Don’t want to scare you Tony but 1997 is more than twelve years ago!

On Wikipedia Harvey Barnes place of birth is listed as Burnley. Although it’s during his Dad’s time playing with us and just a year before he moved onto Huddersfield in a swap with Payton so I doubt he regards himself as a Burnley lad.

Sorry to be a pedant Tony but I think your auto-correct has changed ‘Mee’ to ‘me’. It reads like both you and the ref pointed to the spot. Good report though.

Good report. I remember being quite pleased when we signed Paul Barnes. Seems a while ago but not 22 years.

I couldn't attend on Sunday so it's pleasing to read such a good and positive report. How did we miss signing Harvey Barnes as a youngster?

Perhaps he wasn't particularly good?

Born in Burnley but he's a local lad from Leicester who went through their academy.

And maybe his Dad's experiences with Waddle put him off suggesting us as a club to go to.

My only 'in the know' story relates to the Barnes / Payton swap deal. Although of course it might be a load of crap.

Anyway, a mate was on Huddersfield's books at the time as a youth / reserve or whatever they called u23s then. He said Payton was a really good lad, obsessed with scoring and only really concerned with his stats. Fair enough for a goalscorer. One day they were doing one of those sessions where they keep the ball in a circle. It bounced away and the manager Peter Jackson told Payts to go and get it.

Apparently they didn't get on too well and Payts didn't like playing ball boy and told him this fairly bluntly. Jackson went nuts and wanted him out. Two days later he was packing his stuff up and told my mate he was going to Burnley, as they'd pay him the same as Huddersfield even in a league below, reckoned he'd score loads...

Not really much of a story but shows how much fortune is involved in stuff like this, without that childish fallout he'd have stayed at Town and we'd probably have been back in the bottom division.

He would not have been allowed to come to us. You can only bring kids into your academy from within a certain distance away. So a kid from Leicester we would not be able to sign.

'two of their three recent defeats had come against Liverpool and Manchester United'

Just a small correction - it was Man City, which is much more forgivable these days!

I found the comment "for those who like to criticise when shots on goal shows zero" quite interesting.

I don't endorse serial whingers but I think fans are entitled to feel a bit miffed when they leave a game without having seen their team have a shot on goal. In our case there were a total of 5 shots on target in December excluding the 4 in the Newcastle game (BBC match stats).

Why would you exclude the 4 in the Newcastle game?

Ok then, there were 9 in December, 4 of which came in one game.
