Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Personally, I'm not fussed about the cup, as we're not safe yet. So depending on how fit he is, bench appearances for the next 2 games then ready for home to Arsenal.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
We need him available until the end of the season so please let us not tempt fate by getting him back too soon, although it would be unusual for SD to do that
Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Don’t start him in the cup, 10 or 15 mins at the end would be good
Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
A fit JBG makes a massive difference to us, IMO he’s on of our better players

Brilliant news.
Hopefully 20mins on Saturday along with some of the younger players.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Happy days. Let's hope he can last more than a couple of games this time. Possibly our most dangerous player when on top form.
Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
I bet you could recycle many articles like this about JBG. Would love him to stay fit. Top player.
Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
What was the fee for him and Pope? Seem to remember £3million

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
He’s picked up an injury in his last 3 FA cup games I think.
Lincoln, Barnsley and Peterborough.
The first one v Lincoln was actually an awful challenge and would not be surprised if this has been the injury that has led to his problems in his last couple of years.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
So the back four that played on Sunday and Pope cost a total of what? Do you know? And what %age I wonder would that be of the Harry Maguire fee?

A fit JBG and a fit and on form Brady would make us an unbelievably better team. If we had these two fit and in form I would have no fears at all about relegation.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Was Tarks about 3m? Pope as stated 1m. Mee didn't cost a lot (2m comes to mind but not sure). Taylor 5m. Bardsley? Was he the calssic undisclosed? It wasn't much anyway. Anyway a goalkeeper and full back line for probably less than 15m. Not bad when you consider that, normally anyway, they are pretty damned good.

Mee was 800k, not sure if he had performance add ons, Tarks was 3m, Taylor 5m, not sure about bardsley maybe 1m, came same time as Walters.houseboy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 12:46 pmWas Tarks about 3m? Those cheap days are behind us tho, hope we can get a midfield upgrade in the centre mid to take the pressure of cork and Westwood a bit. As they have to play out of their skins for us to compete with the bigger teams, it’s not going to happen every week for sure. Need to find the African defour if we’re as skint as we are told!
Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Any player getting back to fitness is a real plus, just dont rush him !

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Agreed. It was an awful challenge from the Lincoln lad and the ref offered no protection to any of our players that day.TVC15 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 12:33 pmHe’s picked up an injury in his last 3 FA cup games I think.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Excellent news, although it has to be tempered with the knowledge that since the end of the 2017/18 season and the subsequent world cup these comebacks have been as regular as the breakdown that inevitably follows - so fingers crossed that this time he can break the cycle.
i wouldn't be expecting overnight impact from him in any event - he's looked rusty in his last couple of comebacks, and he's never looked as impressive for us since Lowton's form dropped and he lost his overlapping outlet on the right hand side.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
He keeps getting hamstring injuries - they can’t be connected to the injury sustained against LincolnTVC15 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 12:33 pmHe’s picked up an injury in his last 3 FA cup games I think.

Glen Little went off to Lilleshall I seem to recall because of his repeated hamstring problems

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
As he'll know only too well, (and as will SD) hammies have to be given time, lots of it. Probably came back too early last time. (If its the same one)
Id leave him out tomorrow.

Come on Gudmundsson stay fit then we have a better centre midfield option in Hendrick as well as an outlet down the right hand side.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
To read this thread anyone would thing we had some world class goal scoring superman coming back not an injury prone ( though pretty decent ) bit part player . Though I like JBG as we’re just about our “ bargain basement best” with him fit ,I also feel J Rod will work off him too ,let’s hope he stays fit and probs start vs Arsenal

You must have heard the song about your bones and limbs being connected to each other !ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 1:46 pmHe keeps getting hamstring injuries - they can’t be connected to the injury sustained against Lincoln
In all seriousness it is quite common that when you have one big injury that you get loads of niggly ones after - can’t remember JBG having many injuries before the Lincoln game.
I had a big injury in my mid 40s after being pretty injury free for 40 years of playing football. Since then I’ve had a number of calf and hamstring small tears but I’m still playing at nearly 53 !!
Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Mid forties and played for 40 years. Bet you were a great dribbler.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Jbg played 44 games the season after the Lincoln game, including the world cup following the season.
That's when his troubles really started - he played the world cup and then started the following season incredibly early with the Europa League. I suspect that lack of a break was the real problem.

It certainly wasn't the Lincoln injury.claretspice wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 2:35 pmJbg played 44 games the season after the Lincoln game, including the world cup following the season.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
He's a great little player (who does what all small players tend to do and jumps miles into the air to win more than his fair share of headers!) and taking into account what we paid Charlton, he's a real gem, BUT every time he comes back now I simply assume it'll be fairly short lived and after 2,3,4 games he'll be sidelined again. It's sad, but I've simply become accustomed to him being always on the fringes these days and I even forget we have him sometimes, when had he stayed fit, he'd have been one of the first on the team sheet and right at the heart of things.
Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Remember him getting injured in a game in the World Cup now and they did seem to rush him back...then lack of a break etc.
Shame really as he looked great for us.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Has he retired from international football to concentrate on his club career? If not and in view of his injury record it would seem perfectly reasonable for the club to ask him to do so.
Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
And it wouldn't be unreasonable if he told the club where to go in such circumstances.

Re: ARTICLE: JBG on his way back
Hammys are a *******. He should get onto Giggs who overcame his regular hammy injuries with constant stretching and, I believe, ballet exercises.
I’d play him in the cup but tell him not to go into full sprint at any point. I’d rather lose than have him injured again but he does need game time.

Becoming a bit too much like Darren Wilshire , we need someone who’s actually going to play more than 20 games a season and is first choice on the right
