Great performance

Post by Hbclaret007 » Mon Feb 03, 2020 11:48 am

Really great performance from the clarets yesterday. Best of the season so far for me.
Very unlucky not to win it - well done to SD and the team.

And it annoys me that this board is very quiet when we do well - I suppose it shuts the moaners up

They will all be sat in the dark under the stairs contemplating our next defeat, your right though it does go awfully quiet when we do well.

I also thought it was a great performance...but the purists and media liken it to being a yawn fest...I just don't get it sometime. Pope and Burnley's clean sheet achievement count for exactly nothing but in reality it counts for everything in football preventing the opposition scoring....they just don't like it!

Yes it was a great effort by the lads. We decided in our house anyway that we won the game by a half goal. :D

I can't believe all the negativity both about the game in general and our performance/team ethic
in particular, in the press and on the box.

It was a fabulous performance from us and was simply lacking a goal that our superb
performance richly deserved.

I enjoyed the game enormously, marred only by the antics of the opposition which, admittedly,
didn't come as any surprise.

It just shows that we can play decent football on the ground when we want and when the right
players are on the field.

Long may it continue.

To be honest bud I thought the board has been quite fullsome in it's praise for yesterday. Considering we didn't actually win (although as you say we deserved to) the main comments on here have been many and good I think.

I may have been reading the wrong threads but I can't recall a criticism of the team yesterday.

Steve mate, it's not been quiet. I seem to have spent half the morning reading favourable posts on here. I may have missed them but I don't recall one moan as such.

Or maybe I haven't been looking for them... ;) ;) ;)

I listened to the second half commentary on Radio 5 and the BBC team Alan Green and Michael Brown were enthusing about the match throughout saying it was a good end to end game with plenty of good football from both sides. Brown, in particular, praised the Clarets saying they were often labelled incorrectly as solely a long ball team when in fact they were capable of playing good passing style offensive football.

Perosnally, good football for me is scoring more goals than the other team. Watching the highlights later it did not look a "great" performance in terms of finishing or even working the keeper from numerous gilt-edged opportunities. Plus Arsenal, and Aubemayang in particular seemed to miss three sitters that he normally buries. I hate to quibble as there is enough already on this board, but maybe good performance rather than great might be a better description?

There has been no criticism by me about this board on here.

I referred to the press and TV (the box).

Sorry bud...mis-read you. Haven't really taken too much notice of the media (stopped bothering ages ago). To be fair though MotD were oddly nice to us, the conclusion being we should have won.

One of the Sky commentators also complimentary when explaining the “anti-football “ chant said “if this is ant-football give me more”.

A satisfying performance from us. All the issues we appeared to have after the 'no show' a month ago against Villa seem to have been addressed with hard work on the training field. I do hope we can get Ashley Barnes back in the fray soon, though. Effectively down to just two forwards currently which is not healthy at all.

Very positive and uplifting performance and back to doing what Burnley do best in so many ways. (And arsenal, like so many big boys before them, really didn't like it!!) The only shame was that (as I mentioned on the ratings thread) we normally make 3 good chances a game and score 2. Yesterday we made about 12 or 13 and scored none, which really isn't like us. I'm loving how "gracious" Arsenal and their fans are being about the match! Just imagine if we'd won!!!

It was a fantastic game, I'm still smiling today.

Even if Arsenal had nicked it with a 94th minute with a handball/ offside I would still be happy today. We did more than enough to win it, but the key is the mentality and the passion/ confidence the players have had since the Leciester game.

It's a telling sign when you can't pick a stand out MOM or someone who played below par.

Looks like we got our Burnley back # UTC

Not all the media. The Guardian bloke yes. I ust wonder if he was at the match. It was a dreadful report.

It was a good performance from all the team in the end after another slow start when they had chances.

It was indeed a fantastic performance, what's changed some ask. We keep getting these defining moments, Ben Mee moving to CH in Championship winning season, Vokes and Ings striking that great partnership the promotion before, Tom coming back after the Everton boxing day match, and now Ash with the Hernia, and Jay looking more like the player we know not the one coming off the bench for the last 10 mins. Sometimes you just get lucky, long may it continue.
