Transfer Windows...a question

Post by Petersa » Sat Feb 01, 2020 6:14 am

As not a young man anymore I can remember the time when there wasn't a transfer window just a deadline day in mid March.
Other than Sky TV and a bunch of of irritatatingly moronic has been players and journalists purporting to be experts, who or what does the transfer benefit? I honestly can't see what. Certainly not professional football

It benefits the clubs with tighter budgets. Stops teams with unlimited funds who are having a tough season buying there way out of trouble immediately. It also allows clubs with tighter budgets to keep hold of players that they could potentially use for a longer stretch. Promotes a more settled season for players, once the window closes they can focus on football at their club until the window.

Plenty of reasons to be fair.

I've often thought the opposite utcfcbk (you're not Barry Kilby by any chance?) in that those with unlimited funds buy up as much as possible to cover for injury crises etc thereby forcing up prices even further to the detriment of less wealthy clubs. The less wealthy have to rely on hope a lot more even more so since the loan market does not allow short term loans anymore. A case in point Burnley got away with when Tom Heaton was injured a few years ago, if Nick Pope had not come good then they would have been in serious trouble.

Post above is spot on.
When our Neighbours bought Duncan Shearer from Swindon it was to stop his goals from getting Swindon promoted. They’d been top and he was scoring for fun. Sadly it worked. Swindon missed the playoffs and they got promoted via them.
He only played 6 games in total for them, sold in the Summer.
