The influence of one player (Pablo Hernandez)...who’s ours?

According to SKY, Leeds’ win percentage almost doubles when Pablo Hernandez plays. That’s quite a stat.

Last season you’d say that Tom Heaton was THAT player but who else in our teams of recent years would you say have been particularly influential, in terms of increased points on the pitch, compared to when they don’t play?

You can’t include ever-presents because they have no stats to be compared to.

I'd looked the Defour stats before and they definitely add up. I think about 50% extra pts per game. Current crop, I agree, maybe Hendrick, but haven't officially looked

Not so much recent years but our results when Paul Cook played were unbelievably better than when he didn't play. The reverse was that results were far better when Chris Eagles and Charlie Austin didn't play than when they did.

No idea on current squad as to whether any player makes a difference one way or the other.

I'm not sure though, because he coincided with Heaton returning too. And that was a general improvement in form, not necessarily specifically him improving the results when returning from a couple of games out

Dwight has 7+ goal contributions when he came in and since then has been basically the only creative spark in the team. Heaton may have made an improvement, but goals win games.

Last year it was Heaton and Mc Neill, with the valuable contribution of Hendrick flying under the radar. Bardsley had an impact as well.

Mc Neill hasn't had the same influence this season, because he has been marked more heavily and he has spent more time tracking back. Heaton left and Hendrick is still putting in a shift, but his impact has lessened ( although a lot of people are still oblivious to how important a player he is for us ).

Charlie Taylor would be my pick, because our defence has looked a lot more solid since he came back in. Granted, Pieters played against some of the big heavy hitters which made his job more difficult in a couple of matches. However, in the last few games we have invited more pressure on our back four because of our tactics and dimished presence higher up the pitch, which probably balances out things.

Taylor - 07 full games and 03 half games = 08 goals against our defence

Pieters - 12 full games and 03 half games = 29 goals against our defence

I wouldn't call Taylor a hugely influential player. We play more as a team and everyone has the capacity to stand out for us from game to game. However, this years goals against ratio is a lot better with Taylor in the team ( even though it is really shocking overall ).

What most influential in a bad way?

For the whole 2018 Hendrick didn’t play in a single winning side whilst he was on the pitch despite making 29 appearances.

We won a few games during that run but that was once he’d left the field. Everton at home 2-1 and West Ham away 3-0 for instance.

Not sure of the current crop but I doubt very much it is Charlie Taylor. In fact he didn’t particpate in many wins in his first appearances.

Just dug up these stats on Cook. From signing to leaving we played 197 league games.

He started 143 and we won 68, drew 38 and lost 34. That's 1.68 points per game.
He came on as a sub 7 times and we won 3, drew 1 and lost 3. That's 1.43 points per game.
He didn't play in 49 games and we won 16, drew 11 and lost 22. That's 1.20 points per game.

I haven't got the stats to hand,but i'm fairly confident we struggle when Wood is absent.

Westwood is also a pivotal cog in our machine.

I'd be wary of relying on one player,take Palace and Zaha their record is dire when he doesn't play.

It shows how much we'll miss McNeil when he leaves,he's our one creative outlet just now.

Wouldn't be so bad if we had a captain who showed leadership qualities on the field
Do you ever see Ben Mee showing strong characteristics, shouting out encouragement (or b@llockings) to the rest of the side
But it's not just Ben - there are no leaders out there
Everyone seems to be playing with a fear at the moment apart from McNeil
