South Afica v England 3rd test
Starts tomorrow at 8am GMT seems that Wood gets the nod over Jofra. Can only see a England victory in Port Elizabeth and Joberg.
As a side note I have it on good authority that the South African skipper is signing for Lancs as a kolpak after the current series

He was at Lancs about 10 year ago too wasn't he?Local cricketer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 7:57 pmStarts tomorrow at 8am GMT seems that Wood gets the nod over Jofra. Can only see a England victory in Port Elizabeth and Joberg.

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Id be inclined to drop Broad too and play Wood and Archer.
Its going to be a flat pitch i would assume at PE, so unless we hit the deck harder than them when bowling, I can only see a draw here.

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Archer's injured hence why Wood's been called up due to his extra pace,i certainly wouldn't drop Broad,we'll need his experience to guide the younger bowlers, and Jimmy's already missing.
In normal circumstances i'd give the draw a good shout, but both these sides are shaky with the bat,and their strength is probably in the bowling department.

This coming season will probably be the last for kolpak contracts, they're not going to be possible after Brexit.

117-2 at tea. South Africa trying to bore out the English batsman here keeping runs to a minimum.

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Stokes needs to do what he seems to find himself having to do in every test match at the moment!
Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
100/1 and cruising to 148/4
It's very slow, soon as you think someone's in and might kick on they're back in the hut.
More depth to our batting though with this side, but it might be needed with the loss of bowlers.

If we can close today at 230 ish/4 with these 2 it's been a good day, these have picked up the pace slightly, and certainly a score to build on tomorrow.
Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Sounds like a horrible pitch, not much in it for anyone apart from maybe the spinners.

224-4 at the close.
England probably just edge it.
Go big tomorrow.

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Great from those 2 there, saw the day out which was what was needed.
Can both go big tomorrow now, and no reason we cant put a big score on the board, and give the bowlers a score to play freely with.
Sets up a good weekend of cricket anyway.

Looks set to be another good test match, I thought England batted well today, on another day we'd have collapsed and closed on 150/7

Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
I hear this was the 6th toss in a row that Faf has lost; that's dash poor luck, especially if this pitch deteriorates.
SA bowled pretty well today, it looked a bit dodgy for England when the 4th went down but Stokes and Pope did very well to see it through and even increase the rate of scoring.
England still need to work hard tomorrow and not try and force it too much but 350+ should be a distinct possibility (fingers crossed firmly stating that). Then bowling well would put the pressure on a side who have batting problems of their own.
I had a few chores this morning and missed the first session but I'll be in front of the TV at 08.00 tomorrow to see how this develops.

Steady start from England this morning, partnership approaching 100,and yet another 50 for Stokes.let's make sure we bat for as long as possible today, the pitch can only get worse so we have to take advantage of winning the toss.

An over- exuberant celebration of clean bowling Root.

Yes you are right, but he hasn't been banned just for that particular incident, it's a culmination of things that he has done in the recent past. There is a totting up of what I believe are called demerit points, this is why he has been banned.

Yes he's got the ban because it's Rabada's fourth demerit point within two years.Local cricketer wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:17 amHe has plenty off previous though so totting up procedure I think
Big blow for them, and can only be a lift for England.50 for Pope now, surely he's cemented his place at nr 6.
Re: South Afica v England 3rd test
Definitely due to the totting up procedure as I saw little wrong with the celebration of Root's wicket. Blimey, I can think of a number of players in the CLL back in the day who wouldn't have played much if that was the benchmark for abuse!
