The turnaround in our defence
The turnaround in our defence
That's now just one goal conceded in three matches.
In the two previous games against Aston Villa and Chelsea our defending was shambolic to say the least.
What a difference a few weeks makes.

Re: The turnaround in our defence
We have got better each game
Today I never thought Arsenal would score unless we made silly errors or were the victim of dodgy decisions as is the norm v Gooners
We looked like a decent Premier league team

Defence starts at the front. And we look much better up there too. Taking shots, applying pressure, creating chances.

A lot to do with both full backs improving considerably, particularly Lowton,
as Charlie's been good for a while now.
Certainly at least the equal of lots of defences in the PL.

A lot to do with Jay. Nick's the ball a few times blocks and covers a lot of ground. Gives the defence more time.

Jay has made a massive difference, I love Bashley but he's not getting back in the team

Ben Mee gets a lot of stick on here, but the guy puts his body on the line for our club.....a Claret legend in my eyes.

A brilliant signing,i prefer him in the team to Barnes....we simply look a better team with him in the sidecblantfanclub wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 7:31 pmA lot to do with Jay. Nick's the ball a few times blocks and covers a lot of ground. Gives the defence more time.

One word, ‘confidence’. Everything changed when Pope made that penalty save from Vardy.

Re: The turnaround in our defence
Defensively we've suffered from some silly mistakes, that always got punished. Tarks against Chelsea, Charlie against Villa.
We still have the odd flutter, but we haven't been punished since.
My big gripe was the lack of positivity when we had the ball, and that has been loads better the last 3 games. The number of times we get the ball in the box. The number of players we get into the box. Looking for that forward pass instead of going backwards or sideways. Wether it's down to Jay or hust coincidence, who cares, long may it continue.

Gutted we didn’t beat them today, we owe them a few losses for all the cheating they’ve done in the past, fans were in great voice to that effect too!

All the back four were brilliant today.
Lowton was magnificent and I am so pleased for the lad. I have been his biggest critic, but this last 3 games he really has stepped up to the plate

Re: The turnaround in our defence
We were still ripped wide open early doors like we were against Leicester.
Arsenal should have been 2 up before we mustered a shot.

Re: The turnaround in our defence
Agree there but we have a clean sheet today because Arsenal missed at least two chances on another day they would have put away. Using the same assumptions about us would have meant they got a 5-2 thumping as we put them on their Arse(nal)sTop Claret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 7:47 pmAll the back four were brilliant today.

Mee and Tarks are getting back to being as good as the year we finished 7th. At the time they were as good a pair of central defenders as you could find

We were really good after a dodgy start. A great watch.
The two fullbacks were playing like attacking wing backs at times.

Nah, it wasn't perfect was it? Can you let me know when everything falls into place so we can fully enjoy and appreciate a very good team performance.Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 7:52 pmWe were still ripped wide open early doors like we were against Leicester.

Roy Walker taught me to, say what you see.
