Always a sad list

Know it’s an odd question but have no former players died last year?
Can see a few “Burnley FC” on there but can’t see any ex players.

I don't know Kevin Randall who is listed as Burnley FC but the others were Bob Blakeborough (director), Betty Davies (worked in lottery office for years) and Joyce Pickles (marketing manager and then set up the kit manufacturing company with Frank Casper). I'm not aware of any players at all.

I knew the other two but had to google Kevin Randall. He was a member of Dyches scouting staff

Of course he was, ex-Chesterfield.

I knew Betty really well. Her funeral was only last week but unfortunately I couldn't go due to medical appointments. Her dad was Cecil Smith who played for Burnley in the 1930s.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a better silence. Very sad to see so many Burnley fans / people listed. Condolences to all who lost loved ones.

I knew Betty, Joyce and Bob Blakeborough from my time working at the Turf. All were lovely people.

And of course the most recent and sad loss with Beaky.

From watching on TV, an immaculately observed silence.

I know it was met with a bit of cynicism when it started but I do think it’s a wonderful and fitting tribute.

I don't personally know any of the names on the list but... it gave me another chance to remember friends and colleagues from days gone by...

And the result was a fitting tribute to all Clarets past, present and future :) :) :)

My mum and brother are both on that list.
Think about them every day, it was indeed a magnificent minutes silence.

Thanks to everyone who observed it so well.

I knew two of the deceased on there,
Peter Bibby (Pobble with no toes) who took me out on my first job when I started work at Kneeshaw Moffatt in September 1967.
Arthur Fergus who I knew from around 1963 who was my music guru and guided me into R&B and Soul.
RIP to two guys who had significant influence on my life in very different ways.
I also note the passing of Ken Maden of San Diego - how widespread the claret community are spread.
RIP to all the Clarets that passed last year.

I’ve been both blamed and thanked for it since we started it seven years ago but I’ll always believe it was the right thing to do.

And it was impeccably observed too today.

Except referee Taylor who blew the whistle before we got to the end of the list.
Would it really have been a problem to wait for an extra 10 seconds or so to allow those at the end of the alphabet to be read in silence?
Typical PL referee lack of awareness and failure to apply commonsense.

In fairness, the names had started going up on the big screen before the minute. There were so many names it was all but impossible to get them all on in a minute.

Well done tony. My dad passed and took mum on against utd couple of years ago. It was a really nice thing to do and its a great idea.
Utd fan said to me tonight he was jealous that we as fans were so much closer to the club than them.

A few names on there I recognized. Makes me think back to the years I would go to games with my dad, a lifelong Claret, who died December '78. Going to the Turf together was always such a special outing for us. RIP to them all.

I think it's a marvellous thing to do, such a fitting tribute to all the lives lost. I couldn't get there yesterday but when reading the list this morning it brought a tear to my eye. My sincere condolences to all the respective families and friends.
