Re: ARTICLE: Midfielder Brownhill signs in
Good to finally get a deal over the line, at the long contract as well, but if he impresses i suppose he might become a saleable asset in a couple of years,7m is peanuts in the current market, and despite being only 24 he has a wealth of experience at league level, hopefully he can make the step up,but his stats are promising, and we might at last have a genuine goal threat from our midfield, which we've lacked since Arfield left.

I’d we could raid them for eliasson as well, either now or in the summer, we will have filled the 2 spots we’ve needed to for the last 2 years.

TONY-thanks for letting us know. Had written off tonight
We have signed a few players in the last few years that have joined us with niggles, injuries or not yet "match-fit",
Josh seems to have played quite a few games in the past 2-3 years so hopefully hits the ground running. I suspect no team changes for Sunday but a very welcome addition to the bench-with it being at home, hope he will come on.
Once settled in, and if Jeff refuses to sign, he will I think edge in front of him in the pecking order to feature and start

I would be happy to see us get all of our business done before deadline day.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 9:41 pmThis news has probably ruined deadline day for some posters!
What impresses me about some of the European clubs is that they always seem to get a big chunk of their work done before their windows even open - by taking advantage of pre-contracts and the like. The window opens and they just complete the paperwork and sign off on the transfers they have built up in the pipeline on the first day.
Central midfield sorted, good cover, new tactical options, active competition for the two central midfield positions and possibly more opportunities for Hendrick to play in central midfield.
Kettle on and feet up tomorrow. A nice relaxing day and any other incomings would be a bonus. Although I'm not that fussed if we don't sign anyone else. Increasing our central midfield options from three to four is what we had to do in this window as a matter of urgency.
Well done to our recruitment team for getting this one over the line with time to spare.
Brownhill is a good player and he seems like a good bloke. The fact that we got some cash for Nahki and he moved to a good club is also very welcome. He might not have played much while he was here, but Nahki always seemed to conduct himself like a professional and he did well for us out on loan.
I hope the lads are ready for candle lit sessions of Werewolf at the away games. Next stop, Codenames, The Resistance, The Insider and Fake Artist in New York.
I'm not sure what Westwood, our resident tea boy, is going to make of nut milk though. It has something of a Peter Kay catch phrase ring to it.
Welcome to Burnley Josh

Great signing, very happy with this.
If the sole extent of our activity is Brownhill in and Wells, Gibson, Vydra out I will be happy. It gets us in a great position for the overhaul needed in the summer by clearing out the deadwood. Good job by all involved on this one.

Re: ARTICLE: Midfielder Brownhill signs in
Squad size is academic in those two players case to me. They cost a combined £27m and have started three league games between them in 18 months.
If injuries/suspensions occurred to the positions they play in, we would pick other players ahead of them to play or change the formation, of that im certain. I don’t speak to Sean Dyche but you don’t need to be a mind reader to see they are not rated, haven’t worked out and have cost us a Hell of a lot of money. We need to recoup what we can and reinvest in the summer.
Just my perspective!

Re: ARTICLE: Midfielder Brownhill signs in
Brownhill is a more offensive centre mid (a lot keep referencing a right sided role, but everytime I have seen Bristol City he has played in the middle) and far quicker with his distribution than Westwood and Cork.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 11:41 pmCan I ask why please?

I believe the energy and box-to-box nature of him will give us something we haven’t had since Marney was firing on all cylinders (albeit with a bigger goal threat). I like Westwood, and Cork has been a good servant, but I think at times we lack a cutting edge through the middle and having someone quicker to spread the play and arrive late into the box (not to mention have a dig from distance) will give us something different.
I think it also opens up the option of a 451 with a bit of actual penetration coming from the middle, something our current personnel doesn’t allow us.

Re: ARTICLE: Midfielder Brownhill signs in
Perhaps it’s because he’s the Captain at a Championship pushing for promotion and, by reading the forum of his previous club, it appears he will be sorely missed. Plus the fact that SD likes him, makes him look like a good buy for me as well. Time will tell, but I’m not expecting to be disappointed.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 11:41 pmCan I ask why please?

Although I do have to say that if he plays in a 4-4-2 for us, he'll have the same cutting edge as Cork and Westwood has. It's the nature of our game.
But if it does open up the option of playing 5 in midfield with him playing in an advanced role, then that's great.

Must admit haven’t seen loads of him like everyone on here. But he’s a good age at a reasonable price with a long contract and comes in respected and experienced.
Don’t expect he will start straight away but an extra body in midfield was much needed. Let’s hope Hendrick Renews and we can get a right back right winger and striker in before next season.

Re: ARTICLE: Midfielder Brownhill signs in
Mixed reviews from what I've read from City fans.
He plays central naturally but the the seasons before 18-19 he played covering injuries on the right wing.
His change back to a central attacking role has increased his form dramatically and contributed to him scoring more... But in a central midfield three.
Works mostly in a CM 3 but can also be okay in a 2.
Physical, hard working but attacking with a good shot on him.
Weakness seems to be strength and range of passing but can run with the ball well.
Should be an upgrade on Hendrick but it's really hard to know since the premier league is so tough.
I really hope Dyche doesn't do a Boyd and play him on the right.
I guess this pretty much confirms the end of Hendrick at Burnley. He's probably already in talks with another club.

I haven't seen that much of him but when I have he's played in the central midfield role which is where we have the biggest gap in our squad and have had really since Defour suffered his last injury.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 11:47 pmBrownhill is a more offensive centre mid (a lot keep referencing a right sided role, but everytime I have seen Bristol City he has played in the middle) and far quicker with his distribution than Westwood and Cork.

He can’t be an upgrade on Hendrick- we’ve been told on this message board that to replace him would cost over 20 million.

Re: ARTICLE: Midfielder Brownhill signs in
Good signing this - good player, at a good age, for a very decent price in today's market. He'll provide an extra option immediately on the right hand side of our midfield four but he's got the potential to develop into that central midfield role.
I think expectations should be tempered - he's making a big step up, and like any player we sign, he's got a huge challenge on his hands in displacing the players who currently own the shirts - Cork, Westwood and Hendrick have earned their plces at this level and its never going to be straightforward to get ahea dof them in the pecking order.
If we can get Westwood tied down, and even better if we can persuade Hendrick to re-sign, then this will have been a good window. There's still a major rebuilding job to get stuck into in the summer, but it's a good start.

Happy with that, solid signing. A step in the right direction with regards to improving the first XI
Re: ARTICLE: Midfielder Brownhill signs in
A good signing. Not really anything not to like about this. The main priority was to sign a CM and weve done it. Next step a good right back and right midfield/ wing.
