Proof that Ben Stokes reads the forum and takes things on board.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 3:27 pm224-4 at the close.
England probably just edge it.
Go big tomorrow.

No reason we can't start thinking near the 500 mark.
Stokes had a let off, and he's punished them big time, these 2 look fantastic cant wait to settle down to watch after lunch,

Stokes gone for 120, he was getting a bit inventive, it was only a matter of time.

Excellent 200 stand between Pope & Stokes. Obviously Stokes was the top man but Pope has played very well too. I hope he gets his ton (if somebody else can stick around with him- I have to add now with Butler's departure).

I remember having a debate with TY about Buttler, whilst I don't doubt he is capable of being world class, he is far to inconsistent for Test Cricket even if he does often end up batting with the tail.

Perfect scenario for Buttler today but yet again he fluffed his linesBurnley1989 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 12:09 pmI remember having a debate with TY about Buttler, whilst I don't doubt he is capable of being world class, he is far to inconsistent for Test Cricket even if he does often end up batting with the tail.

Loads of runs on the board, no pressure, you could semi understand him getting caught smashing the spinner all over, he just offered it him back, a nothing shot.Local cricketer wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 12:10 pmPerfect scenario for Buttler today but yet again he fluffed his lines
Should still get past 400, then its another psychological milestone
Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Ben Foakes has been very hard done to I think. He's our best keeper by far, and I'd probably fancy him to get more runs than Bairstow or Buttler long term as well.

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Could maybe see them giving Foakes the gloves in Sri Lanka as he’s the best keeper by far.
It was a shame he struggled with the bat in the Championship last season as he may have nailed down the place already otherwise.
Feel like with Buttler and Bairstow being the ‘chosen ones’, Foakes has got to do something special to get in the side regularly.

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
499/9 declared.
Pope - 135*
Really entertaining knock from Wood who will now open the bowling I would have thought.
1.5hrs to ball at SA under the lights, be niece to get them 2-3 down

Very entertaining at the end there- unless you are a SA fan/player. Rabada has not had the best of days with the disciplinary judgement and some serious tap towards the end.

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Many variables against the punter, declaration like that being one of them. Why on earth would you declare at 499? It is bizzare and unfair on the thousands of punters worldwide.

Great day for us.
Pivotal wicket in the last over, and fair play to the lad for walking, the umpire looked like he wasnt moving.

In fairness they declared when Wood was out, and did not want to trouble Broad with facing a ball or two when he is due to open the bowling

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Ive never seen a declaration reversal before. No idea what the rules are but presumably allowed because of the umpire missing the no ball (before a replay showed it was a NB) and thus a dismal reversal. I'm guessing it can only happen if the batsmen haven't left the playing area????

Anything that happens after the no ball is irrelevant.LeadBelly wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 4:46 pmIve never seen a declaration reversal before. Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Small crowd today, locals handed out SA flags to get more input after we smashed 499. Big crowd expected on Saturday. Only one clarets flag on show.

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Great day for England, proper test match batting from Stokes and Pope, and Dom Bess will be the key on this slow pitch which is offering turn already.
It's amazing how scoreboard pressure can affect the side batting 2nd,England were smashing the ball to all parts against a tiring attack and the ball barely swung,as soon as England come to bowl they found movement straight away.

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
113/5 at lunch, resumption delayed due to rain,so you might not miss much action, all 5 wickets to Bess, just hope the weather doesn't hinder England's victory charge,it might make Root consider enforcing the follow-on,i know most captains opt not to enforce these days, but time will come into the equation if these delays continue.
Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
SA close on 208/6 and trail by 291
Stokes drops the danger man De Kock in the penultimate over, that's 3 from him
England will have to enforce the follow on to win from here youd feel

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Fantastic start to the morning session
Both De Kock and Philander clean bowled in the opening 2 overs, no better sight than the wickets csrtwheeling back.
SA need 92 more to avoid the follow on

Edit 208/9
3 gone in the first 3 overs.
Broad 2, Curran 1
Not sure What SA have done, theyve come out swinging, very, very loose

All done and dusted inside 5 overs, Broad again
SA 209 all out
I'd follow on here, balls doing bits, we are fresh, and SA in disarray

4 wickets for 1 run. Enjoyed that!
Not sure the weathers great today and I’ve experienced the electric storms in PE and they’re like nothing else I’ve seen.
Should win it from here though if we can get the overs in

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Weird batting from SA this morning, they were never going to win this game, but they had a fair chance of saving it,especially with the weather delays.
Had to enforce the follow on,and it's not like England have toiled for their wickets, plus the one advantage with the constant stoppages is the bowlers can refresh before their next spell.
Just hope this weather clears, that's England's biggest obstacle ATM.
