Re: The Outsider
Not watched it yet, but I read the book.
It is a continuation in the style of my favourite Stephen King books, Mr Mercedes. Mr Mercedes is also on amazon via the StarzPlay service. It is very faithul to the books.

Re: The Outsider
I’m really enjoying it too. Third episode slowed it down a bit but the first two were breakneck with twists aplenty.
Have not read the book so enjoying watching the mystery develop.

Re: The Outsider
No idea what happened there!!!
Re: The Outsider
Very mature, well written script. Goes all-in on the 'every frame is a painting' approach to film. Dialogue subtext, performances, directing, editing - all superb. It seems as though every premium TV show tries to be a mystery box series these days but it's genuinely earned in this case, and that makes sense, it being (ostensibly) a detective story. Not read the book so don't know if, or to what extent, it's gonna' go all Lovecraftian (no spoilers please!) but it's great so far, and has a bit of the vibe of the first season of True Detective.

You've no idea how ridiculously apropos that glitch is on this thread, Darnhill.

Re: The Outsider
Enjoyed most of the book but was left slightly disappointed by the end so I wasn’t going to watch this. Thought I’d give it a go and pleasantly surprised by the first couple of episodes. Had the potential to be very cheesy, especially with Jason Bateman who is more suited to comedy roles, but so far so good. The cinematography is great.
Re: The Outsider
Bateman is quality in thriller dramas. Ozark anotherRileybobs wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 10:29 amEnjoyed most of the book but was left slightly disappointed by the end so I wasn’t going to watch this. Re: The Outsider
Haven't seen the series yet but I really enjoyed the first two-thirds of the book, but thought it's conclusion was weak and it was a struggle to see it through in the end.
Re: The Outsider
I’ve got a feeling the ending is going to be poor

Re: The Outsider
Just watched 3 episodes on the bounce, first two were intriguing the third saw the series starting to take a turn into the ridiculous....I'll stick with it though its intriguing
Re: The Outsider
If by ridiculous you mean the show leaning more into the supernatural, the clues/hints toward it were there from episode 1. It's Stephen King after all. Accept it for supernatural horror and it makes more sense.

Re: The Outsider
The music is absolutely fantastic in this and sets every scene up,although the lighting is poor,I know it sets the scene for the dark programme but at times my Tele is just a blank screen.
Re: The Outsider
Tomorrows eps is rated 9.9

Re: The Outsider
Just seen the first 4 episodes this morning.
The first 2 episodes, I had to keep reminding myself it was from a Stephen King novel, as it just seemed like any other crime drama.
It seems pretty good though, but you have to pay attention as some of it is quite bizarre.

Just finished watching it all.
Wasn't impressed.

Re: The Outsider
Would have to agree.
First episode I was hooked, by the tenth I was thoroughly bored.
Re: The Outsider
Anyone who hasn't watched it should ignore my earlier gushing about this show. Utter shyte by the end. Butchered a potentially brilliant story and production by trudging out ten episodes where six would have sufficed. It really nosedives after four episodes and doesn't recover. I've seen discussion online where people pointing this out are sometimes met with the response, 'slow burns aren't for you. Go watch The Avengers' or similar nonsense. There's a line this show crosses where 'slow burn' becomes 'terrible pacing'.

Re: The Outsider
Gave up after about 6 episodes which left me wondering how the hell they could draw the story out for another 4. The problem with the book, like most of Stephen King’s, is that after a really great start they just drag on and then end unsatisfactorily. The shortcomings of the book were clear so I’ve no idea why they didn’t avoid the same mistakes on the tv series. This should have been 6 episodes maximum, and even then they probably should have had an episode giving a little insight into Jason Bateman’s character rather than diving straight into the action.
Re: The Outsider
I've given up to a few of the overlong series recently...... glad someone else thinks the same, I thought it was my age.Spiral wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 9:33 pmAnyone who hasn't watched it should ignore my earlier gushing about this show. Liked each series of your programme though, well worth persisting with the French subtitles & a fine denoument
