Incident in first half

Post by SlidingTackle » Thu Jan 23, 2020 8:52 am

Seeking confirmation of something I saw whilst watching on a dodgy feed last night...… .

We were defending and Tarkowski belted it out behind the goal for a corner at the Stretford End.

He hit it low and hard and it directly struck a ballgirl(?) crouched down against the advertising hoardings.

Even though we were defending the resultant corner, he ran over to said ball girl and consoled her and kissed her on top of her head whilst also retrieving the ball and throwing it back to her (thus, in a small way buying himself to some time to get back into position).

I just need to hear that someone else saw this. Spoke VOLUMES for the grounded attitude of our (non-superstar) players.

Just brilliant.

Didn’t see that. But one thing I do love about our squad (and you can see how Dyche values it so much) is their attitude and personality.

No doubt they aren’t all angels all of the time. But how often do you ever read anything in the papers about any of our players? Especially anything negative.

Most people outside Burnley wouldn’t know them if they saw them in the street. With the odd exception like Hart and possibly Bardsley.

Rodriguez the epitome of all of that.

All seem proper grounded.

Yes I noticed that. Didn’t think he’d hit it that hard but apologised straight away and went straight over.

I saw it and I thought it was fantastic from Tarky. I didn't think it was in any way a means of slowing down the play, he looked genuinely concerned for the ball girl (person)

Excellent fellow messageboarders…..

I knew these old eyes weren't failing me!!!

We (our team, our players) have proper values - Dyche sees to that.

Part of our often derided recruitment policy.

But I am happy with it for this reason alone.

Careful. Are you allowed to touch children these days?

It's not just at Burnley. In the Villa/Watford match Watford were in the tunnel waiting for Villa. The Villa mascots were lined up like little lost souls waiting too. Troy Deeney went across and spoke to them all and shook hands with them. Nice touch from the skipper.

Yes. You’re just not allowed to molest them. Not that difficult to get your head round.

Try getting involved in an activity that involves kids and listen to the advice (and in many cases instruction) from the various bodies/individuals who cover safeguarding. Ask them if consoling by touching and kissing on the top of the head would be "OK".

The implication you make towards the previous poster that they can't tell the difference between behaviour which is innocent but absolutely not recommended and child molestation is beneath contempt. But you have my contempt anyway.

Eh? I’m not at all suggesting Hipper doesn’t know the difference, I’m just disagreeing that, for example, a kiss on the head in the above context would clearly not be misconstrued as being inappropriate.
Having said that I do realise that in other situations the issue is potentially more complex,
My intention is certainly not to offend anyone.

Sorry, it was a silly little quip based on my similar thoughts to thatdberight.

I didn't want this thread to detract from Tarkowski's gesture. Or Ings when he did something similar with a disabled fellow at the Turf.

We weren't too far off that incident, having to sit in the Stretford end, he was concerned he'd hurt her but I don't think he hit her too hard.

Yes, they don't all stand up, just a section of a couple of thousand. We were over to the left opposite side to the tunnel, quite high up so we did get a good view of it.

My 2 boys were mascots against Watford a couple seasons back and Deeney went out of his way to speak to them both. They said he was a really nice bloke
