Wayne Biggins

Post by Mala591 » Fri Jan 31, 2020 8:34 pm

Bit of a Marmite player but I liked him. I remember sitting three rows behind his greatest critic and three rows in front of his mum and girlfriend.

'...Biggins you useless *******...'

'...leave him alone he's doing his best...'

and so the critique continued for 90 minutes much to the amusement and entertainment of all within hearing distance

in fact it was usually more entertaining than the actual game!

...happy days...

The fact that he was brought in to replace Kevin Reeves didn't help but he did a decent job for us and went on to better things.

Bit harsh when your mum's saying that about you.

37 goals in 94 games for us - not bad for a young player who had come out of non league at Matlock

Remember seeing him play for Matlock against Buxton (our Derby) , before he started his league career. Did a good job for us. Made a good go of playing football.
Ended his career here at Buxton. Think he might have been coaching Buxton too. Before a certain Nicky Law became Bucks manager.

Thought he did. Buxton had sunk down the leagues at the time. Sure he left when Law became manager.
Presume Law is still with us? Never seem to hear about him.

Not seen him for a while but I think he is. They've removed the academy staff from the club website recently although that was of no use, there were people on the list who have been gone well over two years.

He did - think he might have scored that day in a 1-0 win.

Stoke could have done with him tonight.

Biggins, Grewcock and Hampton.

Has a ring to it for the front 3.

Been watching. Sad to see Sam struggling in a toothless side.

My eldests first Claret hero. Might have had more to do with his looks than his football but he did bag regularly for us.

He played at the highest level eventually didn't he? First Division with Norwich?

More than decent for us. From memory we lost him, Hird and Alan Taylor and it went downhill at a rate of knots after that.

He started slowly but got stronger the more he played, was lucky to have Grewcock and Tommy Hutch to provide for him. We should have all grown stronger but Burnley appointed Benson after Bond and we got relegated to the 4th Division with a very good squad on paper.

Wins at Gillingham were very rare and a good performance even more so - when we moved to Kent the Gillingham games were our “home games”

Always wonder what ex players are doing. Has his own pallet company in Sheffield according to linkedin.

Bumped into him after a game at Lincoln, we stayed over and he was out with friends.

He seemed a decent lad and happy to chat.

As mentioned above, I THINK he was bumming around in non league having not "made it" when we saw him and took a punt. He was more than decent at the level we were at and moved on to better things. Clearly something of a late developer and if I remember rightly David Eyres was very much the same.
