Pretty much the same all over the country.
Drinking habits have changed.
You don't finish work and go to the pub for a couple before your meal. any more.
Many of the younger folk don't go out til later now and, are half cut when they do on cheaper supermarket stuff... and anything else that's going.

Someone has too much time on there hands to be driving around on the same frosty/snowy day taking photos of old boozers.

Cant believe I watched it all but wasnt at all surprised with the bnp link at the end.

Most of those places were dumps. That clip is 10 years old. Last year more bars opened in Burnley than closed. There’s a market for well run establishments providing a quality product. If you’re nostalgic about things like this go drinking in The Oxford.

One or Two Burnley players from the 1914 FA Cup Final and 1921 Div 1 Championship winning teams went onto own pubs around Burnley. The Grey Mare Gannow Lane being one, and I can’t at this time just think of his name. It wasn’t a healthy atmosphere to live in then, from the stench of pipe and cigarette smoke in the pubs. Young ones reading this wouldn’t understand what it was like to be on a bus or in a Tap Room of a pub full of smokers.

the 'dirty donkey' was a great little boozer for us locals , always packed on a weekend. The Derby too, my mates Dad was the Landlord and he was rough but the pub was alright. Don't get me started om Dickie Pinks though

Pubs are **** anyway. £3 for warm **** and stand around with people you don't want to be with.

The world has changed. We all hate each other now.

Rose and Crown is still going.

The brewries just got too greedy with their prices so people sopped going. Obviously there will be many other contributing factors, but that always seemed to be one of the biggest.

It hasn't occured to you that, this phenomenon only seems to takes place when you're in the pub? No!?

The list on that video is by no means exhaustive or anywhere near the full extent. Before it (ironically) closed recently, the Ministry of Ale had literally scores of pictures of closed down pubs in Burnley adorning the walls. It was fascinating tbh and surprising how quickly you forget.

A good pub is a rare find these days . They usually look like **** holes from outside so put off the ‘look at me ‘types but can be an oasis of peace and quiet and a good pint .
Time was your mum and your dad and your brothers and sisters and aunties and uncles were all in the pub , ladies in the lounge and fellas in the tap room. Those were the days . No one had a phone so you could bullshit your mrs and be in the pub . If anyone rang the pub looking for you the barman would say he hadn’t seen you .

I’ve not got sky sports or BT sport at home deliberately... she thinks I’m being sensible and trying to save money but it’s so I can nip to the club for 3 pints and watch the odd mid week game

MikeS, regarding those pubs on Padiham Rd/Westgate I went in nearly all of them in my youth: a fair few of them were closed down to make way for the M65 motorway development.

Captain Tommy Boyle was landlord of the Pedestrian Inn, which stood where the Library is now.

When I started working in the late seventies an old bloke I worked with said there used to be a charity night starting in the grey mare on Gannow Lane where you got a thimble of beer it was doubled next pub etc after 4 pubs you were on a half then pint then 2 then 4 etc and the challenge was to get to the town centre via Padiham Road nobody ever made it. You paid to to get the tick card, pubs subsidised the sale of ale business sponsored it as well. Is this just legend ?

I've been in many a local pub when the phone has rang,
The barman holds the phone aloft & shouts out " has anybody seen Alf tonight". The whole room says out loudly " no, not tonight" with Alf sat in the corner with his pint.

The beer in pubs is far better these days, as is the choice. The only down side is that the pubs are closing and being replaced by micro pubs, that have little atmosphere
