First and foremost, I enjoyed that game. Not said that for what seems a while.
The game was quite open, almost like a cup tie, the first half goal apart was even, second half was better, there goal shouldn’t have been allowed, it was a foul on Cork.
Second half we maintained a momentum, pressed and harried. There was a togetherness about that performance and it gave the fans something to get behind. A set piece goal no surprise, but the football leading up to Westwood’s goal was excellent, lots of good passing and linkup play utilising Jay, the midfield all played well and linked the game. A lot less long balls and a super goalkeeping effort, a proper Burnley performance. UTC

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Pope 9 - tough to blame him for first goal. Great penalty save and two more excellent saves. England’s number 1.
Bardsley 7 - did well enough but unfortunately doesn’t have the athleticism of Taylor down the left and with Hendrick on the right coming inside we need a quicker attacking outlet down the right.
Tarkowski 7 - did well enough but lost vardy a few times.
Mee 4 - terrible performance until the last 20. Thought something bad would happen every time any of their players got near him.
Taylor 8 - superb defensively and offensively he was up against Ricardo who is a very athletic right back so didn’t get the opportunity to get down the wing as he usually does as often, but he made the most of his chances to cross with a couple of brilliant trippier type balls from deeper.
Hendrick 8 - very skilful player today and adds some composure and drive to the midfield. Would do better with a more athletic right back. Get a new contract signed. Did very well defensively as well.
Westwood 7 - average and a good goal
Cork 6 - at fault for their first.
Mcniel 6 - not his best but still gives us a little bit of quality.
Wood 7 - little service but right place right time.
Jay rod 8 - pivotal to us being so much better 2nd half dropping behind wood so we kept the ball on the floor a bit and linked up well.

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Pope - 9 slightly generous as another one has gone through his feet but you can't really ask any more from you keeper than he produced today.
Bardsley - 7 used his experience well today
Tarkowski - 8 kept Vardy very quiet
Mee - 6 does well for our first which makes up for their goal where he gets nowhere near Barnes who practically walks past him. Haven't seen the pen, looked 50/50 from the other end.
Taylor - 8 especially good second half with two super balls on to Wood's head and for the winner. Canny defending too.
Cork - 7 pick of the midfield, he was the one who got himself involved and moved us forward. Fouled for their goal so that can't be held against him.
Westwood - 6 controlled his finish superbly for the winner but was off the pace for a lot of the game.
Hendrick - 7 very good defensively and decent enough going forward, displaying some quick feet at times but the problem with having a central midfielder on the wing is that he's often left with few options and doesn't know what to do next, so loses the ball.
McNeil - 6 quietish game out wide but came looking for the ball and tried to make things happen
Wood - 7 better than he has been and worked well with Rodriguez, especially on the floor. Poacher's goal.
Rodriguez - 8 fortunately he gets a run in the team now and it means we'll play much better football as a result. He's an intelligent player with good feet, very different to the bombastic style of Barnes and we keep it on the floor and move it about better with him in the side. Probably our best forward in the air as well.
We didn't deserve to go in behind at the break, especially as it looked a clear foul on Cork from where we were. Aside from a wobbly start to the sevond half we didnt ket it affect us and from the springboard of Pope's penalty save, we've deservedly gone on and won the match against a decent side, albeit one that's not quite as good as they think they are.
Top result and better football, plenty to build on.

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
What an entertaining match.
Pope 9 Has to MOM because the game turned on that great save.
Bardsley 7 Worked his socks off
Tarkowski 7 See Bardsley
Mee 5 Worryingly done for pace twice. One was a goal the other a penalty.
Taylor 8 Becoming one of my favourite players. Effort and skill.
Hendrick 7 Good game.
Cork 8 Perhaps his best game this season.
Westwood 8 Took his goal so well and never stopped working.
McNeil 7 Looks knackered after about 5 minutes but worked hard
Rodriguez 6 OK.
Wood 7 Can't complain with a goal.
At half time I said to my wife we're still in this as we were competing and working hard. For once the ball dropped kindly for us and even though we were playing against 12 men at times, we never gave up. Well done Burnley

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
From Sky One TV (thanks FactualFrank).
Pope 9 (MoM) - good penalty save, generally did what he had to well (except one messed up cross where his defence got him out of trouble). Kicking good too.
Bardsley 9 - stuck to his difficult defensive task; provided an attacking outlet, got in good positions for crossing but all but one cross was poor, the best one not being anticipated by our forwards.
Taylor 9 - very impressive defensively; was hoping for a bit more from him down the left wing with McNeil being heavily marked.
Tarkowski 8 - very solid and reliable today.
Mee 6 - not sure how to mark him. Generally he was good both defensively and in attack but he showed too much space to Barnes for the goal, gave away the penalty and was lucky not to concede another (and a second yellow/red) for the handball.
Cork 7 - worked hard all over the pitch. I don’t blame him too much for the goal.
Westwood 7 - same as Cork except I do blame him a bit for the goal. He just stood there claiming a foul as Leicester broke away and surely we should have not been in such an exposed position anyway, for which I blame him (you could argue it was Wood and Rodriguez at fault too for not controlling and keeping the ball up front). Good finish though.
McNeil 6 - well shackled by Leicester but still got in our best cross of the game which I was hoping Wood would do better with. Worked hard defensively too.
Hendrick 7 - covered well on the right; made himself available and created a couple of opportunities. Seems to be our only other creative outlet after McNeil.
Wood 6 - didn’t win too much in the air and missed his second best opportunity. Worked hard.
Rodriguez 5 - not sure what he offered except hard work and closing down. I didn’t see any goal threat and only one ambitious and poor shot.
Overall I assumed we played better then of late.
In the first half I thought we did OK but looked limited compared to Leicester’s riches of creative talent. The half-time score was fair and Leicester didn’t have to work too hard to be in the lead. There was hope as we had created a little bit and it looked like their defence was vulnerable to pressing.
In the second half we got lucky with the penalty save (good save) and with not conceding a second (and Mee getting sent off. However perhaps The Goal Machine [Kevin Long] would have been brought on and who knows what the score would have been then) but we looked a bit more likely. We caused problems for their defence and got two goals. After that I thought we defended excellently - lots of good blocks and cutting off passes - such that I was reasonably confident we would see the game out.
We’ve beaten a top four team. Can we now beat a top five team?!
And what an enjoyable game, not only because we won but because both teams tried to play their game so it made an interesting contrast. Well refereed too. No sour taste in the mouth you get after some games.

Are you seriously trying to say jay rod is better in the air than Wood, who stats show is the best in the air in the league since he’s played for us.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 6:02 pm

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Pope 8 inc 2 for pen save ,dropped a few today
Bardsley 7 Solid enough and tidy 1st half
Tarks 7 not his best game often outpaced but kept his head
Mee 5 must be time for Gibson
Taylor 8 good all round game and worked well with Dwight
Hendrick 8 Lively and even beat a man played well
Westwood 8 inc 1 for goal
Cork 7 thought he played well pushing and working off the ball
McNeil 7 some nice moves 2nd half
J Rod 6 little to feed on but no lack of effort
Wood 6 inc 1 for goal not much to feed on
We needed and just about deserved that . Good team effort against a dangerous but not spectacular outfit .

Pope 9
Bardsley 7
Mee 4 undroppable, so no point rating him
Tarkowski 7
Taylor 7
Hendrick 6 he's no winger, but often took safety first, especially first half
Westwood 7
Cork 5 gives his all but his limitations are so obvious
McNeil 6 cant remember his last influential game
Wood 7
Rodriguez 7
It was an ok day, but baring a Nick Pope penalty save we would be up in arms.
It wasnt great, we created little, and our season has literally turned on 1 save.
Not the first time a Burnley and Leicester season has turned on a penalty at Turf Moor....

Didn’t expect that after a poor first half.
Defining moment and perhaps a season changer was the penalty save.

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Pope 8 - Recovered well from the goal against him to inspire the win, with some match winning saves.
Bardsley 7 - Struggled to hold himself back, considering they rolled over at the slightest touch but drove the right hand side.
Tarkowski 7 - Had me nervous but otherwise commanding.
Mee 5 - Shocker. We move on.
Taylor 8 - Provided attack from the left side given they were overloading Dwight.
Hendrick 7 - Excellent second half but -1 for being ponderous in the 1st half.
Westwood 7 - +1 for his goal but kept looking backwards. overawed in midfield due to...
Cork 6 - Caught in possesion again, ponderous and gave possession away repetitively. Also kept turning backwards. Gets +1 for putting in blocks in the last 15 mins.
McNeil 6 - Identified as our threat and marked by 3 men at one point. We need to provide threats from others to lighten the load.
Rodriguez 7 - Nice to see a man run at them but anyone with pace nullified him.
Wood 8 - Kept at it and we’ll worth his goal.

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Good grief, somebody on here - you know who you are ( FC Burnley by the way !!) awarded Chris Wood 5!! Yes 5!!!! ie (below par)!! Now correct me if I am wrong but as a striker I thought it was his job in the main to score goals?!! Perhaps I am mistaken? All about opinions but that is just absolutely embarrassing; hang your head in shame. You clearly have a different agenda/know nothing about football or as I suspect are a Rovers-loving troll!
Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Whilst some lament about Bardsley's limitations going forward it is good read the Quoon's rating and mention Phil's experience. He used it well today and he should get a high rating for his fist pump to the JH after the game alone. His PL experience is vital in those type of games especially towards the end.
Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Not sure what more people expect from Wood. Think that's 9 league goals now, with no penalties, playing upfront for a team that doesn't create many chances.Mayoclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 7:36 pmGood grief, somebody on here - you know who you are ( FC Burnley by the way !!) awarded Chris Wood 5!! Better performance with much more energy, especially the second half but thought we were fortunate to win the game. Leicester had some very good chances but didn't take them. The game hinged on the penalty save prior to that we looked like we would never score from open play and set pieces were our only chance. Highly important three points. Hope that boosts the confidence a bit and we kick on.

A win obviously skews marks and perceptions about the performance, but we have to see this performance as SO Burnley. Second best in every department (except goalkeeping!) for 93 minutes, yet nicked the points because we're dogged, steely and don't ever give up! And if you don't take your chances ....!! I'm not these days Cork's biggest fan, but that WAS a foul and their goal should never have stood. Pope was utterly outstanding and Jeff had a great day too. We mustn't paper over the cracks and we definitely still need an injection of new blood, but there is clearly life in the old dog and it gives us hope that we can salvage the season, cobble together 12? more points and move on for next season. Maybe. One happy (slightly squiffy) chappy here, but still wary tbh as there's quite a way to go yet. (Thought Lennon had a good game....by his standards)

Crucial win but in truth it didn’t look like one for long periods. It was a weird one - they had hugely more possession and chances yet we looked like we were dominant for long spells, though with Leicester looking like the team who would score.
I felt we made many wrong decisions, Dwight especially but also the players further back, incl Cork for their goal (he was fouled but still made a bad decision). Mee made two howlers for their goal and penalty, run around far too easily by Barnes, but also made some fine clearances and set up the goal.
Pope was the key - from howler the other game to superstar. How things change. He was immense, and was the difference.
I still worry about our creativity and tendency to throw one in but we are grabbing these wins that matter. We HAVE to rebuild though, we are crying out for at least a couple of new faces and it was obvious Sean doesn’t trust the reserves (maybe rightly). We will be safe if we win the easier home games coming up but we said that before Villa.

Pope 9 (one for penalty save)
Bardsley 8-know he didn't use the ball well at times, but wow he won 3 or 4 great challenges when it mattered
Tarks 8, he plays Vardy well
Mee 7 (one for assist(
Taylor 8-developing into a great left back
Westwood 8 (one for goal)
Cork 6-not as effective as Westwood with his possession and distribution
McNeil 6-some nice touches but did not really get into the game , but up against one of the best right backs playing in the PL
Hendrick 8-hesitant at times with ball but did a great job defensively and some nice technical touches. If he can keep this up then we wont miss JBG or Brady
Jay Rod 7-put in a great shift and convinced he will shine in Barnes's absence. His presence meant we played the ball nicely
Wood 7-fair does, back after a bad injury last week. Led the line well and worked hard.Think him and Jay Rod are forging a ghood partnership

Special mentions for the effort and passion from Bardsley, Jayrod and Hendrick. They left it all out there today.
If Bardsley is now our first choice right back for the season, (with Lowton woefully out of sorts, and probably no replacement signed) then he has all the attributes needed to be captain if a replacement for Mee is required - (for whatever reason).
Bardsley was really up for the fight today - exemplified by his passion when he felt they were cheating.

I know it's a game of opinions but some of the low scores for Cork and Mee are surprising.

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
As the dreadful first half came to an end, I couldn`t see any light at the end of an ever-lengthening tunnel but kudos to the players, they really got their heads down in the 2nd half and deservedly came out on top, against a thankfully pretty plain Leicester team. A huge 3 points! We really are a difficult watch but if the team shows 100% endeavour and commitment whilst attempting to play some decent football, Burnley fans can live with it. Well done Burnley and thank you alcohol!

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Pope - 8 - Some decent saves, maybe should have done better with Barnes shot though.
Bardsley - 7 - Rough and tough, did the ugly stuff well.
Tarks - 6 - Did ok, but he's not as comfortable around the ball as he used to be.
Mee - 5 - Batteries looked flat, off the pace at times and should have done better against Barnes.
Taylor - 6 - Back to his old self, Tom Daley would have been proud.
Hendrick - 6 - Better performance today, but still not able to deliver the telling pass.
Cork - 4 - He was awful. Powder puff performance. Trotting around and falling over in the wind as usual. Not sure what Dyche is watching.
Westwood - 7 - That's more like it. Covered the ground, scored the goal and looks like he's up for it.
McNeil - 5 - Too much time on the Xbox? He looked like his mind was somewhere else.
Jay Rod - 7 - He's getting there. Covered load of ground and took the pressure off others who were hiding.
Wood - 7 - Kept off-sides down to a minimum and scored a goal, happy days.
Some of you seem to score mediocre performances dramatically higher when we win. We could easily have lost today, Leicester had tons of chances, a penalty saved and a penalty denied that was one. There were only a few decent performers in Claret and Blue today, but a win is a win. UTC.....

Think people's first impressions very much depend on where they were sat. From the JH it was a clear foul and the replay only reinforces thatClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 4:54 pmOn the Cork debate - I didn't think he was fouled at the time but I've seen it back and he clearly was. Cork caught out on the ball again in the middle of the park and cost us a goal also highlighting Ben Mee’s struggle with pace . If Cork moves the ball quicker he doesn’t get caught but it’s too often happening now and we do need someone better in there, this being said he works ever so hard and does do a great job barring what I’ve mentioned .
Hendrick -9 fantastic!
Hendrick -9 fantastic!

Cork has been dithering and getting caught in possession regularly for well over a year now and it's been costing us and yesterday I initially I thought it was simply more of the same, BUT when you see the replay you have to say it's a clear foul and he was really unfortunate.

Pope 9*-Penalty save was game changer and he had a commanding game overall.
Bardsley 8-Warrior like performance.
Tarkowski 7-Sound if not spectacular.
Mee 6-I think Ben's limitations were exposed at times yesterday.
Taylor 9-Thought he had an excellent game not only defensively but also as an attacking force, especially in the 2nd half.
Hendrick 7-Had one of his better games but as i've stated time and again he's not fluid too enough with his passing after doing good work.
Westwood 7-Plenty of energy as usual.
Cork 6-I'm Corky's biggest fan but I don't think he had a particularly good game.
McNeil 6-I've been saying for a while he needs a rest. May be more productive giving him 10-15 mins from the bench for a while.
Rodriguez 8-Lot of energy and gave us more options. Should have been in the side a long while back.
Wood 8-Good performance rounded off with a poachers goal.
