Is this our best chance in years for a win at Old Trafford?

Post by dibraidio » Tue Jan 21, 2020 3:45 pm

Manchester United are nowhere near where they have been in previous years.
If we can play to our strengths surely we can unsettle OGS's young charges?

"Is this our best chance in years for a win at Old Trafford?"

I wouldn't say so - our best chance was when we were 2-0 up!

Fingers crossed.

I can see them turning in their "one in four" decent performance in against us though. Given the weekend's result I'm more optimistic of beating them though.

They've got injuries which is good, especially Rashford but largely depends on what tactics they deploy. They have the physique and athleticism to neutralise how we play. Mourinho was smart with his tactics. Hopefully OGS wont be.

Difference is Mourinho is a good manager, OGS is someone who isn't!

I think we'll be up for it, bit of pressure off us after the win over Leicester.
We need to go for it, not give em too much respect.

A point would be great.

The times when we were 2-0 up were probably our best chances, as already said.

Maybe I should have entitled this thread, is this the weakest Man Utd team we'll have played at Old Trafford in years?

Apparently they've got selection problems at the back with Lindelhof a doubt due to illness. Rashford will be a big loss for them. If our lads can raise themselves for the game like they have in the past who knows?

It may be a weaker Man Utd but they still have their 12th man Jon Moss . Remember last season.

It looks like OGS has realised "you can't win anything with kids" as per Mr Hansen !
Matic is now back in the holding midfield role and doing quite well
Amazed at the upturn in form from Fred Flintstone
Has anyone noticed that Utd are 5th in the table
Would be over the moon if we were able to take even a point

Jon Moss is the ref, we could be 5-0 up against 8 men going into injury time and he'd still find a way for United to get a result

Rarely would I take a draw.

However I’d snap your hands off right now to be two nil up again and draw again.

Rashford missing is huge. Both he and Pogba are often very good against us.

That said. Even an out of form, short on numbers Man Utd is a tough game at Old Trafford.

In James, Martial, Wan Bissaka they have some very fast attacking players. And a top keeper.

I’d be looking to exploit their lack of pace at the back and if they play the same system as the Liverpool game, Shaw playing in a back three.

I’d also be getting Billy mercer on the phone to Craig Mawson to get some info

If we are to get anything at OT. Mee, Tarkowski and Cork will have to get their acts together. All three have been poor recently

Indeed but I do think if we get at them, forcefully, strongly - nothing reckless- we can beat them. We will pose a threat at every set piece, particularly corners and must not allow ourselves to be penned back and, ultimately, picked off. Woody could have a field day.
United are shite and will resort to cheating to con the easily connable Moss into providing the points.
**** 'em, get stuck in and wind 'em up.

Ole is probably briefing him to at least make it less obvious this time! I wonder if I can put a bet on that he gives at least one penalty to them, absolutely nailed on ( going to do some research) if we’re winning going into his injury time of 20+ mins

Come on get at them, mix it up like we did on Sunday, get the ball to wood in the box and we will score. Their defence can be bullied. Maguire makes Wood and Jay rod look like adama traore and whoever is partnered with him is not really up to it. Mcniel can tear wan bissaka to pieces and their midfield is nothing special.

A lot of United fans are moaning about the zonal system they use at corners plus the fact that De Gea stays on his line . With Wood , Mee and Tarks in the team , this could be a big problem for them . I'm sat in the south stand near the tunnel with my mate who's got 4 utd season tickets , so hopefully I'll have to sit on my hands . When Defour scored that awesome free kick , my lad jumped up which didn't go down to well !!

You wouldn't think Moss would be too keen on United, being from Leeds.

Just checked, born in Sunderland, lives in Leeds. Got a nice little vinyl shop.

Lawro's predicting a 1-1,let's hope he's right ala Sunday.

That said their form at OT is decent, only Palace have won there in the PL,although both Everton and Villa have managed draws, the worry is their last 2 league results at home, include a 4-1 win over Newcastle, and a 4-0 win over Norwich,of course Rashford played a large part in those wins and he'll be a big miss for them, amongst their other absentees, our victory over Leicester should give us belief that we can get something tomorrow however.

I think we go into the game with more confidence and we have been unlucky there last couple of times. If we keep it tight I fancy us to nick something.

Never seen Burnley win at OT in all the years i've been watching the Clarets. I've seen us blow 2-0 leads in our last two appearances (with a bit of help in the latter) and even going as far back as the '60's. They even came back to beat us after we were leading when they were a 2nd tier side against us in the 1st back in the mid seventies in a League Cup game. So I'm not full of optimism for tonight. I was encouraged by our resilience towards the end of the Leicester game and we'll need that in bucket loads tonight.

Blimey it's not like you to be so positive BOYSIE are you feeling alright  United's pace worries me but we can cause them problems going forward,if we can get enough of the ball, and bring McNeil and Jay Rod into the game.

If we attack and not give a gutless display like in the home fixture we will win
Score early, keep it tight on Martial and Greenwood and we have a very good chance. The crowd will get edgy the longer we lead.Sit back and go for 00 like at Goodison and we've no chance.

Need to be up and at em like Sheff Utd were with City last night. Ok didn’t win but gave them a proper game. Have some of our fitness levels dropped off from what they were? We don’t seem to play with quite the same intensity or dogged ‘thou shall not pass’ attitude.

Try to remember it is Manchester United we are playing. Okay they are not at their best however they do have a team with international players who cost a substantial amount of money.

If we lose try to remember it was Manchester United and don't post about how United were their for the taking. There is still a massive gulf between burnley and Manchester United.

Bookies have us at 8/1. It is going to be very difficult to get anything but we can hope. 3 draws in last 3 and played very well in the 3-1 defeat when we played in tin foil.

With my bookie, 2-2 is 22/1. Couldnt resist a fiver on that. Would be amazing if it was a hat-trick of 2-2s though; even more amazing if we got 3 points.

Best chance since the last time we were there.
We blew it big-time last year, aided and abetted by Jon Moss, a dodgy penalty decision, and a hand ball by Jones in the build up to their equalizer.
