Newcastle (a) - General Info Thread

For any general information that could assist for supporters going to the game at Newcastle - but not for ticketing or coach travel issues which are covered on other threads.

It's going to be Northern's last day of operating the train franchise for anyone travelling that way.

One of the problems in terms of parking is it being bang in the city centre

I'm booked from York on TPE but need to use Northern to get to York (unless I pay about three times the price). Might set off on Friday night to be on the safe side.

There's a park and ride according to the visitor guide
https://www.nufc.co.uk/stadium/
Driving to somewhere like Durham or Chester-le-street and getting a train in could be an option too.

Last time we went we parked at a hospital that had a big multi-storey, pretty much 5 minutes walk from the ground. Was fine getting away as well, might be a bit harder on a Saturday mind.

Theres a lot of parking near the Arena, a small walk to the ground still, but handy for getting away.
Warning, we used it for a night match, and I don't know what it is like on a Saturday.

Worth mentioning on this thread for anyone who hasn't been before and finds the idea of climbing the ridiculous number of stairs (152 of them) quite daunting.

There is a lift to take you up, otherwise I don't know whether I'd ever get there. I'd just not arrive at the last minute when it can be very busy. Wanting to use the lift going down is more difficult because those wanting to use it are all doing so at the same time.

The Bodega's a great boozer. Decent size, footy on, near the ground, great beer and away fan friendly.

The Victoria Comet opposite the station is a good real ale pub, the Centurion bar on the station is decent and the Bodega is a fine watering hole.

The Forth and Tilleys are decent as well but no footy on. There's quite a nice little crawl from Central Station to the ground via Pink Lane and Westgate Road.

You could use Times Square car park. It's just off the Redheugh Bridge which is one of the main routes into the city from the A1. I used it Saturday gone when they played Norwich, got there about 13:15 and there was plenty of space. Probably about 10 minutes walk from the ground and may be 5 or 6 quid for the duration. Handy to get away after the game as well.

There’s a really handy NCP car park in the centre of Bristol. It’s not the cheapest, NCP never are, but it’s close to all the local amenities so should be perfect for you.

I think that's the bridge we've used in previous seasons and we've parker around there.

Hiya

Not often I have driven to a game there but when I have i parked here.

https://www.getintonewcastle.co.uk/venu ... n-car-park

Free after 5 which is a plus although I don’t know the rate after 2/3 Hours it maybe you will have to pay the daily rate but it is cheaper than the NCP one for example. It’s right in the centre 10-15 min walk to ground and similar to food places at the gate or Eldon Square.

The only concern would be traffic around here should the redhuegh bridge be closed as it has been a lot recently.

Edit - Just a thought as well if you are into your Indian food Akbar’s is right next to the Car Park might be you get some food before heading back to home.

I think the multi storey at an hospital mentioned above would be the RVI hospital Car Park I would avoid this I had to go with my son recently it was absolute chaos getting in. Although Saturday may be different I would suspect visiting etc would make it a similar experience.

I used a site I always use when parking in city's

www.yourparkingspace.co.uk

I booked this car park for 3.50 all day
Dex Car Park, New Bridge Street West, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 8AB

It's in the city centre and about an 8 minutes walk to the ground

Anybody else risking this train?

I only paid £25.50 return. Bargain if trains run on schedule! Got a railcard with a mate for away games which takes 30% off fares.

We booked the 8.20 train in case it doesn't turn up and we have another couple that could get us there.
A few clarets I know on the 9.20.

Going to Newcastle for a drink and make use of the city centre.

Also travelling on the 8.45 train from Preston to York, quick stop off in the station tap, and then on to Newcastle

Getting a bit nervous with it being northerns last day and also with the weather looking a little bit iffy at the moment!

Fingers crossed that the trains run on time for once!!
