1m less than we paid. We’ve rarely played him and he’s never scored here and he’s not long left on his deal and almost thirty.williamjblazkowicz wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 9:32 amBristol City have our pants down if Wells is only going there for £4mil. Hope it's more than that!
I’d say four million is a result.

With the way the market is heading, I'd have expected more for a striker who has scored so many in the Championship this season, particularly when selling in the January transfer window. However, I'm not privy to whether there were other offers for Wells, for how much etc. If this is the best we can do then so be it. Brownhill looks a promising acquisition.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 11:04 am1m less than we paid. It's good business all round, the first, relatively inexpensive step towards a part-rebuild of the squad and gives us a timely boost to get the three or so wins we need.
Plenty of dosh, irrespective of what happens with Vydra, Hart, Lennon and so on, for the Summer.

QPR wanted to sign Nakhi Wells as soon as news broke that Burnley were recalling him from his loan arrangement with Lee Hoos commenting "Our current valuations on the player are far apart and we cannot agree to a deal which will leave us in breach of FFP'."
Either QPR did not value Nakhi Wells as worth £4m or they were quoted a higher figure to sign him maybe?

Re: Brownhill having medical
I like Jack, he gives 100% every game, but he is far too lightweight. We need some muscle in the middle of the park, and Jack is soft, he regularly ends on his backside when he tries to tackle someone. Opposition walking through our midfield has been a long standing issue, and although Jack can't take all the blame for this, he is definitely the weakest link. Westwood is definitely more of a terrier nipping at your ankles type, and is more creative, more often, than Jack as well. There'll still be a roll for both at this club, but I hope Brownhill can be the midfielder we've been crying out for since D4 first went sick.ashtonlongsider wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 10:52 amI know it's all about opinions but for the life of me I can't understand why some people think any new midfield, who we may or may not sign will replace Jack Cork. JC has been more or less ever present since he returned at the start of the 17/18 season and has been a major contributor to our success. I personally don't see that situation changing any time soon.

I think the answer is never to believe the figures that you sometimes see quoted.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 11:18 amQPR wanted to sign Nakhi Wells as soon as news broke that Burnley were recalling him from his loan arrangement with Lee Hoos commenting "Our current valuations on the player are far apart and we cannot agree to a deal which will leave us in breach of FFP'."

And I know exactly what we will get for him if the deal goes through, the same as we get for every player we sell or we pay for any incoming player - UNDISCLOSED

Re: Brownhill having medical
Will we actually seen Brownhill play for Burnley?
I'm sure Dyche has used most of his latest signings as bench warmers, to put pressure on the existing players in an attempt to get more out of them.
Jay Rod only starts now because Barnes is injured.

Wether its 4 for Nakhi, and 10 for Brownhill, or 24 for Nakhi and 30 for Brownhill, the cost is the same to us. Except that we don't have to pay anything to Udders.
I'm sure a cash only deal to QPR would have been a lot more then 4 million.

Re: Brownhill having medical
Just having a look here at the positions in which Brownhill has played this season. Obviously a centre mid by trade but has played on the right a couple of times.
Could this be the Jeff Hendrick replacement in advance?

Re: Brownhill having medical
A lot of clubs do this now and a few years ago Wolves pulled out of a deal because the other club insisted on the details being made public.
I think one reason is that the deals are always so complicated financially so you pay a fee for a player that could be the final fee but could then go up if triggers are met such as appearances, goals, international caps. Jay Rod's was one such deal I know of to Southampton. We got extra money every time he reached a set number of games up to a maximum. It was the same when Brian Easton signed for us, we had to pay more to Hamilton at certain points.
Then, of course, you get all the confusion of the Andre Gray signing from Brentford, although Luton stuck their noses into that one because of what they were getting and we were able to piece it all together.
So imagine we sign a player for £20 million (I know we won't) and then it suddenly goes up to £25 or even £30 million because of what he's achieved at Burnley.
I don't know if all that's the reason but we, as a club, ensure all deals are undisclosed as much as we can.

Surely the ‘points’ Brian Easton reached should have had Hamilton paying us!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 11:38 amA lot of clubs do this now and a few years ago Wolves pulled out of a deal because the other club insisted on the details being made public.

In the main I don't have an issue with the club (any club) not publicising the fees on transfers, although it does then lead to lots of hot air and speculation on message boards! But I always assume that the EXACT details of any and every deal must be given to the PL or FL in some way so that when clauses are triggered, whatever they may be, possibly years down the line, other clubs get precisely what's due to them and there's no dispute or reneging.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 11:38 amA lot of clubs do this now and a few years ago Wolves pulled out of a deal because the other club insisted on the details being made public.

I am sure they have but can't spend it because of breaching FFP as mentioned in my post.
And even if they didn't they could easily swell their coffers by selling on some of their exciting young talent like Eze.

Brownhill Ave, Harry Potts Way, Adamson St, Brown St, Randall St, Murray St, Heath St, Basnett St,Dawson Sq, Shackleton St, Lawson St, Talbot St, Lindsey/Lyndsey St, Branch Rd, Higgin St. All out of top of my head. There’s probably more player name connections.

If all of the transfer dealings were "undisclosed" Jim White would not be able to go into meltdown claiming excitedly "Spending in this January window already tops £1.5 billion and rising".

I’m glad us paupers are signing someone , shame about Podence looked a great player against us. Fourtounis also, swapping Athens for Burnley though is a big ask though.
Definitely gave Bristol a sweet deal but prob our only chance of getting the player in , well done to BFC!

Re: Brownhill having medical
You sure about this? He wears number 8 and as far as I've seen he's of the Hendrick irk.
He's an attacking midfielder who may be able to play right side and might do so swapping with wingers who cut in from time to time (City tend to play 4141) but his natural position is almost certainly central.
Can't wait to see what he can do, Central or not. Maybe he'll turn up to games more than Hendrick does.

Ah John Deary, great engine, could tackle, box to box midfielder with a few goals in him ... great at that level for us.
Who can forget him grabbing Dean Kiely by the throat, and pinning him into the back of the net after he'd hacked down Robbie Painter ( ? ) as he wheeled away to celebrate our equalizer at York ??

Wells’ goals this season have helped us recoup a good fee. If you’d have told me a year ago we might get a decent fee for him I’d have been amazed.

Re: Brownhill having medical
Don't understand the logic of the posters appearing gleeful Huddersfield won't get anything out of it. They would not be getting 100% of the profit so we still get more money for Wells even if Town get a % provided we can sell him for more than we paid for him which apparently we can't. There is no upside for us not to maximise the amount of money Wells is going for. We are selling him for the most we can get. IF QPR were able to pay a larger sum in cash than Bristol he would have been sold to QPR and the extra cash converted into payment for Brownhill.

9-5, 10-6, 11-7, 12-8 and so on ad finitum. The net cost remains the same but we have
struck a deal that avoids us having to pay anything to Huddersfax.
Very slick dealing in my book, but why do some people fail to understand the logic behind this deal ?
Leave it to the pro's who are totally in the know and not shooting in the dark like we all are.
Onwards and upwards rode the mighty Clarets.
