player for any length of time would shut up.

I took the word great more as a description of his versatility, the fact he has been rarely injured and played so many positions etc....rather than he is a “true great” type play.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 4:11 pmHe might turn out to be a good player for us or another club.
But I can't associate the word great with him.
A great has to be at least the best player in the team.
I don’t think anyone is saying he will go down as a legend of the club !

Double his fee and we got Vydra and Gibson for that sum
You can analyse all your buys for value for money. What you need to bear in mind is the number of points his goals have secured us. His versatilty has prevented the need to buy an additional player or two. Personally with the Westwood/Cork partnership going through a poor spell he has been unlucky not to have been played in CM recently. Unfortunately he could go to a club that really bring the best out of him. Hope he stays

His value is in his ability to be something of a utility man. He’s not the best player by any means but he’s a great asset to the squad as a whole.

Hendrick obviously divides opinion. He's scored the odd brilliant goal but for me, not stamped his authority or influenced games enough. Personally I'd take Scott Arfield over Hendrick any day of the week and we got him on a free.

He’s done well for us.
He’s in that weird position on here where some go over the top with criticism which leads others to go over the top with praise.
He’s done well in a very successful period for the club, he’ll take some replacing.

The problem we have is he, we are to soft in midfield we need a governor in an hard man a dictator we are crying out for one
Jeff as been a good servant and done everything asked win rate when in the team far out weighs when not
How can someone who never as had connections with our say a pathetic view like that
Say what they want but goal that was scored at Everton is the best goal i have ever ever seen scored by a burnley team, and i have seen some good ones make of this what you want but for that moment a lone
Could you imagine if Aguero had scored that one they'd still be showing now

He’s been a decent utility midfielder. Doesn’t excel at anything in particular enough to nail down a starting berth when everyone is fit, but he’s contributed plenty during his time with us.

Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
Hendrick has had the shitty end of the stick when it comes to playing for us.
He's filled in most everywhere, which is probably why SD, and I, like him.
When you are used as a Jack of all trades it's harder to shine, than in a single position.
His form is up and down, but that goes with the role he is asked to play.
I can see why some don't take to him, but I'm sure we would struggle to find equivalent replacement.

He’s done ok. Some good games and some not. He’s certainly not been an excellent signing.
Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
I would value Scott Arfield and George Boyd above all others bar Stephen Defour and Joey Barton.
Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
We got money's worth for those goals but time to move him on
But then again he might be ok in the championship for us

There's been two occasions when my mate and I were saying how useless he's been only for him to go and score within the next five minutes! I mean that's really annoying and makes us look silly. :-}

Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
I struggled with the same problem, until I read the article on recycling the ball. Hendrick never played as a no10, his sole purpose was to win the loose balls, second balls, and maintain the pressure. Once you got your head around that his performances took on a whole new light.dougcollins wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 8:04 pmThere were times when I couldn't fully work out what he was up to and I'm not sure he could either.

They’ll be some cracking threads to come after games this season if he doesn’t sign a new contract.
He’s not interested, he doesn’t want to get injured to scupper his pay day etc etc

Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
He’s been a good player for us and has had a bit of a raw deal to be honest.
I’d certainly have him in his supposedly most natural position, centre midfield, ahead of Cork.

I don't think some on here realise the amount of work he gets through at times. All they see is the missed pass or goal opportunity. I hope he signs, this type of player are not easy to find within our budget.

Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
I'd sooner have Jeff stay and Cork leave going off this season's performances.
When McNeill is inevitably sold and we are stuck with a multitude of injury prone wingers, we will need Hendrick, be that in the Premier League or Championship. A half decent Premier League player costs £30 million before wages these days, and even then there's no guarantee they will gel to the league/club.
Life is short, there's more important things to worry about. Just support the club and the players. UTC!

Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
He is our club record signing for a midfielder and thats been the problem in this area
we haven't really spent well in this area off recent memory
Hendrick from Derby 10.5 m looking like no resale
Cork from Swansea 5 m rising with add ons this will be a free
Defour from Anderlecht 8 m free
JBG Charton 3 m could command a fee
Lennon Everton 1 m free no resale
Westwood Villa 4 m free no resale unlikely
This pot is over 4 seasons 38.5 million works out at 9.5 mil a season per midfield and wingers
When you consider we had to strengthen when we came up its peanuts
Edited now so on figures on out lay basically what i said

Also was cork no 10m with add ons?

& therein lies Jeff's problem, he's not going to be the midfield enforcer/hard man when he's too accommodating to SD by filling in wherever he's needed. Paul Madeley had the same problem at Leeds, too nice to ask the manager for a fixed position in the team & never fulfilled his potential, a hard midfielder would be hard-nosed with the manager too. Do you think SD would have asked Barton to fill in on the right wing?
He doesn't seem to have the physical presence for a 2-man midfield as his tackling is only average at best
Wasn't Cork £8/9m btw?

could be right but i was told that we paid an initial payment of 5 m but could be same as the Rodriguez deal
Burnley have signed midfielder Jack Cork from Swansea City for a fee which could rise to £10m with add-ons.

Just done some digging and the reported fee for Westwood was undisclosed by the club.
So speculation of value is unclear but by all accounts if this is to be true it must be the best deal Burnley ever pulled off
Westwood signed on a four-year deal with the Birmingham based club for a fee believed to be around £2 million.

Re: Big Bold Statement Made At Hendrick Saturday
He to be is the perfect example of a confidence player who showed his best when Defour was in the team and we played some great passing football. The issue at times is when he is out of form he can at times go “hiding” last year a couple of games he wouldn’t demand the ball and concentrated on his defensive game when he really can be effective going forward.
Hopefully he will sign his new contract but if he doesn’t and we stay up it will show that we are in a new era as a club where our “big money” buys will start leaving for a free or low fees and all this needs factoring in with potential new buys.
This year and next will be tricky for us in the number of players coming to the end of contracts
