As much as Barnes and Wood make a good partnership.
The pressing and high tempo by Jay Rod and others tonight was fantastic to see.

A cracking goal as well.

I said after the Leicester game when people were criticising him that we have not seen the best yet. This guy has class and looks a hell of a "team player". Him and Wood are quite a force

Hope tonight's result does not stop us strengthening the squad this window

The next goal of the decade poll had got off to a strong start.

Absolute worldie. The bloke has real quality. Dont underestimate the quality of the link up before the hit too by the way.

Thought he was outstanding tonight. Hasn’t had a proper run in the side and so glad he now will do.

Constant pressing, running, linking play and finished off with that goal.

Great bit of football like the build up to the 2nd on Sunday. A very good bit of business in the summer.

A goal that will be talked about for the remaining history of our club, just like Robbies, just like Wades etc. A goal we will see and enjoy before every home game on our big screen for the rest of our lives.

Thankyou Jay for giving us such a fantastic moment, an absolutely beautiful goal.

Great performance even without the goal. Harried and pressed with real intensity and showed good quality on the ball. Starting to show some intricate link-up with Wood as well which is great to see.

Good point. It wouldn’t be the same looking back had ‘that victory’ at Old Trafford been won by a scrappy tap in.

I like Ash but Jay does give us something different, and I think we look a much better team with him in the side.
He is only going to get better with a good run in the team.

You have to think those who described him as a bad signing either have a stench of jealousy or got turned down when holding a tacky piece of cardboard asking for his shirt after a game. He is a very good footballer.

Unbelievable hit and well deserved by J-Rod who hopefully is just hitting form when we need him most. Certainly in there with the best goals of this decade ;)

Still not up there with Blake, though. The ecstasy of that first goal in the PL, being the culmination of the previous season, especially against Ferguson's Man Utd will be tough to beat. Thats before you consider the technique in the volley.

Just because a player sits on the bench doesn’t make them a bad signing and a waste of money. Circumstances dictate when they play. See Gibson and Tarkowski before him. Vydra too could step up if there were injuries and he got a run of games.

Very pleased for him. He’s always been a good player. And you can never doubt his endeavour and passion. I was one who feared age and injuries may be against him and we should’ve been in for someone a bit younger and a bit different. Happy to be proved wrong with goals like his.

Very happy for him though as he’s a top lad and to do that for your home town club at Old Trafford I cant imagine a better feeling.

Just what a player needs "game time". He'll get quicker and sharper the more he gets. Well done Jay, the touch prior to him striking it was sublime.

I honestly had a feeling Jay was going to do something special last night.

We always score some belting goals at OT, and have been desperately unlucky not to win on a couple of recent occasions

There are very few players who can score a goal of that quality tbh. He is what I would describe as a scorer of great goals rather than a great goal scorer. Wood is a better goal scorer but they complement each other for that reason.

I’m sure there was truth to the rumours of his move to Spurs before his injury at Southampton and given he played for England at the time there has always been an international class player in there. His injuries have taken their toll a bit but with a bit of luck we will get the benefit of his twilight years..

You beat me to it. As good as Jay's strike was the interplay in that little triangle was as good a bit of football as you will see.

Goal of the Month candidate?

I was thinking about that this morning and partcularly about Wood. How good would he be if he actually played in a team that created lots of chances and got a lot of balls into the box? Or would his game change because he would know that chances are not a a premium? Is he so sharp because he doesn't get too many chances or in spite of it?

We don't play good football. Must have been outsiders brought in wearing our shirts.

Superb shot. De Gea's out on the pitch as I type still trying to save it.

We create chances but they all come from the left hand side, hence why he seems to hook goals in with his left foot. If we had the same supply line from the right with his favoured right foot, he could be lethal.

That was my thinking. If his supply was equally good from both sides he could be a 20+ goal a season striker. Even this season, barring injury or suspension and assuming he doesn't suddenly lose form, he is on target for around 16. That is phenominal considering we are (rightly) regarded as a defensive team. Given the stupid money being paid now for what are really ordinary players I wonder what he is currently worth? Only problem is if he carries on like this for the rest of the season we could have trouble keeping hold of him in the Summer.

Just checked the leading scorers in the PL: Wood is only now 1 goal behind Stirling, Salah, Mane and Kane. Now that is some company to be in.

Woods goal to games ratio since he signed has been great. 10 league goals already this season with no penalties playing for a team that doesn't create many chances isn't to be sniffed at.

It's really sad reading all that guff, you guys clearly don't understand football at all. I mean I back my statement up from what all the pundits said, worst ManU team for 30 years, they're rubbish, tao a man they failed to turn up, come on the blind school team could have beaten them surely.

De Gea clearly in that bracket, an off day surely, he did not really move to save that goal.

pfff, and you lot are salivating over it, I watched it go in and thought, what the hell just happened!! It's a beautiful day is in not :)

Exactly what I thought after I wrote that. Amazing how all the pundits and the media are reacting to the result. You'd think that they'd just been beaten by Barrowford Celtic the way they are talking. They are a slightly better than average PL club that believe they are better than they are. At least 3 reports have mentioned that they are now 30 points behind Liverpool, like that even matters. It's not as though they were being mentioned as potential title winners before the season started. United and their fans never change, their sense of entitlement is outrageous, they seem to forget that prior to the PL era they had fairly long periods of being a very average club with a big support, including that marvelous season when they were relegated (oh how we all laughed).
The further that dreadful football club fall the better as far as most fans are concerned I think. If you pick up the average tabloid you have to get past pages of United b*ll*cks before you get to real football news. Come to think of it I'd sooner support Barrowford Celtic than United (do they still exist by the way - does anyone know).
