Pope's pen save - Turning point of the season
What does everyone think?
Re: Pope's pen save - Turning point of the season
Definitely the single moment when belief returned en masse.
Re: Pope's pen save - Turning point of the season
Mentioned this on another thread on Sunday pointing out that not only did that save lift the crowd and team leading to the win but it could be the turning point in our season.

Think that’s a little simplistic to be honest. We were drawing 1-1, arguably on top and playing well at that point so don’t think it was a turning point per se. That said, the performance and win on Sunday was definitely a springboard for tonight’s performance and the players and fans alike had so much more belief.

Had he not saved that, the atmosphere wouldn’t have turned but belief could’ve drained a bit like Taylor’s missed pen vs Leicester a few years ago.
Biggest turning point though was Saturday in general. That save. The win. The comeback from behind. And the crowd.

Nope. When that J Rod "thunderbastard" hit the net - THAT - was when everyone believed. We are talking Man U. at Old Trafford. Whole different animal.
The pen save no doubt "won" the Leicester game, but you could see the belief in team after that second goal - no way were we going to lose that game - or get relegated.
Dyche Out!

Re: Pope's pen save - Turning point of the season
Last two games we, as a team, have had a few critical things happen and combined have turned us around massively.
Pope's save.
Westwood's FGoal.
Taylor's goal-saving tackle on Martial
Mee and Tarks absolutely dominating the box when under pressure last night
Jayrod's Thuderbolt
etc. (I am sure there are more)
The combination has completely turned around our fortunes and the belief from the players and the fans.
Dyche somehow managed to re-install that fire and desire to win at a point when it would have been easy to lose confidence completely. It's been an absolute pleasure to see that complete about-turn.

I get the sentiment, but I’d say the save just after half time was the crucial one. That goes in, it’s 0-2 and game over. Momentum stopped, belief and confidence gone. Yeah, that save was MY turning point.
Not to take away from the penalty save, which was great and no doubt influential....

Re: Pope's pen save - Turning point of the season
Talking at h/t on Sunday to my son and we felt we needed something like a 'crunching tackle'(not much chance these days) or a storming run towards goal to lift everyone's spirits. Like bobinho, I felt Pope's save down to his right was outstanding and turned out to be most vital keeping us in the game. Having got level the penalty save maintained the belief that a point from the game was on.It got better than that so we may look back on the save from Vardy as pivotal.

Villa on News years day as the players left the pitch with SD at half time, the fans told them that the football wasn't good enough with choice language.
It shocked them. They came out a different animal playing good football in the 2nd half.
It was a change in the style that kept the fans with them.

Very true. Mee and Tarks looked shell shocked at the reaction.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 4:05 pmVilla on News years day as the players left the pitch with SD at half time, the fans told them that the football wasn't good enough with choice language.

Re: Pope's pen save - Turning point of the season
In hindsight Pope's penalty save was a massive moment in our season,Vardy scores the Pen and Leicester likely go on to win comfortably, and who knows what impact yet another defeat would have had on our morale ahead of a trip to United.
In the same way Deeney's penalty miss against Spurs has appeared to have seriously halted Watford's revival, they lost at the death to Villa in a huge 6 pointer, and then their 2nd XI meekly succumbed to League 1 Tranmere,in a cup replay that should never have been required, shows how quickly small incidents can prove pivotal over the course of a long season.

Still a long way to go for the bottom half of the Table and as SD says 'one game at a time"-or someone said it
