Not surprising really, until the club start doing 10 pounds for adults and kids a quid (as many others have suggested on here), gates at cup games are going to be pitiful. How disheartening must it be for a home team to play in a stadium almost two-thirds empty, no wonder they struggle to get motivated. They're professionals and should be up for it anyway, but it's almost understandable.

I would have loved to be a professional footballer and to have played in front of 2000 people never mind 8000 or 60000. It’s a great way to earn a living and they should be giving 100% every game.

A reflection of the club not doing cheap tickets or the general demise of the FA Cup?

Could have been free and I wouldn't have bothered going.

I'm a season ticket holder, but I won't pay to watch a Burnley side that has Aaron Lennon in the staring line up.

Originally I was against extending his contract but after that comment I’d support giving him a new 5 year deal to keep you away.

Maybe for you there is, perhaps I'll go back to cup games when you are running the club.

Theres many a fan that dont bother with cup games due to the last few seasons approch/mentality towards them.

The fact is we’re a relatively small club with season ticket holders who only want to watch us play in the Premier League or glamour ties. Same at most clubs across the land.

I don't know what Newcastle did with their ticket prices but there were 52,000 at their game against third division Oxford.

I buy a season ticket out of loyalty. But not blind loyalty.
I'd probably had gone if we'd have given some of our younger players a run out, but I don't fancy watching a game showcasing some of our poor signings.
My money my choice. It's about a 140 mile round trip for me.

As I've mentioned in other posts, traditionally season ticket holders don't bother with cups. Low attendances in the FA cup are not a recent phenomenon as some would like to point out. In the decent cup run under Stan there was 5,500 for a replay with Grimsby.

The only FA cup games I can remember going recently were City away and Sunderland at home. I've very little interest in going to watch the FA cup and it has nothing to with the so called "approch/ mentality " . I always like it when UTC posters know many / plenty of fans who do certain things, you sound like cricketfieldclarets, he knows plenty of fans who aren't renewing etc.

Maybe when you're in the pub pre or post match and 80% of your group states " I'm not going on the cup games, I've fell for that too many times" for whatever reasons it seems SD, the players etc dont seem interested in the cuo games, they arent worth the hassle, the price for what's usually a dull affair watching fringe players looking disinterested" is a fair gauge to say I know a few that arent going for the aforementioned reasons.

Just over 7k home fans kind of shows that point, people ( you ) saying they arent interested in the FA cup, but id bet my mortgage people would bo doubt go if we ever got to a semi or final. The interest would suddenly increase, they'd all of a sudden be 30k interested in the cup then.

When choosing to attend games, the competition it's in is usually very low on the list when deciding.

Price, value, potential quality of the game, convenience, day/time of kick off all come before "oh it's the fa cup, I dont want to watch my team play football because it's in the FA cup"

But if that's genuinely you, fair one.
It's the first time I've ever heard of that though.

I know plenty who aren't interested in the FA cup, must be the company I keep. As I keep pointing out, season ticket holders traditionally cannot be bothered forking out for the cup in January or be bothered to get a ticket. It's been happening for years , nothing to see here unfortunately.

Edit. Just over 3,500 Burnley fans watched the FA cup game in 2009 v west Brom who were in PL at time. This was during the Coyle glory years.

Edit edit. There wasn't 10k on for the Spurs FA Cup game not that long back.

£10 adults, £5 under 18's, and for a limited time £1 for under 12's, and they filled the stadium! Hope BFC learn the lesson for cup games next season!

Not sure just how this would work seeing as the team is only announced a couple of hours before ko! So when you turn up for league game and find out the he's in the he starting line up I presume that you just go home? :D

It's possibly partly that but the main reason is people don't want to pay good money to watch two half teams.

There's a lot of reasons the cup games are poorly attended.
It isn't part of the season ticket, therefore is additional cost (not sure if cheaper tickets would make much difference).
We don't play our best team, and often discover why those that play can't get into the first team.
We lose against poor teams... where is the incentive to go and watch that?

I must be very misguided because I always thought that it was about supporting your team and encouraging them to do well when they are not playing as well as you would like or you know that they can. I now realise that it is really a case of saying that it isn't really Burnley that are playing because we are fielding squad members so it isn't our first team.
Playing in a stadium which is well under 50% full and had no real atmosphere on Saturday is not helping the players in any way at all. Yes, they are professional and want to win, however, when the crowd is backing them it can make a big difference, look at Shrewsbury yesterday when the crowd got right behind their players and they responded magnificently.

It s the FA Cup and I was on the ground in 1975, a season which saw us finish 10th in the top division of English football, and we lost to non-League side Wimbledon in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, in spite of us fielding our strongest side. Strangely, this defeat never stopped me going to cup ties since then, even though we lost to a 'poor' team. That is my choice and always will be, however, it is up to each individual as to what they choose to do but don't moan when we do not have a cup run if you can't be bothered going to support.

This constant need to justify why or why you don’t go to games / plan to get a season ticket is getting more bizarre.

Oh I get that, absolutely... but personally I support a team because I enjoy it not because I feel obliged to.
There is a snowball effect, I don't feel the want to travel to Burnley, as I do for league games, when not only are the players to the same standard (2nd string Premier League or lower league) and the atmosphere isn't as good because others feel the same way.

£10 for adults £5 seniors/U18s etc £1 u12s for cup ties in january seems reasonable after the christmas period? Bigger crowd and bigger matchday sales food/drink programmes souvenirs from the club shop?

Both clubs have to be in agreement as to the price of admission. In Newcastle's case I am sure that Oxford would not kick up about the prices when there was always the possibility that the reduction in prices would attract more fans and would put more money in their funds.

I thought prices were now set by the home club only?

Targetman --yes, you are correct. It is only in the qualifying rounds that the prices have to be agreed between the clubs. Once they are finished and the competition proper starts the prices are the responsibility of the home side.
Sorry for the error --too many years being involved in the qualifiers with various clubs!

What would you do if we got unlucky with injuries and had to start a league game with Hart, Long, Lennon and any others you deem unworthy of playing?

It didn’t help that we were drawn against Norwich, a team we are already playing twice this season, who I’m sure no one is overly excited about seeing us play a third.

Had we got Preston, Blackpool, Bolton etc I imagine the crowd would have been much larger.

Like I say, the reason I don't go is the additional cost and travel (2hr round trip). I love football, just not enough to watch Norwich's reserves. The reason I don't go to every away game is because of the cost of time and money. Maybe I'm just not committed enough

Like I say, the reason I don't go is the additional cost and travel (2hr round trip). I love football, just not enough to watch Norwich's reserves. The reason I don't go to every away game is because of the cost of time and money. Maybe I'm just not committed enough
I'll be honest with you, your post read as if you wouldn't travel to watch Burnley's second string, not the opposition's. Hence the question
