Jay Rod

Post by Granny WeatherWax » Sun Feb 02, 2020 7:36 pm

100% a better footballing side when he is in the team.

Gets us up the pitch, links midfield and defence, creates space and opportunities for others and works so hard for the team.

He’s light years away from Barnes who now should rightly struggle to get back in the team.

I think he apologised to each team member at the end of the game for missing that chance. Shows he cares

Fantastic again today. A really tidy player who works very hard. Would be nice if he started hitting the onion bag regularly.

Had that gone in, he'd have won MoM.
He'd a great game though. He's starting to become more influential in our games too.

He is showing me exactly why I wanted him signed now that he is playing the nr10 role. Ever since he came on at half time against Villa we have been a different team.

That is how I see him too. A decent run of games is now showing why he has had the success he has had and were it not for his cruciate injury whilst at Southampton he would have played more for England

He can be afforded today’s miss after the absolute screamer he scored at Old Trafford.

Agreed Buxton,he looked heartbroken when the whistle went and when they interviwed him..He had a great game though and Barnsey will have to wait for his place back.. 8-)

I said on a different post the chance was not as easy as it looked. On a different note the shot in the first half from Woods lay off was superb.Had it gone in it would have been some goal. He looks a great team player and I sense playing well for Burnley means the world to him

I agree with you, but I just don't think there's any need for the last line in your original post.

Rodders was great again, let's just congratulate him.

It shouldn't really be categorized as a 'miss'. He connected well and it was on target, hitting the underside of the bar and bouncing up off of the inside of the line. Just unfortunate. It was probably more over the line than Geoff Hurst's World Cup 'goal'.

I really can't get all that worked up on his performance today. If Wood had have been in his goal scoring positions, we would have won comfortably.

On the other hand since he has started the last 3 games our performance has picked up know ends. He is a good footballer and he has a big influence on our style of play

Correct. Been saying this since he signed.

Still a role for Barnes, mind. He's needed to keep Wood and Jay on their toes, seeing as no one else is likely to be.

Certainly improved tons since his first starts. More effort and more skill. Probably getting fully has helped a lot. Watching replay I think he shinned it a bit which sent it upwards. But it was great watching us outplay them for long stretches of the game.Lets not forget 2 clean sheets in last 2 games.

Another MOM performance for me. Some of JR’s touches, vision, movement and all round link play were first class. Certainly gives us more options in the final third and Jayrod clearly loved the big games.

Some classic Burnley numpty mentality being displayed in some posts on this thread. Why can't people just be pleased that Jay is showing decent form rather than feeling the need to have a pop at Barnes who has been brilliant for us in the last couple of years. I just don't understand the mentality. It's been the same with Lowton. Too quick to jump on the backs of people who have done great things for us as soon as they hit a bad patch or get injured.

Not according to this we haven'thttps://www.premierleague.com/stats/top ... ean_sheet

If those stats are accurate the Watford number :o me,i can only guess they had some 0-0 games earlier in the season when they were struggling for goals, even so it's credit to the back 4 that we're rediscovering our backbone again, but the whole team have defended as a unit much better since the Chelsea game, and this has given us the platform to pick up the points we have.

Our upturn on form has coincided with him playing more. It could be coincidence or the fact we have moved away from the long ball game.

It’s only been 3 games but he seems to offer more on the deck than Barnes. He is a better all round player than Barnes but Barnes can never be written off as a bench man for us. That’s happened a few times before and Barnes has thought back into the starting 11.

Barnes’s form has dipped since the start of the season. Th competition for his spot will spur him on as it has in the past. It’s good to have competition for the shirt.

I hope JayRod keeps up this form because when he gets to his best he is a real player

Dyche knows what he's doing. Wood and Barnes were scoring well so he took his time with Rodders. Will be good when Barnes is back for cover. Perm any two from three. Mc Neil has settled back down well - don't underestimate the midfield/defensive work he does but Jay seems to be part of the formula for him too.

Good post Buxton. It's at the ends of the pitch that these tiny margins matter most which has a distorting effect on them.

Take, for example, the Brentford 'keeper the other day - let wayward throughball go through his legs the other day. Far, far worse than Jay's attempt at goal. But his side won 5-1 so it didn't really matter.

If we'd managed to have a bit of luck or if one of our other half-chances had nestled in the back of the net we'd have won it 1-0 and the only comment we'd be making about Jay's chance would be, "And it could have been two!"

Jay's playing very well at the moment and he had a good game (on the whole) against Arsenal.

He had two chances when it was easier to score than miss yesterday. The one that hit the crossbar is most obvious, but also about 6-7 minutes into the second half he headed an inswinging free kick past the near post when just a gentle flick would surely have carried it beyond Leno. Easy from the Longside and all that, but he'll have expected to score on both occasions.

But I totally agree with the comments about what he's adding to our game, and the resulting quality of our football. Barnes has been brilliant for us and his time will come again, but particularly alongside Wood - who is not a particularly silky player either - he really forces us to be overly direct. Jay won't bash defenders around or unsettle them like Ash, but his one touch play, and his willingness to receive the ball on the half turn and drive towards goal, has added a dimension to our play that we haven't seen since Ings left.

There's still a bit of work to be done - his relationship with Wood is developing nicely, but this two week break will allow them really work on that further, and the same goes for his relationship with McNeil - but the prospect of those understandings becoming more instinctive, and adding an extra fluency and sharpness to our football, is really quite exciting.

Little doubt that before Christmas, we'd have been playing better football had we made the chance earlier, but Dyche does like to back his players and that uncomplicated approach to the pecking order is one of the reasons he's regarded as such a good man-manager - he doesn't make things complicated for himself by imposing too many decisions that need justifying if he can avoid it.
