Ignore the deliberate bumbling and lame jokes (especially if you don't like Boris Johnson personally) but please, please DO listen to the content of this speech:

It's all about Free Trade, the benefits it brings and what we can achieve outside of the EU.
This is essentially why I supported the Leave campaign. The EU has found itself on the wrong side of trade protectionism for far too long.

That's a bit of an awkward question Spijed.
I'm sorry to inform you that your name is no longer on the list and you won't be invited to further briefings.

Re: HAPPY BREXIT DAY EVERYONE!
Trump wants a wide-ranging free trade deal with the UK. This is not a "problem"; it is an opportunity.
His beef (and mis-placed protectionism) relates to mainly to countries (chiefly and almost solely China) who abuse free trade to steal trade secrets, flout trade treaties (on things like patents, trademarks, copyright) all to their own benefit and also for the benefit of their military.
Trumps "solution" may be wrong but the problem with Chinese practices is real. If they start playing nicely, we (the West) could get along just fine with the Chinese.

The evidence for Trump's protectionism is wider than China. He unilaterally re-wrote parts of NAFTA and handed it to Mexico and Canada to sign, and has thrown tariffs on EU products too. Even decades before Trump, NAFTA was regularly "broken" by the Americans - throwing tariffs on Canadian soft wood lumber, just to appease some US voters. We already know that US agribusiness wants us to bring down our standards in line with theirs on a range of things, while US healthcare, pharma, and health insurance companies want more access for their products within the NHS market. When you contrast this with the markets we're stepping back from (or more likely, putting obstacles in front of trade with them), it's a lose lose situation.Rowls wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2020 6:06 pmTrump wants a wide-ranging free trade deal with the UK. Maintaining a regulatory alignment with the EU doesn't prevent us from trading with other countries, and keeps us able maintain existing EU trade relationships.
Re: HAPPY BREXIT DAY EVERYONE!
It's a problem for us and an opportunity for America. A lot of people, yourself included, have staked a lot on getting a trade deal with the USA. They know this and they will, quite naturally, exploit it.
There is no special relationship, just business and Trump believes in bullying to get what he wants. Look what happened when a digital tax was mooted, Trump immediately threatened the UK with sanctions.
Anybody expecting any favours from the USA is kidding themselves.

Free trade is not about "favours". It's about free trade.
