Re: Brentford
Brentford always "appear" a down to earth, well run club and remind me very much of another club much closer to my heart. They don't have zillions of fans and they are trapped in the heart of London being squeezed for support by the (far more fashionable) big boys on all sides. But the support they do have is loyal and stable and they could well end up reaching the PL WITHOUT throwing shed loads of money at it or running up huge debts. I always think they're doing well to be one of the better Championship sides on their budget, but it just shows what common sense, hard work, sensible planning and scouting and living within your means can get you. Good luck to them.

Benrahma looks good in that Brentford side. But I can’t rate an ultra-creative side until they’ve passed the test of playing our 4-4-2 at the Turf I’m afraid

No side are pushing WBA or Leeds for the top 2 spaces - let's hope Brentford don't do what the rest are doing and that's drop points when they have a chance of getting near to them.
Re: Brentford
I don’t mean to tempt fate but if we went down, even losing a couple of players, we should absolutely destroy this division.
The quality has declined significantly from 4 years ago. We came along at a time when teams were spending enormous money on quality players to achieve promotion, and we won the whole thing.
Now, teams like Derby, Boro, Sheff Wed no longer compete at the top because the finances have caught up with them. All because teams like us beat them to promotion.

Re: Brentford
I think Brentford flatter to deceive (much like Watkins and Benrahma). If they went up they would need some serious investment/recruitment. They might finish in the play offs, they might not. But they won't go close to going up automatically because they are so inconsistent.

Very exciting side going forward and solid at the back. Can see why they have the best attacking and defensive record in the league.

How poor are Hull, though? This Hull team would struggle in League One. Bowen and Grosiki were so important to them. Can see them slipping right down the league...

Re: Brentford
But Jakubs Tash said he flatters to deceive I now see why they rejected £20M from Villa in the summer, their front 3 alone must be worth close to £60M. They have that French U21 striker who must be worth a ton now too.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 2:31 pmSome player. And a great hat trick.

Probably around £5M paid for Watkins, Mbeumo and Benrahma.
Jensen in midfield they signed for a small fee, he was Danish league POTY a couple of years ago when he was 21 I think.

Even you could have scored against Hull today - that's how bad they were. But don't let that stop you getting a little stiffy in your pants....
People bang on about Brentford like they're this amazing club. I can only think of 3 of their players in recent history who have made it to the PL - two of them played for us and Maupay is the other.

Re: Brentford
That was a poor, dispirited side that Brentford met today. The ground seemed virtually empty, they'd just sold their two best players and replaced one of them with a div.1 player. If ever it was a good time to play Hull it was today and to be fair Brentford took full advantage. The type of performance Brentford put on was the sort that has got them near the top of their division; unfortunately the performance they put on against Forest in midweek is what keeps them away from the top. It's safe to say they are a good bet for promotion but it seems every set of games in that league changes the dynamic towards promotion.
They have a lot going for them currently though I don't think their record in 'key' games(v teams in contention with them) is overly impressive. Perhaps see where they are after 40 games though the way Leeds keep performing is offering more opportunities to more teams.

Re: Brentford
Some of the chasing pack are only 3 and 4 points behind Leeds. Brentford are one of those clubs.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 1:05 pmNo side are pushing WBA or Leeds for the top 2 spaces - let's hope Brentford don't do what the rest are doing and that's drop points when they have a chance of getting near to them.
Did you not look at the table before you posted? Not being factual there Frank.
Re: Brentford
I don't think this has been mentioned, but a large part of Brentford's success is due to the owner putting over £100 million of his own money into the club. Take that away and I suspect they would be at the bottom end of the Championship. I think it is also the case that Sheffield United will shortly be getting subsidies from the owners; perhaps they already are at least in the sense of guarantees.

Re: Brentford
Bit of a love in going on here with teams in red and white stripes, just need Sunderland to get into the automatic places and then we can have another thread.
Brentford play pretty football, have good recruitment and are moving to shiny new stadium, never been in the top division though, beat a bobbins Hull side yesterday and took a real shabby away following.
Sheff Utd have a billionaire backer a very good manager and play a unique system, have had one season in the premier league in last 20 years.
Burnley owned and run by Burnley fans, promoted twice into the Premier League and stayed in the premier league, one of the longest serving managers In football have a fantastic away following, ground improved massively in the last five years, new training facility in place, recruitment and style of football questionable, played in Europe.
All fantastic achievements, just need fans to remind themselves how far we have come on the last few years . UTC

Their defence looked pretty dodgy against Venkys last week, prone to the long toe-end up field.
