That's irrelevant, he shouldn't be in a position where an opposing player can make that challenge in our half. Him and Westwood have cost us goals from those positions.
How can it be irrelevant ? He was fouled and if he would not have been fouled he would have got away from his man.
I know that they have cost us goals this year but that happens with every single team...midfielders often receive the balls in very difficult positions where sometimes they choose to run with the ball rather than pass it even if this is in their own half (it was near the half way line)
Of course that means they can get tackled and put their team in trouble but are there any midfielders in the league who are not trying the same thing near the halfway line at some point in the game as when you do succeed and run away from the player it will often mean that you have an extra player in midfield.
In the case yesterday Cork was fouled so its completely relevant to conceding the first goal yesterday.

So, none of our players can be in the centre circle where someone can lunge in from behind and foul them? Okay. I'm not sure that's workable to be honest.

I've said I think Mee should be rested/dropped.

He looks off the pace, and when he makes a mistake it costs us - Which isn't necessary his fault but more luck... but it seems to happen a lot.
I, like many/most others, love Ben Mee and I find it sad I'm saying take him out of the team, but it seems like there is no competition for the centre half positions which can't be a good thing (£15m for Gibson?).

All that said, we won with him as captain... what more do we want haha
Also those that say Jack Cork for captain? No thanks. He may have given the ball away a few times yesterday, but I thought he was better than normal - I'd rather he lose the ball at times than the usual non-effective running alongside play he does... he'd make a great ref

Evans, who is apparently worth a fortune, missed his fairly straightforward clearance and Westwood scored the winner. Other than that he was very good. Even really good players sometimes make mistakes. Just saying like!

Mee’s form has been a concern but our squad has much greater needs to address.

Recruitment.

Don't spend a record fee on a position where you are in need of another "just in case" back up. A left sided Kev Long type. 3M should do it. We did it with Pieters who did OK while Charlie was injured.

If you are going to plunk 15M on a player, then they should damn well be starting. Don't understand the Gibson signing at all - unless, of course, we thought Ben Mee was off at the time, which we are told he wasn't.

The way we play makes defenders more prone to mistakes than other teams but it also allows them to shine too.

With Mee though it's his lack of pace, technique and sometimes height that gets him in to trouble. It's fair to say that Keane and now Tarkowski made less mistakes on average for us, but then again they are less likely to have their head on the line when it matters.

If Gibson isn't an upgrade which Dyche clearly feels is the case then I'm not sure any player we sign will be.

Immense tonight.

The positioning of the entire defence was superb all night and made sure nobody got exposed to pace.

I thought so. Partly at fault for a goal, conceded a pen and lucky not to concede another.

At least one Man Utd fan on Redcafe would like to swap Mee for Maguire.

He wasn’t at fault for the goal. He was left 1 v 1 against a much quicker player running directly at the centre of the goal.

The penalty he conceded arguably saved us a goal, and was won with a good piece of skill.

The penalty he was ‘lucky not to concede’ blocked a goalbound shot.

So arguably, Mee saved 2 goals and assisted one. It wasn’t his best game but calling his performance shite is exaggerating.

Immense tonight, commentary on NBC crediting him for such a strong performance after an indifferent game against Leicester.

4 out of the back 5 were immense in everything they did. Charlie Taylor outstanding again. Lowton lacking confidence but he contributed and I thought hendrick doubled up well to provide him some support.

I didn’t think he was particularly crap against Leicester - if I did I would say so. I thought he was perhaps a little below par but that’s it. He was up against some very tricky customers and as a group we came out on top. For his limitations he’s one of the the most consistent centre backs in the league and we’re lucky to have him.

Harry Maguire.......Cost a gazillion pounds.....Salary A Lot........Looked like a carthorse..........Ripped by Wood and JRod all night

Ben Mee......Cost nowt......Salary. Earns every penny.......2nd assist in 2 games.........played every PL minute this season.......Respect Ben Mee

Was it not Ben Mee getting blocks and headers in towards the end of the 2nd half against Leicester? You maybe need to rephrase what you are saying as he certainly hasn’t been ‘poor’.

It might also be worth mentioning that he won the header against Matic for Wood's goal, even though Matic is four or five inches taller and a stone and a half heavier. The commentators mentioned that Burnley have big players to aim for when taking free kicks and corners - but if they looked properly,. they would see that Mee is one of the smaller centre halves in the league.

MOM for me I’d have to give it to Charlie Taylor as he was our main threat going forward and done a lot of unsung defensive donkey work aswell.
