Re: Only the top 5...
and only the bottom 3 have lost more. Whats really strange though is that we are in 14th place and only 13 teams have more points than us.
Stats eh....how random they are.

7 points off 5th, 5 points off relegation points to a middle-of-the-table finish.
Re: Only the top 5...
Only if we produce the results like in the first 23 games and we usually have a better second half of the season under SD but not always.
I think 17-18 season we were poorer in the last 19 games
It does look as if the 17th team this season will need nearer 40 than 30 for the first time in a long time as Villa are 17th with 22 from 23 games.
We need to get another 12 points IMO

Five wins from 15 games needed.

I'm starting to think that a record number of points may be required to stay up this season

That's said by people every season, without fail.claret2018 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 9:11 amI'm starting to think that a record number of points may be required to stay up this season
As things stand, a point a game puts a team in 17th - where Watford are. That's 38 points over the season.
Villa have one of the hardest remaining set of fixtures and Norwich and Bournemouth don't exactly look like they're about to go on an amazing run.
To me, there's nothing to suggest more than 37-38 will be needed to stay up. And I think even just 3 more wins for us from our remaining 15 games could be enough, finishing on 36.

Re: Only the top 5...
There's a real redistrubution of points in the bottom to middle part of the table this season, with lots of bottom half clubs capable of beating the stronger clubs
I think posters are right in that you could conceivably be relegated with 40/41 points this year. It is in our hands and since the end of November have played a stack of top clubs, and got them.
Bournemouth, Norwich and Villa are who I am looking to end up in the bottom three. There might be someone fade away (like Brighton did this year) and it could be Brighton again or even Newcastle

Re: Only the top 5...
With Liverpool so clear it makes it look like more points will be needed at the bottom.
