Wolves new signing
Just seen on Sky Sports that Wolves are close to signing Daniel Podence from Olympiakos for 16 million. Thought he looked very good against us and sure he scored their goal at the Turf?
Could be a good signing for that price

Re: Wolves new signing
Scored 3 goals in 15 games this season in the Greek league, and 5 in 27 last season or something. Not exactly tearing up what must be league one level?
I’d be very worried if we were shelling out £16m on a player with those stats.

Re: Wolves new signing
Can only go off what I have seen....but thought he was excellent against us last season
Re: Wolves new signing
Think that's a bit harsh. It will be a far better standard than League 1. And the player in question ran rings around us out in Athens.

Destroyed us?? He scored the goal (a tap in)...
Their main player over the two games was their no 7, Fortounis. He was excellent and head and shoulders above anyone else on their team.

So some are crying out for a European scouting network. Wolves seem to be doing that and sign a player then their league is not good enough for us to recruit from.............
Re: Wolves new signing
Boysie. Its pretty obvious from your contributions that you know more than most football administrators and managers. When you were alerted to the talents of Daniel Prodence in the games against Burnley, and pushed for his signature, do you think the fact that he had only signed for Olympiakos 4 weeks before that might have made it a tricky deal to conclude?

Re: Wolves new signing
A forward though.
Wingers should score goals for me. Although I understand that’s not something we’re used to at the Turf at the moment

So why not go for him last summer ?

Re: Wolves new signing
We’re a mid-table Prem team though (currently, long season yet, etc). If you assume the Prem is the, or one of the, top leagues in the world, we should be fishing in the equivalent other top leagues in the world.
Not saying there isn’t the odd gem in the Greek league or other lesser leagues (see Halaand) but I would be worried if Burnley were dropping £16m on a player from the Greek league.
Re: Wolves new signing
Not sure, we could have done for all you know. Why didn't Wolves or the other clubs go for him last summer?
Burnley is always going to be a hard sell as long as we keep a control on our wage structure which we absolutely have to.
Re: Wolves new signing
What about Cutrone? Lasted six months at Molineux.

Wolves have Jorge Mendes in their pocket. Or Jorge Mendes has Wolves in his pocket.
Either way, it’s not something most clubs can compete with.

Them stats are irrelevant for a winger. Prob scored more than ours
Re: Wolves new signing
Yep, and we are super prudent by PL standards when it comes to agent fees, which certainly goes against us.agreenwood wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 3:32 pmWolves have Jorge Mendes in their pocket. Or Jorge Mendes has Wolves in his pocket.

See my post below, where I acknowledged they would have.
Wingers should score goals, in my opinion.
But my broader point is I think £16m for a player from the Greek league is a massive risk unless he’s absolutely ripping it up, which his stats don’t suggest he is for a forward.

Re: Wolves new signing
Just a thought on this transfer - The agent of this player is Mendes - https://twitter.com/tariqpanja/status/1 ... 3622401024

Re: Wolves new signing
I wonder are there fans out there who would actually take the time to ring up the club and offer unsolicited transfer advice. The answer is probably `yes'. I wonder who at the club has to entertain such callers?
Re: Wolves new signing
Mendes engineered his move away from Sporting, and then has moved him a second time to another club he is heavily involved with, Wolves.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 3:54 pmJust a thought on this transfer - The agent of this player is Mendes - Olympiakos "bought" him from a Portuguese club that Mendes owns - he is now moving to a Club that Mendes has an "extreme" level of interest in - modern football eh
We’re not in bed with agents, and rightly so, but all those moaning and groaning why we don’t sign certain foreign players need to understand how modern football and the transferring of players REALLY works.
Re: Wolves new signing
Were we in bed with agents when we ended up with Penny, Van der Schaff and Guerrero?

Re: Wolves new signing
Wolves are light years away from us in spending power, wages and recruitment.
The truth isn't relevant though because we are Burnley and we should be signing players before anyone else tries to make a move on them.
Especially those on here recommended at random by someone who knows how the football industry works.
