Ipswich Town - Winding Up Petition
Ipswich are the latest club to be served a winding up petition served by HMRC.
The price of doing things the wrong way.
See Derby are expecting a 21 point punishment for breaking FFP rules too.
That's also the price of doing things the wrong way.

This isn’t going to stop until it is an immediate 2 league relegation.
I say 2 league because some of them may be going down anyway and would suffer no consequence.

Re: Ipswich Town - Winding Up Petition
How sustainable is football outside of the top tier though? How many of the 72 football league clubs are running at a profit?

The rest of the rugby premiership owners have had enough on the dodgy deals from Saracens and are now looking to have them automatically relegated never mind the points deduction
It's about time football owners like Steve Gibson (who raised the Derby issue) are backed to get clubs like those mentioned above hurt hard
Not only to penalise them but also as a warning to future misdemeanors

People imply that there are two extremes. Spend and it’s this.
There’s a balance.
Not spending. Not investing. And not shouting about ourselves while our stock is the highest it’s ever been globally is almost as negligent.

Fake news it may be, but this is going to happen more often.
You could add half the PL clubs which are not profitable without sugar daddy chairmen.
Re: Ipswich Town - Winding Up Petition
The thing is, do you really need to be profitable? Does it make any difference on the pitch being in profit?boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 7:53 pmFake news it may be, but this is going to happen more often.

Is it better to have money in the bank and a crap team or a good team full of saleable assets but running at a loss?

The question really should be "do you really need to be sustainable?" I would argue yes

We are a small town though. And no sugar daddy to buy us Titles. I'd suggest being sustainable is imperative.

Is it better to be Burnley now or Bolton ten years ago? Well, we don't know where Burnley will be in 10 years. But I'd go for money in the bank rather than on heavily in debt and running at a loss. The problem with running at a loss is that sooner or later, the people you borrwoed money from will want it back.
Re: Ipswich Town - Winding Up Petition
Well then, the warning couldn’t be more obvious:
Don’t get relegated.
Don’t get relegated.

Wouldn’t be the first time Ipswich have let their creditors down

I'd say that TV money is there for the benefit of TV companies, not football clubs.

Dyche quickly corrected it in an interview after the 81m appeared in the accounts.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 11:57 pm£81 million was our wage bill last time out wasn't it?
£81 MILLION!
58 was his claim. The rest bonuses for 7th place.
Re: Ipswich Town - Winding Up Petition
What exactly is the difference between saying we paid the staff £81m, and saying that we paid the staff £58m plus £23m in bonuses? Dyche added a bit more information to what we already knew, and that extra info is helpful to assess the following year figure, but it makes no difference to the statement that we spent £81m on wages.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 12:11 amDyche quickly corrected it in an interview after the 81m appeared in the accounts.

Re: Ipswich Town - Winding Up Petition
For the dross on the pitch we certainly aren’t getting our moneys worth out of that £81m which is my real issue, for such a stubborn skint prudent club we don’t half throw money away like confetti.dsr wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 12:27 amWhat exactly is the difference between saying we paid the staff £81m, and saying that we paid the staff £58m plus £23m in bonuses? Re: Ipswich Town - Winding Up Petition
You only have to look at Bournemouth & Everton’s debt, losses & business model to realise that its not only championship clubs that don’t have a clue, I’ve seen rival fans saying it does not matter he’s a fan, fan or not they don’t just give the money they are loans & need paying back. Bolton are a prime example of an owner who loved his club>............

The £81m was paid to finish 7th. In today’s market, we got our money’s worth.
No idea what we’re paying out this season.

Re: Ipswich Town - Winding Up Petition
81 million quid for this team is mind boggling and just shows how ridiculous the money in football is. Also don’t you think footballers are paid enough without being paid another 23 million in essence for just doing their job.
Re: Ipswich Town - Winding Up Petition
The money at the top level of football is ridiculous now. Most of it has gone into the pockets of agents and bang average footballers, who've both become very rich. Meanwhile grassroots football is slowly dying and kids teams haven't got any decent pitches to play on.snapcrackleandpop wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 8:15 am81 million quid for this team is mind boggling and just shows how ridiculous the money in football is. Same argument can be made for a lot of sports and jobs other than footballers.snapcrackleandpop wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 8:15 am81 million quid for this team is mind boggling and just shows how ridiculous the money in football is. Re: Ipswich Town - Winding Up Petition
True. But in the last couple of windows we also sold vokes for 10m and replaced with crouch for free.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 11:57 pm£81 million was our wage bill last time out wasn't it?
£81 MILLION!
Sold Heaton for 10m and made do with Hart and Farrell as backup who we got for a fraction of that.
Got the wages of Defour, Ward and co off the books.
On top of the premier league money we made this year.
On top of the premier league money we have banked.
And if the bonuses we paid out weren’t in line with the money we received .i.e. the £20m we paid out in bonuses was more than we received then more fool us!
